I always had a plan for the Sheffield Shield.
Wednesday to Saturday max 90 overs per innings, under lights.
A combination of Test and one dayer.
Flat $20 entry fee per game or 4 days for $50 and brewery subsidised beer/ food at really good prices.
Any merit or a waste of time ?

Waste of time unfortunately. The only domestic cricket anyone cares about is BBL.

And tie in TV support for exposure, add incentives for attendance, and revive a dying cricket form to its former glory.
What's not to love?

Terrible idea. Sheffiled Shield is first class cricket. It is the nursery for Test Cricketers. If you give up on first class cricket, just give the game away

Here at the SCG perfect seats directly behind the bowlers arm
Thank you Sean Abbott you rescued us still maybe not enough but well done
Dont understand Jake F M first over 2 windy whooshes a four a six and out
Did anyone tell him its a 50 over game not big bash

Great view of the play yesterday .Thought we were done for at 5-90 never dreamed we'd win by 83 runs .4 of the team had their first ever bat for Australia in 50 over cricket Sean Abbott and runaway MOM 69 runs 3 wickets 2 catches .Weve got a bit of depth with our talent
Sounds like you had a great day ✅

Green is such a frustrating player to me but fair dinkum…his catching is elite and not just in contemporary terms…

Former glory? When has Shield cricket ever attracted crowds?
Yep. Last time I attended a Shield game (which was the final and a weekend day) there was a modest crowd at Allan Border field, maybe a thousand people. This match included most of the Australian test bowling line-up (NSW) and a number of past and present test batsmen.

The day I attended at St Kilda oval, also the final (this was around 2008?) there was only a couple of hundred people there, tops. Nothing to do with BBL as it was 3-4 years before it existed.

My daughter managed to get seats exactly in line stump to stump
Thought our openers played big bash style and not with much success
Smith was scratchy ,Marnus was ok for a while as was Green .
Wicket was holding which was why Short got out
The great thing is our future looks good because we unearth a star in Bartlett in game 1 and don't play him in game 2 and Abbott comes and has a blinder
Josh of course with 3 wickets helped
In fairness the Windies looked a little outclassed

I think South Africa sending a second string test team to NZ is a disgrace because all their top players prefer to make more money playing " hit and giggle " franchise cricket .
The ICC has to redistribute some money to places where test cricket is under threat
Thank you Shamar Joseph for giving test cricket in the Caribbean a much needed shot in the arm
