Cricket Season Thread

He’s 35 years old. I doubt his best days are ahead of him. Not sure why Usman is not under pressure either given his age. 38 in another week. He’s not going to get any better either.
TIme will tell. I think he has enough class and talent to eek out another 18 months and it wouldnt surprise me if he hit a couple of scores this series.

For him and Usman, equation would change if there was anyone beating the door down in Shield, but reality is there isnt.

Same guy saves our bacon every time
Travis Head .121 not !
Marsh walks caught behind when his bat missed the ball Dumb !

8-322 lead 152
Night session to come
Travis Head fantastic !
Marnus found a little form which is good
McSweeney ,I applaud for surviving 33 overs last night but don't think he's an opener ,Not a lot of shots ,Be great at No 4 replacing Smith
Marsh walked when he wasn't out ?
Starc one of our best batters 56 runs in series so far ave 28
However the rest all failed
My radical moves for Brisbane Konstas to 1
McSweeney to 4
Inglis to 7
Just joking it won't happen but would be nice to have the whole team in form !

All out 337 !
Before we get too carried away
Day 2 we lost 9-251 which you take out Heads 140 ,Marnus put on and extra 43 today plus a bunch of extras leaves about 60 runs for the other 7 batters where Cummins and Starc contributed about half of that !
Point is - a fair amount of our batting line up is still fragile !
Cant expect Travis to bail us out every time .
Time to bite the bullet in a couple of spots !!

Is it just me or are we a bit cumbersome in the field Smith ,Marsh slow Carey fumbling a bit .We just not as sharp as we used to be
Field placing .Pant nicks Starc direct to third slip only no third slip
This guy Pant you must get early as he's a game changer .
McSweeney ,Labuschagne good
Starc finally bowls the ball of the match Gills middle stump cartwheeling

Smith and Lyon are on borrowed time. The twelfth man has contributed more to this series (and the last couple) than both of them combined. Marsh had one good innings against England and is now a fixture for being a good bloke in the sheds where he spends all of his time when Australia are batting. Our bowlers are good for about ten overs but then endurance becomes a major factor. Average age of this team is 33.29 years. This is only going to get worse unless a lot of retirements happen very soon.

While this test going on 3 shield red ball games going on !
Standouts first 2 days
Sam Konstas 80 not out
Henry Hunt another ton
Jason Sangaa 151
Xavier Bartlett a five for 5-32
Just some waiting in the wings for a baggy green especially Konstas

Marsh’s average is high than most of our top order over the last year or so

Because there's nobody else. He may make it through this series and maybe Sri Lanka Because he's a decent player of spin but by then Konstas will be ready. He's closing in on another shield ton.

Good to see Jason "sausage" Sangaa getting runs. Showed talent as a youngster but didn't take his chances. Dropped by NSW last season. I'm surprised Hunt only averages 33ish. I think that's his 10th or 11th first class century.

Fergus O'Neil is the real emerging guy in the shield though. Keeps picking up wickets. Can swing the bat too.

@Stevec
I was watching replay of NSW game and Konstas looks to have a nice technique, almost old school compared to the likes of smith and his shadow.
Konstas looked calm and relaxed, didn’t fidget and touch his head and both nuts before tacking the crease. Had small pre-cursor movements and played straight mostly on the front foot, (but due to bowling full). I like the way he runs out to the middle, maybe the bowlers should try that in between deliveries.
I’m picking him next game, well I probably would have picked him before McS.
In leagues we say if ya good enough you’re old enough. In cricket we want blokes to spend the first half their career in reggies in case they get a few outs and it affects them long term. I say pick them when they are in form, if they get dropped and have to make it back that builds resilience. 🤷‍♂️
