Cricket Season Thread

great match to me though it shows that johnson needs to stay around, his bowling is not at its peak sure but he extends the batting order and gives the team a chance in situations like that, not many other bowlers world wide would be able to do what he just did. he will gain confidence from this and his bowling will improve because of this.

hughes will stay he scored a century 3 tests ago against sri lanka and an 88 in this test. they wont be dropping him for NZ series thats for sure. if he goes rubbish in those tests he will be under pressure but they cant just keep dropping him and then bringing him back. he has the talent to score runs which he has shown on numerous times and especially if watto doesnt play they wont have a complete new opening partnership

Patty Cummins hey!

7-fa & hit the winning runs, Penriff boys always get the job done

Good to see Johnson stand up with the bat in both innings, even though he isn't bowling well.

Lesson ;
Never write off an Australian cricket team. It's funny how often the maligned always stand up when we need them to.

I love punter and dont want to see him dropped however he is most definetly coming to the end of his career. One last summer. He provides more than just his batting. He has earned the right to go out on his terms but I agree it will have to be soon.

Johnson can be infuriating with the ball but as evidenced today he really is an all rounder and that will probably see him play this ummer as well.

Good knock from Hads…needs some more of the same mate.

Great test from Cummins, welcome to the team son.

Here Here Stryker Would of been a great version of "Under the Southern Cross we Stand" to listen to

It sure would have mate, theres at least three very relieved men in that dressing room. They would be on it huge….

On FSN they're talking as though Ponting has already played his last test. I doubt that very much so considering he got 62 in the second innings which ended up being the difference between us winning and losing, as long as he keeps scoring runs, he can end his career on his terms, if he doesn't, his career may end prematurely.

Scoring runs against NZ shouldn't justify his selection, he needs to score runs against India to prove his value to the team.

Mickey Arthur named as new Australian coach Not overly happy the coach isn't Australian

Our next coach should be Darren Lehmann He is doing wonders with the Qld team

Our next coach could be a three-toed sloth and I wouldn't care less, as long as they extract everything they can out of the boys and improve the consistency of the team.

I guess if we get a three toed sloth as coach though we will need to get Mike Young back to help as the fielding coach CB
Three toed sloths are rated as the laziest animals on the planet also CB

I lack your confidence in the three toed sloth CB 😱pen_mouth:

If my ridiculous and hastily cobbled together analogy had any legs before, it certainly doesn't now Happy

My Team for the future

I love Ponting and Hussey and I think they should get a chance in Australia to go out in style but once they retire or are moved on here is what I think the team should look like.

I think Watson needs to go down the order for us to get more out of his bowling and I believe Warner deserves a chance at opening given his current form.

1.Warner
2.Hughes
3.Khawaja
4.Marsh
5.Clarke
6.Watson
7.Paine
8.Johnson
9.Siddle
10.Cummins
11.Lyon

Compare that to the team we had 5 years ago lol

1\. Hayden
2\. Langer
3\. Ponting
4\. Martyn
5\. Clarke
6\. Hussey
7\. Gilchrist
8\. Warne
9\. Lee
10\. Clark
12\. McGrath

No wonder we were so dominant, easy to remember too because the team hardly changed lol.

If we keep going back every 5 years after that to 1991 you will see we had a slow change over of players in the 90s however that stopped in the 2000s, probably because the players were so good and so we almost became a victim of our own success.

2001
1\. Hayden
2\. Langer
3\. Ponting
4\. M Waugh
5\. S Waugh
6\. Martyn
7\. Gilchrist
8\. Warne
9\. Lee
10\. Gillespie
11\. McGrath

1996
1\. Taylor
2\. Elliot
3\. Blewett
4\. M Waugh
5\. S Waugh
6\. Ponting
7\. Healy
8\. Warne
9\. Reiffel
10\. Gillespie
11\. McGrath

1991
1\. Taylor
2\. Marsh
3\. Boon
4\. Jones
5\. Border
6\. M Waugh
7\. Matthews
8\. Healy
9\. Hughes
10\. McDermott
11\. Reid.

Looks like Dave Warner will be taking the shine off the new ball against the Kiwis… Team is shaping as:

Hughes
Warner
Khawaja
Ponting
Clarke
M Hussey
Haddin
Johnson
Harris
Cummins
Lyon

I hope not Yoss I hope Australia can find an opener who can really graft an innings out ,someone who can really anchor the innings The young opener from Qld looks like he is that style of player but he is nowhere near ready yet .Give him 2 seasons though …....

Come on Happy, everyone knows if you want someone to paly tests for Australia you look to NSW players first and only resort to picking players from other states if you have to! Even Ponting lives in NSW. Now if we can get this side together for the 2nd test we'll be laughing! Bollinger in for Starc if fit.

Hughes
Warner
Khawaja
Ponting
Clarke
Watson
Haddin
Smith
Copeland
Cummins
Starc

Sorry Yoss had totally forgotten about rule 63 E subsection 5

At least if the selectors do that all Qlders can be absolved from all responsibility of the plight of Australian Cricket and give us Qlders more reasons to kick NSW in the goolies when things aren't looking pretty and they can't produce superstars like Qld can

After all that is the way of the jungle

No we disowned him once he left
Same goes for Watson as well (even though we went to the same school )
That goes for all Qlders that live elsewhere now

(Happy sits hanging onto rod waiting for some big hits)

I'll take a nibble at the bait  haha
But we all know NSW produce the best young cricketers.
With a national side still in transition, young players are going to be preferred to older one's. No point picking guys like Dave Hussey who are just going to retire in 2 or 3 years anyway.
We have basically gone through 2 transitions in 5 years because we replaced the first batch of retirees with 30 year olds.
First we had Langer, Hayden, Martyn, Gilly, Warne and McGrath go.
Followed by Lee, Symonds, Clark and Katich with Ponting, Haddin and Hussey approaching their twilight.

Who else would you consider who is young, in form, ready and not from NSW? There's Cutting and Pattinson who would replace Johnson and Siddle and they arent from NSW anyway, Wade for Haddin, Peter George from SA, Coulter-Nile would be in the mix barring injury.
But I cant really think of any batsmen or openers who can slip right in besides Khawaja and Marsh. I'm not sure if Warner is ready but at least he has scored runs unlike the other openers around.
