6/160 - I will reiterate that this is the worst Australian team of all-time!!!

In my lifetime only the Kim Hughes led team of the mid-80s was worse - but they were playing against much better opponents (the Windies of the 80s would leave all modern teams in their dust)!

Even that side contained individual champions like Border & Boon - this current side's only Hall-of-Famer is playing and captaining so badly his nomination to the aforementioned Hall will probably have to be delayed by a decade or so!

Thank god for Haddin & Hussey - otherwise the series would already be over!

they need some revamping but only minor changes

id stick with hughes opening…they have to let him find his feet, drop watson to 6 and bring in usman to the middle order so something like

hughes
katich
ponting
clarke
hussey
watson
usman
haddin

siddle
a spinner
johnson

watson can bowl more overs and be the 3rd pace man and this strengthens our batting which is a real weak point at the moment

If Watson bowls more ….. we lose by even more!

The current international cricket system means the likes of Shaun Tait (who the ACA did everything for) can choose to limit injury and reap the financial rewards of bowling 5 overs in 24 hours every 5 days in the IPL!!!

Cricket is fricked!!!

i know its left field but seriously CA should call brett lee stuart clark and brad hodge and plead with them to come out of retirement from test cricket…though i think stuart is still available for selection...he has to be a better option then hilfenhaus

1\. Hughes - has to stay starting to get used to International Cricket Again, katich has no chance of playing, no matter what they say.
2\. Watson - Will not drop him down the order just yet he is batting well enough as an opener
3\. Ponting - Won't drop him but should be
4\. Clarke - Same as Ponting
5\. Hussey - Will retire after this match from Test Cricket
6\. Haddin - Needs to bat at 6
7\. Smith - Showed enough potential to stay in the team but needs to bowl more
8\. Johnson - Great bowler at the SCG and the X Factor
9\. Hauritz - Selectors need to admit they were wrong and pick him
10\. Siddle - Leading wicket taker this series for Aussies
11\. Bollinger - Needs to replace Hilfenhaus

Surely Australian cricket hasn't fallen this far behind the pace, it is embarrassing, agree with triangle surely our bowling attack would be better with Brett lee and Stuart Clark.

How is Watson "batting well enough as an opener"???????????????????????????????

He ran out young Hughes today for what was a useless single against a 450 target!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are currently the worst cricketing nation in the world - because we have not only lost the Ashes on home turf - but our big SCG win against Pakistan in Jan 2010 was only due to corrupt Paki players!!!

Ricky & his imbeciles genuinely believed they were special after that match!!! The following 12 months have proven that the are actually complete crap (& yet Ponting continues to pick his mates)!!!!!

Good riddance Ricky (at some time in 2011 - because it will not be before the World Cup)!!! He is an arrogant small-town mutt who has turned his National team into a boy's club again!!!!

Nielsen is Ponting's [This word has been automatically removed]!!!! And Ponting is only in it for the money now!!!

Throw in some kids and stick to them, my side for Sydney:

1\. Hughes - Give him time to settle rather then have him worry about his place all the time.

2\. Hussey - Began as an opener, we need an opener who can score 100s.

3\. Khawaja - If you're good enough, you're old enough, has a touch of class and time at the crease, no point keeping Ponting now with the Ashes gone, time to start fresh

4\. Ferguson - It will show Clarke he is not a shoe in everytime the side is picked. One day cricket has improved Feguson's game, hopefully Tests will improve it more.

5\. Watson - Needs to bowl more or convert his starts. No excuses by batting at number 5.

6\. Haddin © - A good captain for NSW, a good mid term option

7\. Smith - Keep him in and be patient just like they were with Steve Waugh

8\. Hauritz - Is the number 1 spinner

9\. Johnson - Needs to improve his action or be shafted for Copeland.

10\. Siddle - Our attack needs his heart and control

11\. Bollinger - As above

12th - O'Keefe

Keep that side for 18 months.

1\. Hussey
2\. Watson

I'd start off with the 2 reliable guys. They may not be full blown openers, but I'd rather they bat together at 0/0 not 3/10 like they have been. We really have no openers who are playing well enough, and these 2 have some experience opening the batting, I'd rather an in form make shift duo, than an out of form proper duo.

3\. Ponting
4\. Khawaja
5\. Clarke
6\. Ferguson

Ponting is under a lot of pressure, and if he can't find something in Sydney, I'd probably drop him for next summer, or tell him to retire after the world cup. Clarke was doing sensationally well at 5, but for some reason we seem hell bent on making him our 4, where he struggles. Khawaja and Fergy are both very talented youngsters who deserve a crack.

7\. Haddin

No brainer

8\. Hauritz
9\. Johnson
10\. Harris
11\. Siddle

Hauritz should never have been dropped, he's the best spinner in the country (as sad as it sounds) and is doing very well with the bat for NSW. Johnson and Siddle are hot and cold, however both have had great spells with the ball this series, if they can't deliver in Sydney, I would consider getting them out of the side too, 1-2 good innings in a 5 match series just isn't good enough. Harris, whilst having a dodgey knee, is probably the best quick in the country on his day, and was in fantastic form for Qld before the Ashes started.

If Sydney is another disaster, I would consider a mass cleanout, where probably only Watson, Haddin and Hussey would be retained, and the rest of the side can earn their spots back in Shield cricket at the back end of this season and the start of next season.

Both suggested teams are a mere shuffling of the deckchairs on the Titanic!!!!

Ponting and his mates need to go first!

Not sure about shuffling the deckchairs there mate :stuck_out_tongue:

I got Ponting and Clarke out of my side with Fergy and Khawaja in, Hussey as opener so we have an opener who can score 100s and help Hughes, Watson down the order so he can bowl more or convert his starts better. I got Hauritz back in there, Bollinger for the injured Harris, Copeland for Johnson if he doesnt fix his action up and Haddin as captain.

Some people may want Hussey to stay in the middle order, if thats the case, Fergy can drop out and Marsh or Klinger can come in.

Wow so many teams and team selection. I would say for the next test, only Johnson, Siddle and Haddin are certainties. Yes, Watson, Hussey and prolly Clarke are certainties but they have no idea where they will be playing. Most of the above ideas sound good of reshuffling the batting line up but I'm more of a perfectionist and would always prefer specialists in their spots. This would include not batting Hussey, Watson as openers, however I know Watson has a way better record as opener than middle order. So, this would be my team.

1\. Hughes- deserves a go! must have another go.
2\. Khawaja- this may contradict my statement bout specialiss but this guy has just started and I have seen his techniques, and the way this guy plays, maybe he is an opener. Anyways, he will take the no.3 spot when or eventaully when Ponting retires.
3\. Ponting- should be there bcause he is a legend believe it or not, and he doesn't deserve to be dropped. He has given a lot to Australian cricket, minus maybe the last 12 months. Maybe cricket needs to give him back a little?
4\. Watson- I reckon this is where Watson is needed. He is the Kallis of Australia, and Kallis never really scored big tons either.
5\. Clarke- This guy has one of the best footwork IMO and his best spot is no.5 where he can add runs quickly if needed or slow things down when needed. Future captain? perhaps, but maybe not.
6\. Hussey- I'm not saying he should be dropped down or anything, but this should be his last test and Ferguson will take his spot in the future, and this is where Ferguson should play in the future.
7\. Haddin- future captain? looks good to me.
8\. Hauritz- yup, he should've never been dropped. but he will learn. and for me, he might be a captain material.
9\. Johnson- buck up Johno
10\. Siddle- looks good this series, but for me you cannot have Siddle and Johno in the same team. They both bowl too straight. Personally, I would go for Johno coz he has some variety in him. Siddle does what his captain asks him to but isn't a cricket brain like Johnson.
11\. Bollinger- Australia's best bowler this year. I have no idea why he was dropped!

I have picked this team looking for the future. 100% sure, this won't be the team picked but aye it's a forum, entitle to my opinion even if they sound really stupid

I wouldn't dump Punter and Clarkey now, it's a dead rubber (barring a miracle), give them one last shot at redemption. If we happen to change captains post-ashes, I would want to give the new captain a clean slate and a fresh start. If Ponting/Clarke fail in Sydney, they'd be gone from my side too.

I say bugger off Tim Nielsen the coach too. We were no way near this inconsistent under Buchanan. Under Nielsen, we are inconsistent and there are some dumb plans.

I'd like to see something like this for the 5th test considering Harris and Katich are injured.

1\. Watson
2\. Hughes
3\. Khawaja
4\. Hussey
5\. Clarke
6\. Ponting
7\. Haddin
8\. Hauritz
9\. Johnson
10\. Siddle
11\. Bollinger

I am hearing whispers that Ponting wont be playing in the 5th test. They should have tryed him down the order. Maybe it's because of his finger injury. I guess we will find out more soon.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting will miss the fifth Ashes Test against England at the SCG due to a lingering finger injury.

Ponting has undergone a repeat scan on the little finger he injured in the third Ashes Test at the WACA Ground, the scan showing the fracture had moved during the fourth Test at the MCG.

Ponting may have to undergo surgery, but a decision will be made in the coming 24 hours.

"He needs to commence treatment immediately to achieve a satisfactory outcome," team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement.

"The treatment options include surgery or aggressive splinting and immobilisation of the injured finger. A decision on the treatment option will be made in the next 24 hours after further consultation with the hand specialist.

"His return to cricket will be based on how quickly the fracture heals and he will hopefully commence training in the later part of the Australian summer. He is expected to be fully fit for the ICC Cricket World Cup."

They should have tryed Ponting down the batting order (maybe at 6) at the start of the ashes.

How is Krezja going in the state league?
