Unvaccinated players will be BANNED from playing in the Australian Open

You wonder why they just don't get vaccinated.

I am vaxxed. I’m alive, I’m well. Talk about drama queens.

I am vaxxed, Im alive. Im grateful that massive vaccination rates allows life to go on as normal as it can. My whole family is vaxxed....

.....Also, my 21 yo son was in hospital with blood clots due to the vaccine and has undergone a month of tests etc, with significant pain and discomfort.

More than one thing can be true at once.

Hope your son is getting better mate.
I have 5kids in their 20s and been lucky so far along with rest of family. Although only claimed as small percent of adverse amount, a lot will be affected with the numbers being administered. Not everyone is built the same and unfortunately vaccines are not one size fit all.

Sorry to hear that; I hope he's on the mend soon.

"They also do antibodies testing which has proved that majority of the population has antibodies … yet it’s banned here. Wonder why ? In Delhi 97% people were positive for antibodies.
India is only 24% vaccinated."

Looks like Europe is getting smashed as they going into their winter.

WOW! I heard Germany had (Ia couple of days ago) 65,000 new cases of COVID in one day.
Unbelievable!

And overseas footballers are in the COVID news:

Kyrie Irving!

Pretty crazy watching NBA and NFL and players like Big Ben, khris Middleton are out with COVID like they got the flu and back playing again in 2 weeks

This is interesting and gives to me a more rounded perspective. Vaccines and other precautions are required. Vaccines reduce hospitalizations and death but they don't fully prevent transmission.

Every country has to constantly reassess their approach. You can have a balance of openness plus managing the disease.

No country can simply vaccinate their way out. It's vaccines plus other measures.

There is no sense giving boosters to healthy adults or vaccinate children if health workers or older people are still waiting their first dose across the world.

There are 6 times more boosters administered globally than primary doses to low income countries. This is a scandal that must stop now.

A couple of points on this one:-

1. Are antibodies testing banned in Australia ? If so can you provide the link. My understanding is that antibodies testing is approved.
2. You can develop antibodies from being vaccinated or from contracting the disease. Delta is highly contagious and to me it's pretty obvious that you are going to get COVID or get vaccinated or maybe both. I'm not surprised that there are high antibodies amongst any population in the world.
3. Do you have the link to the antibodies testing in India ?
4. I don't think this changes the picture at all. Do you see any change in our current understanding of COVID in relation to this issue.
5. I think it was @fibrodreaming who mentioned how the narrative didn't fit Florida a while back. I looked at the data and to me it fitted the narrative perfectly. The science or the narrative to me is simply the facts and the data. There is no story other than reality.
6. Twitter links are not scientific. It's a really poor way to get your information.

Our workplace has a draft policy just released requiring all employees to be double vaccinated by 10 January 2022. If adopted, this will be a condition of employment. There are exemptions for medical conditions etc.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2021/11/19/covid-news-coronavirus-lockdown-europe-cases-deaths-booster/

I know this isn't scientific but it's more a policy approach.

Austria will become the first European country to go back into full lockdown and the first to make Covid vaccination compulsory.

My feelings are that people that are anti-science in relation to COVID don't understand how bad COVID can be and how even our currently really good situation can turn.

My personal opinion is that the best chance we have to remain open on-going is via everyone getting vaccinated and getting booster shots. COVID could come roaring back especially when our immunity wanes from the initial vaccine.

I suppose this has always been the case but the anti-science/pro-freedom supporters really appear to be on the wrong page in relation to COVID.

If the mortality rates of COVID were way higher, a lot more people will be getting vaccinated.

Anti-science/pro-freedom 😂😂😂
Okay Earl….
The SCIENCE says the mortality rate of covid is not even close to justifiable of mandatory vaccination.
There it is!
It’s simple, 99.7% of people are not at serious risk from the virus, if you’re old, sick or unhealthy do what you gotta do to put yourself at ease, but let’s just stop with the crap that healthy people AND CHILDREN need to get jabbed to protect themselves and others.
THE SCIENCE DOESN’T SUPPORT THAT.
The SCIENCE to justify mandating a vaccine for community benefit, or not, is a simple mathematical equation:
The transmissibility of Delta is a factor of between 6-8, meaning every positive case will likely transmit to 6-8 more people.
The current MRNA vaccines have an effectiveness in reducing transmission by approx 20% (claimed).
That means instead of transmitting to 6 people you will transmit to say 5.
When you apply exponential growth to that equation it looks no different to an unvaccinated population and is NOWHERE NEAR to mathematically justifiable, which IS the SCIENCE relevant to ETHICALLY mandating a population of healthy people who aren’t at risk of serious illness to take any vaccine and particularly those produced from completely new technology never been used on humans before and therefore have NO KNOWN MID TO LONG TERM HEALTH EFFECT DATA.
That’s the science on the issue of mandating.
It’s SCIENTIFICALLY flawed and unsupportable in terms of how transmissible the virus is factored by how in affective the CURRENT vaccines are at breaking that transmission.
That’s why we have mass outbreaks in highly vaccinated populations. PERIOD.
The SCIENCE around their effectiveness of reducing symptoms of the virus is a different issue and one which is a risk v reward decision equatable to individual health circumstances.
Let me be clear Earl, we Anti -Science, Anti - Vax, I’ll - Informed, Conspiracy Theorist, Tin hat wearing, Rabbit hole enthusiast, and whatever other ignorant, derogatory label you and your like aim to stigmatise us with really have no issue with you making your personal choices and we certainly don’t feel the need to force you to not vaccinate yourself, or ridicule you for doing so. I hope it works out for you, just so you know.
Though i do find it funny how the clearly more enlightened, educated, informed, intelligent, emotionally mature members of society, such as your good self Earl, also seem to be the more narcissistic, bigoted and spiteful among us.
Albeit from the relative anonymity of a keyboard of course 😉

it's still got me buggered why you would join footy forum for the covid thread..

I'll just state I don't know what to label your belief systems. If you can come up with a better name I'll use it. I have no interest at all in getting in an argument about who you are personally. I think you are being way overly sensitive.

I'll play the ball though and not the man.

The science is reality. It's just the data. You have some political arguments against mandatory vaccinations which is fine but some of your figures are really off. I don't have a political opinion on mandatory vaccinations. I don't believe in forcing people to do anything but the pandemic is causing huge problems across the world. Your 99.7% figure is a figure that is in my opinion absurd.

When it comes to children I also think the science isn't clear cut in relation to vaccines.

The vaccines doesn't reduce transmission by only 20%. It's not that simple. You've cherry picked another fact.

There is no mid to long term health data but my understanding is that no vaccine has had a negative side effect on anyone post an 8 week time frame from receiving a vaccine. The risk is extremely low.

I agree that there is a risk reward benefit to individuals to get vaccinated which can differ from the public health requirements. There is a risk to yourself but there is also a risk to society. If enough people are vaccinated you can control the outbreak and therefore manage the impact to the health system. A good example of the public benefit is how we've managed the Delta outbreak in Australia specifically NSW and VIC.

Give me a better label and I'll use it. No problems at all.
