Cricket Season Thread

I'm with you Stryker, I have faith until we're out.

If Clarke was smart he'd bowl himself more. He always been a surprise packet as a part time bowler. Oughta back himself now that he's captain.

Unfortunately guys I think we will be chasing a fair few with Prince and Boucher still to come
Its funny the guy who I thought should bowl himself more was actually Ponting

Early on in his career he was about Mark Waugh's pace and could really swing a ball
Unless he lost the swing I always thought he could be a handy wicket taker in the same way Doug Walters was

The game is getting away from the Aussies, it was only a matter of time until Amla and De Villiers started scoring some runs.
Johnson is bowling off a short run with no pace and not looking like taking a wicket. Its looking like the end for a few of our guys.

3-229\. Lead is about 200\. The wicket looks good - we were 0-175 and they've got to 3 for over 200\. But I have zero faith in our batting. Most of them seem incapable of defending straight balls. And once one domino falls the rest collapse in a heap.

Righteo Ricky, this is your Steve Waugh moment!

I gotta say if we collapse again, questions need to be asked about Justin Langer's role as batting coach.

Gee guys and girls no mention of Cummins getting 6-79 on debut Congratulations on a fine effort young fella Hope it is a sign of things to come

Absolutely, it's a shame he got no support from our "spearheads" Johnson and Siddle. Surely one of them has to make way for Harris (or axe both and bring in Copeland as well).

At least Siddle was economic. Johnson was going for well over 4.5 runs an over.

I agree though, punt Johnson at the very least for Harris, and bring Copeland in.

Good to see Khawaja & Punter stabilise the innings, a shame Uzi couldn't go on with it. I want Ricky to knock a ton and really put a lid on all the detractors though. Clarke also needs to show a bit of leadership and stick it out there with Ponting.

Khawaja looked very good last night. I like the way he on drove for 4 off his first ball. His only problem is he tends to get tied down easily but he showed some signs of overcoming that by taking some singles and turning over the strike. With all the injuries he should get a good run against NZ and get a chance to score some runs.

could this be something for ponting to go out on a high if he scores a hundred and we win. Punter deserves to go out on his own terms but his form doesn't warrant selection for the rest of the summer. i can see selectors saying you're not going to play india so make NZ your last series and go out "on your own terms" which will allow marsh to come back in from injury and see a good younger team give it a real crack.

i see haddin gone after this match unless he pulls out a miracle which i doubt he can. Wade/Paine would come into contention especially considering Wade was picked for AUS A to play NZ soon. A solid performance could see another debutant.

Johnson while i do like him as a bowler and cricketer i think he needs to stay. its all well and good to say he isn't taking wickets in bunches he has the ability. while that may not be enough to keep him in i think his batting at number 8 could see him stay. another bowler Copeland/Siddle (Harris will come back in if his fit) would extend the tail even longer and once we lose our 5th wicket it could be a short time before we bowl.

Cummins is going to be a superstar he has the X and Y Factors to destroy batting orders. He will be the leader of the bowling team within 2 years as long as he isnt over used. i wouldn't play him in the big bash or international 20/20s he doesnt need the extra work load instead give that job to mitch starc another very bright prospect we saw last year play a few ODI's

NZ Series my team would be (Assuming Watson, Marsh and Harris injured)

1\. Hughes
2\. Warner
3\. Khawaja
4\. Ponting
5\. Clarke
6\. Hussey
7\. Wade
8\. Johnson
9\. Cummins
10\. Siddle
11\. Lyon

Feel though without Watson the team is missing another bowling option who can take wickets not just bowl a few overs to let the others recover

For India

1\. Hughes
2\. Marsh
3\. Khawaja
4\. Clarke
5\. Hussey
6\. Watson
7\. Wade
8\. Johnson
9\. Harris
10\. Cummins
11\. Lyon

Apart from Johnson I like the second team. I'd suggest Johnson will have bugger all impact against India and the Indian batsmen would be hoping he gets picked.

I'm much the same, except I wouldn't give Hughes a start.

I'd be running the following:

1\. Khawaja
2\. Marsh
3\. Clarke
4\. Hussey
5\. Ponting
6\. Watson
7\. Wade
8\. Harris
9\. Copeland
10\. Cummins
11\. Lyon

It's a long tail, but the batting order would best suit the current ability of the team. If the selectors give Hughes a stay of execution I'll be very annoyed.

Australia 6-287 Could we possibly sneak home
Three guys being written off have come to our aid Ponting ,Haddin and Johnson (with the bat anyway)

AUSTRALIA WINS Cummins smashes a pull shot for 4 What a debut 7 wickets and get to score the winning runs Well down Men
Special mention to Stryker and Bogan for showing the faith in the boys Must admit i didn't give them much hope especially after losing Watson and Hughes early
