Watson ??

Anything wrong with him ,I'm keeping one eye on the Shield game between NSW v Qld ( we are giving to you as usual) You guys are steadily losing wickets but Watson isn't coming out to bat

Any reason why ??

One person we can't go without is Watson next week

He went off during the Qld injury with an injury. Possibly a calf although now I think about it maybe that was Ponting. Anyway some injury that he was getting scans on so he's probably been at the hospital.

Story on the ninemsn page

Same left calf he injured in England at the start of the England tour Ponting didn't finish the Shield game in Tassie

Not good signs at all for our batting line up

Turn he volume down and listen the ABC Grandstand GNR

Any of the newer members of missionary team annoy the crap out of me , in particular Taylor and Slater

Over rated cricketers and commentators imo

Bit harsh to say Taylor is an over rated player but agree 100% on the commentating, I can listen to Kerry O'keefe and Damien Fleming all day with ol mate Maxwell piping in aswell

Not a fan of Fleming. Cant stand his voice, talks out of his nose. Love Kerry, Maxwell is pretty cool too. Roebuck always made the game interesting. Can't stand Glenn Mitchell

I must say that the ABC team is fantastic, and not far behind are the Fox Sports crew when they cover the Big Bash League.

It will be a sad day when Skull walks away from commentating.

Just goes to show that this 'resting' thing that CA are obsessed with is a load of BS. Bring Watson home early, re-injures his calf, treat Cummins with all these precautions, still injures his back. Even Ponting, has 6 months off and has a hammy issue.
The players just need to get out there and get their bodies into the rhythm of bowling long overs day after day.

As Freddie Trueman said previously that they did a bit of preseason fitness stuff , but did little training once the season was underway as the cricket during the games kept you fit

They are overworking these blokes with all the cross training and the three forms of the game

I think something has to give and ODI's I think will be the fall guy

Ponting's was precautionary, he will be right to play but I think there could be an issue with Watson. Theres a good chance he will play but won't be able to bowl which could see us play 4 quicks

And Shane Watson comes from ?????????????????????

QLD….. And he failed

Btw were you at Allan Border Field today Happy? :stuck_out_tongue:

TO rub more salt into the wounds on a disastrous day for Australian cricket, Michael Clarke was wrongly given out and relentlessly heckled by rowdy Queensland fans.
>
Clarke, who last night admitted he had no answers about why boom teenage quick Patrick Cummins (back stress fracture) has broken down for another summer, heads the long line of Test batsmen who have failed in Sheffield Shield cricket over the last two days.
>
The Test skipper, playing for NSW at Brisbane's Allan Border Field, was caught behind for eight but claimed he did not edge a delivery from young Queensland quick Cameron Gannon.
>
Top-order Test henchmen Dave Warner (2) and Shane Watson (33) also didn't make an impact as NSW was bowled out for 184 -- and then the Brisbane crowd turned on the Australian stars.
>
**A group of fans sitting behind the pickets sledged Clarke and Watson in the field, just to make matters worse on a day that Australian cricket would love to forget.\
\
"First he (a fan) was abusing me about the fact we lost the last two Ashes series -- I said I understand, but I am not playing the Ashes today," Clarke said.\
\
"I am not getting into what he was having a crack at Watto about.\
\
"I offered the guy a lift home, I said he was more than welcome to come and sit on the team bus. It is amazing what a few too many XXXX Golds can do."**
>
Literally nothing went right for Australian cricket yesterday, but Clarke insisted all the Test batsmen who failed in state cricket would be better in next week's Gabba Test against South Africa.
>
Ed Cowan (6), Ricky Ponting (5), Mike Hussey (3) all failed in state cricket and Australia has more worries with Cummins ruled out for the summer and Ponting suffering hamstring soreness in the lead-up to next week's Test.
>
Clarke didn't appear too concerned last night -- and certainly felt his own innings yesterday was wrongly terminated.
>
"I didn't hit it but that is the game...I hit my pad so I can see why it was given out because it made a noise at the right time," Clarke said.
>
Queensland was 3-66 at stumps last night with former Test batsman Usman Khawaja (36no) looking a class above what all other batsmen produced.
>
Adding to preparation worries leading into next week's Test is that yesterday's Shield clash was the first red-ball game for Warner and Watson in more than six months.
>
Clarke, who conducted a one-on-one batting tutorial with Warner on the top oval yesterday, would love his Test batsmen to be spending more time in the middle.
>
"Batting in the middle is worth 20 net sessions, so as much time as we can spend in the middle it is going to be better preparation for us," he said.
>
Test hopeful Mitchell Starc (0-11) did not do anything to enhance his Gabba Test chances and it appears unlikely he would play, unless it is a very wet week in Brisbane and Australia deploys four frontline quicks.
>
Clarke is scratching his head about why teenage quick Cummins has broken down again.
>
"I spoke a while ago to Brett Lee about a similar thing and Brett made it clear that he had a lot of injuries at a young age as well." Clarke said.
>
"I think when you are bowling at that sort of pace, with that amount of work and force going through your body at a young age when your bones are still growing, it is always going to be tough."
>
In all the other drama for Australian cricket, the magnificent effort from the Bulls bowlers should not be overlooked, with Luke Feldman taking 4-47 and Alister McDermott claiming 3-54.

It hasn't been the best preparation for the Aussies. I read Rob Quiney has been called up into the squad as cover for Watson. I think Khawaja can feel a little bit hard done by there.

Lets hope Cummins can get over these injuries rather soon.

No wasn't at the game Jazza

Your whinging because Watson failed

Then don't steal him from Qld

Your whinging about 2 NSW players being top scorers

Don't let them go to Qld

NSW supporters Shheesh Lose everything and then whinge that they lose because they let their players go

Hook, line and sinker

What are your thoughts on Quiney being selected as cover for Watson?
I'm pretty comfortable with it, I think he'll do a good job. It would of been good to have a younger guy there pressing for selection instead of another 30 year old debuting, but in saying that he has been very consistent over the last couple of years and they can't keep picking guys based on potential over form. Otherwise we'll be the new Pakistan and players careers will be over by 25.

Not much left to choose from really Jazza Quiney ,Hughes or Khawaja are the only guys who might possibly cope

Then again they won't pick Khawaja he is a Qlder and not one Qlder could make the Top 26 players in Australia according to Australia A selections or the Test side

And who only a short 8 months ago won the Shield ….....

I know he's 35 but Dave Hussey is the only bloke outside the test team with a first class record that warrants selection. A test series against the world's best team is not the place to chuck someone with a mid-30s 1st class average into their first series. D Hussey is in form, experienced at international level, and isn't likely to be overawed. If Ponting AND Watson are out I think he should be considered as one of the guys to come in. Khawaja would also be a massive chance.

Happy, the Aust A side was never supposed to be the 2nd XI for the S-Africa game. No doubt the selectors thought playing against NSW in the shield was just as good a workout for the Qld bats. All in all the Aust A team was a odd assortment of players…

Alex Doolan should come in for Ponting, if hes injured IMO. Hes young and inexperienced yes, but hes made a mountain of runs recently and just made 160 for Aus A against the Saffas attack which included Steyn and Philander. I would expect them to put Khawaja in though due to his prior experience
