Just watching the Bellemy interview..

He stated that after the baby Broncos beat the Wests Tigers at Cambo as he was coaching as Bennett was away on Origin duty he was offered the job to Coach us..which is well known…

What i didm't know ....The reason given was his wife didn't want to leave Queensland as the kids were in school....He then said he should probably have taken the job as he didn't know if another job would come...a month later Ribot contacted him and the rest is history...He took the job leaving his family in Queensland for a time....

Bloody Women.... :smiling_imp:

I was already aware that his missus was largely responsible for torpedoing the deal, Scott Prince's wife may also have been responsible for him not re-signing. Gary Schofield back in the day same story…

For Bellamy there was a rumour at the time which may or may not be true as to why his wife didn't want him to take a job in Sydney. I won't repeat it as I have no idea if there is even a grain of true in it and it was a fairly unsavoury one.

Imagine if he accepted the job at the Tigers

What they might have achieved!!!!!

He may have become alarmed when he was told he only had the salary cap to spend.

The Storm are the benchmark for team culture in Australian sport and while Bellamy may not have been gifted the all-time great players he has had at Melbourne, he would have begun something of a cultural revolution here.

Thinking about our recent years of public turmoil coupled with poor management and an unsatisfactory level of play has had me wondering "what if" all night.

Ah well, time for an ironic reality check and our other thread where JT has demoted Robbie. 😱pen_mouth:

Mmmmmmm, depends which way someone wants to look at it though.
Team culture as in consistency of performance, yes.
Club culture, there will always be a stain on that club, the past just doesn't miraculously wash away.
The cold truth is that Melbourne have won 1 premiership since 2000, WT have the same record.

I can imagine him reviewing the Tigers situation:
"Wait, you have 1 set of books and 3 home grounds? Nah, it should be the other way around. I'll pass thanks"

Arguably the most consistent club in the NRL FTB , even after the salary cap issues

People can mention the Dogs ,Roosters ,Broncs etc but I'd take the Storm playing for my life to make a Top 8 any day of the week

Yes he is a good coach.
Don't like the introduction of following which have been a blight on the game:
wrestling in play ball area, crusher tackle, grapple tackle just to name three.

If only the offers had of come the other way around…..

What I also liked is when he said he didn't understand origin in his first crack as coach…
And he'd do it differently if he had another go at it...

Bring him back for the blues!!

The cold truth is that Melbourne have won 1 premiership since 2000, WT have the same record.

In the 13 seasons since 2002 Melbourne have finished in the top 8 12 times (missed only once in '10 - their penalty year) and have never finished below 6th place.
They have finished in the top 4 8 times and were minor premiers 4 times.
They have been in 5 Grand Finals and won 3.

Yes, there are asterisks next to a few of those seasons but my opinion re their salary cap debacle is that Melbourne were just dumb enough to get caught (like Parra). Brisbane and Roosters are among a host of clubs that "miraculously" retain stars while signing up more of them every year, yet we aren't talking about them as the benchmark. Regardless, as we have seen with Parramatta, cooking the books doesn't not guarantee success. Just because the Storm were caught cheating doesn't discount the consistent juggernaut that is the Storm. Stain or no stain, to maintain that level of success over the years is simply incredible.

If you saw the interview or have looked into the Storm infrastructure then you would understand the kind of culture that Bellamy and co have instilled in Melbourne - it is second to none. Bellamy believes in hard work and makes his players believe in themselves and the system. It's a system that works now as a self-perpetuating culture of winning and it is the envy of every club.

Or not..
I credit Sheens for 2005

The way we have been going recently i doubt we'd ever get another Finals.
Coaches<club>Team dont get together and cause rift..
