The 'lankans did us again…Our bowling at the death leaves a lot to be desired at the moment. Too many wayward deliveries straying onto leg.

I'd agree Stryker, although our ability to break partnerships is probably more significant.

Had them on the ropes early with 2/fa and we screwed ourselves.

Thoroughly enjoy Jaya and Mathews having a go.

I think our biggest problem is our first twenty overs batting We aren't taking advantage of the 2 fielders outside the ring in the first 15 overs and losing wickets early

Why wasn't Watson given a run Clarke stated the he is 100% now

Good death bowlers are rare as chooks teeth these days. We haven't had a great one since Bracken retired.

Very true. Even McGrath was a great death bowler so we basically lost our two best death bowlers at the same time. Someone like Lee is always seen as great death bowler but really I have never been a fan of his death bowling. To me he is just a little too wayward and with his pace, all it takes is one wayward delivery to make a good over very bad.

I think Doherty needs to be used more at the death, his flat quick deliveries with his angle make it very awkward for the batsman. I think if Hilfhenhaus keeps working on his variations, he could be the other death bowler we could rely on.

Outside the squad, maybe we could bring in some bowlers who can be specialists at the death like Ian Harvey used to be. I saw Chris Swan from QLD bowl some great yorkers in the Ryobi cup, or maybe Ben Laughlin could be another with his off cutters and yorkers.

Mark Cosgrove would have to be the fattest player to play 1st class cricket for some time. He looks like he has a sheep shoved up his shirt…

I noticed that today as well, looks like Tassie are a little more relaxed then SA when it comes to his weight issues.

Really Tassie should of won tonight, gotta feel sorry for young Faulkner who came in with 4 off 4 needed with Ponting at the other end. The kid would of been so nervous not just because of the match situation but also because of who was at the other end. Hopefully he doesnt lose all confidence because he is a top young bowling all rounder who bowls good left arm pace and is on track to add to his solitary 20/20 for Australia within the next year or two.

He is certainly in the Greg Ritchie ,Merv Hughes stakes

Not that I can talk at the moment

It's really a shame because I read not long ago that his weight is the main issue holding him back from national selectors. His form has been patchy this year but he has been great with the bat over the previous two years and if he was more agile in the field, he certainly would of been at least very close to playing some ODIs.

See today that Rahul Dravid has retired from international cricket Very good batsman very underrated 13000 Test Runs and over 10000 ODI runs

Will this start a procession of Indians retiring ??

I think Tendulkar will go after he gets his 100th century, and they won't have the nerve to drop him before then. Laxman and Sehwag will both go within 12 months as well.

Sad to see Dravid go, not the prettiest player ever, but still one of the all time greats and a great bloke. He's one of the few Indian players I like.

No doubt someone at Indian Cricket HQ is desperately scheduling a ODI series against Kenya to get Sachin over the line. Or maybe Bangladesh if they're playing in that Asian Cup coming up.

Looks like people are trying to rob Qld of a home final

How does it work when we win 6 games and Tasmania only win 5 games and they get the Home Final

Looks like they are pandering to Ricky Ponting as he has never won a Sheffield Shield final

Seriously though , does anyone know what format is used to decide which team gets to host the final when two teams finish equal on points ??

Who are these people Happy? I thought I read that Qld would host because they've won more games than Tassie? Victoria and WA are a bit stiff to miss out altogether…

C'mon Yoss everyone know's who "those people are" Sorry mate was trying to be a touch xenophobic with the Qld mindset

NINEMSN page said that Tassie were hosting and on their table they have Tasmania on top of the table with Qld second and Vic third

You've gotta watch those Tasmanians Happy. They'll try anything. The Aus cricket official page has Qld on top so you can go and watch Ed Cowan and Ricky bat for the opening day and a half.

Should be a good final though. I just hope there is a result and it's not one of those games where the home team makes 850…

Well to start with they have way too many fingers to start with
Yoss my understanding that if you are correct that the groundsman are mixing the concrete and tar as we speak to roll out a highway

Cricinfo says QLD will host the final. If the pitch turns out to be a highway than its obvious that they have doctored the pitch considering how Gabba pitches usually are for the Shield.

They need to change that rule, it's pathetic watching teams in a final play for a draw because it's good enough. I would have them play a final at the minor premiers home ground. If that is a draw they have a rematch at the other team's home ground. If that too is a draw then give the title to the minor premiers, but if either game has a winner then they are premiers. It's not perfect, but it stops teams playing for draws. Alternatively you could play a 6 day final.
