Don't read too much into this series, England aren't exactly putting their best ODI side on the park every game, although it's nice to win a few games.

I agree although we havnt had our best side out either, no Ponting, Hussey, Hauritz or Harris, even Johnson despite his terrible form.

Just watching the Big Bash game NSW v Qld. How good does Patrick Cummins look? 17 years old, 3/14 from 3 overs so far and 6 of those runs were from a top edge over 1st slip. Bowling around 140+km/h for the most part.

Dont think I'm reading too much into it MM, We are the top rated side for ODI's and haven't dropped a game yet despite Ponting and Hussey being unavailable.

England have still been turning out Straus, Trott, Pietersen, Bell and Prior who all gave us batting lessons throughout the ashes.

We just seem to excell at this particular form of the game

Even then, a lot of our wins have been on the back of one or two great performances, and a whole lot of average ones. I still don't see us knocking over India in the WC.

The World Cup will be interesting. While we have been dominating the ODI's for a while, the injuries to Ponting and Hussey will have an impact of sorts. Hussey I don't think will be fit. A tendon of the bone and playing 5 weeks later doesn't sound right.

Hopefully our ODI form continues like the last time after we lost the Ashes.
When that happened we beat England 6-1, won the champions trophy in SA, then travelled to India and came from behind despite injuries to win 4-2.

Strange quirk I have just noticed, of late the side that has lost the Ashes has won the following/preceding ODI series:

2005: Ashes: 2-1 England, ODIs 2-1 Aus
2006/07 Ashes: 5-0 Aus, ODIs: 2-0 England
2009 Ashes: 2-1 England, ODIs: 6-1 Aus
2010/11 Ashes: 3-1 England, ODIs 4-1 Aus

This. It's not as though England have been fielding a second string side. We're missing players through injury at the moment as well. We're simply playing the shorter game better.

Last night was good, while Clarke was the only one who went to kick on with it, the whole team made double figures minus Lee and Bollinger and we still posted a defendable score of 249.

What worries me was last night our inability to finish off Finn and Anderson. Anderson was throwing the bat at everything and Lee/Johnson were more concerned about bowling short to find the mistimed shot instead of putting every ball at the base of middle and off.

I think the main difference in regards to the names that Stryker mentioned is that Strauss, Trott, Bell and Prior are Test match specialists really. They have reasonable records at ODI level, but their averages are only mid range in the 30s with a moderate strike rate in the mid 70s. Trott has a good ODI average but he is only early in his ODI career and he's not the type of number 3 that teams will fear, in fact I dont think any of those guys have a fear factor about them in ODIs compared to Tests.

I had the same thoughts with our bowling, sometimes when tailenders have a slog with nothing to lose and not much pressure on, they can score quick runs. I always thought we would win eventually but I think that was based on the fact they had to score at 10 runs an over. If they had to score at 6 an over then I would of been nervous.

We saw earlier in the Summer what can happen when the tail has nothing to lose with a comfortable required run rate with Sri Lanka, their tail slogged but with the required run rate under control they could afford the odd dot ball here and there which we saw towards the end of their chase.

Fair points Jazza but can I ask where do you stand?

I think we are looking pretty good going into the world cup. I cant remember the last time we sent a team to it not chock a block full of stars…yet I'm reasonably confident.

By the way guys…I sincerely believe Austaralia took the foot off on purpose the other night to make a game of it and raise more dosh.

We had them fubared pretty early on.....

Aussies making a fist of it - 2/145 off 21.3 overs chasing 334 for the win.

May I be the first to air my disgust at two suspect acts by England. Firstly, Johnathon Trott asks for a runne to run the rest of his innings out only to run a length to make a good catch and now is bowling, secondly Matt Prior dislodging the bail off a Yardy delivery to claim Johnson had been bowled.

You are both a disgrace to the game and I hope next time Trott deliberately runs in the path of the ball to avert a run out I hope it is aimed at his head!

3 for 171 after 25.1 overs. we can win this if we stop losing wickets

The Johnson gamble really paid off. Him and Fergy have put us in a good position, now we just need the others to finish it off. Why is Ferguson not in the World Cup Squad?

God knows about Ferguson. Has an average of 40 odd which is ideal for a number 5 or 6.

If he didn't have a bung leg he would have put a few more on. Silly call got him out but smart thinking when he motioned to Johnson and told him to keep at it. A team attitude right there.

Johnson out stumped. They have to keep at it anyway because we still need to get 7 runs an over to win.

wow! great win by aust there in the last over!

Johnny Hastings and I used to play in juniors together, and let me tell you, he still knows how to belt a
ball and save a game!

Both of those things ticked me off as well bogan…almost cheatery by Trott great to see him drop the catch that probably would have won them the game - karma at it's finest right there.

What an unbelievable chase by the Aussies! Second time this series they've run down a mamoth total. They are looking really good.
I'll reiterate that England haven't played that bad yet we lead the series 5-1 bring on the world cup.

Clarke finding some much needed form before the world cup. Everything is starting to fall into place. Hopefully Huss can make it back at some point during the tournament, and Punter can return in some good form. If we have those 3 firing along with Haddin and Watson, with our bowlers performing well, we will be very hard to stop. England have slipped off my radar for world cup contenders, the only teams that are going to trouble us are Sri Lanka, India and South Africa (although the Saffas will choke so hopefully we get them in the final).
