Ipswich or the Sunshine Coast would be a success , doesn't necessarily need to a 2nd Brisbane side

Sunshine Coast would be a disaster, and the population out Ipswich way is still 10 years off sustaining an NRL Franchise.

It must be within the Brisbane Footprint of 2M people.

Who do you suppose will support any new Brisbane side ??

Any anti Broncos supporters would of got picked up by the Titans

Ipswich and Townsville's populations are almost identical Watto ( about 8000 more in Townsville )

NO… You deduct the number of blokes who play football out there as they only have one nut!

Crushers went well…

So did Adelaide, Perth, Nth Qld at first, Gold Coast Mk III…

The game wasn't ready for such an aggressive expansion.

That is my point all along when this talk of expansion comes up….it takes a hell of a lot to get a franchise up and running...it's easy to say Oh put a second team in Brisbane or lets go to Perth Nz South Island etc.....History has shown Rugby League can not sustain more than 16 teams in the Competition and remain on an even competitive playing field....Player strength would be depleted in an already have and have not competition as it stands...

That leaves only Culling of existing teams ....for what purpose that would serve I don't know....apart from disenfranchising even more of the Rugby League supporter base.....It would not enhance the TV deal as you would have the same number of games...transplanting a team or 2 would not work either as those areas being Perth NZ south or Queensland would want their own team with there own identity for even the slight chance it would work....

Cowboys pull from a larger geographical area… No one will travel to Ipswich from outside the Ipswich sphere.

Toowoomba would be better suited for a team before Ipswich!

Do you honestly think NRL players would like to live in Toowoomba Watto ??

At least they can live in Brisbane and still travel to Ipswich

Ipswich is the best option in Qld long term ,Toowoomba is where Ipswich was 30 years ago , that's where all the two heads moved to because Ipswich became too expensive to live in on benefits

One thing to go from 16 to 17 teams in a tested market instead of 16 to 20 in largely untested markets.

Dilution of talent is due to a poor second grade structure and poor investment in juniors and bush footy. Now that they have the coin the NRL should flood the CRL with funds.

of course not… But they wouldnt want to live in Ipswich either!

The problem your not seeing through your delusional love affair of once being Alfies Mistress, is Toowoomba will pull from a larger geographical area as far as St George/Roma/Wondoan, while Ipswich will attract no one outside its fence line.

They still have a fence at the correctional facilities/Ipswich keeping them in dont they?

No Wacol and Wolston Park (Brisbane's version of Callan Park ) are in Brisbane

I would have thought that Central QLD might be the go, few mining dollars around there at the moment, 2nd Brisbane always seems a good idea, but who would support them??

The NRL would be loads better off if they could make Perth work, they would open another TV market, it is great for Time zones, you can play games live at 9.30 from there. There is a large enough East coast ex pat community to make it happen and it was moderately successful first time round.

The Force are commercially successful in the Rugby.

Outside Ipswich , a PNG side and a 2nd NZ side are the only serious options

If we were to test a market Rugby League wise , I wouldn't mind seeing how Darwin went with its first truly National sports team

The Western Reds were simply culled, and didnt have any debts.

If we persevered for a further 15 years, it could of been as big as the Broncos. They have always had a good local competition, and if we didnt abandon them, it could be huge by now.

The Western Force had 16k Members for their First Season, with Crowds above a 24k.

Perth was always more viable than Melbourne, but that was Ruperts doing.

I live in Rockhampton which has a population of 80,000\. The next biggest city south is Happy's home town of Gladstone which is probably a tad bigger around 100,000? But that's 120 klms away. Going north is Mackay which is about 350 klms away. West is Emerald with about 15,000 people but its about 300 klms away.

I can't see a roving supporter base here, like the Cowboys have got. I just can't see a CQ team working. Now about major sponsors? Who?

Perth is the next target area for mine. We have to move away from an entire east coast mentality
