Just get home to see Kallis sky one to Pointing in the first over after tea of Siddle only for the umpire to send it upstairs and find out it was a no ball.

Is it just me or do we seem to get a bigger share of wickets checked for no-balls than anyone else? I'm not suggesting anything untoward just frustrating. Of course if Siddle did the right thing there'd be no issue.

Yeah i can remember quite a few going against us in the last couple of years as well after being referred.

Its ridiculous that when talking about the greatest players ever, Kallis is rarely if ever mentioned. Easily the best all-rounder of all time

He has an amazing record. I wouldn't say easily the best - Sobers would have to be close to if not better. I do agree he is vastly under-rated by most of the cricket world though.

Sobers has held the mantle of best all round cricketer for decades, but Kallis is knocking on the door. Remember that Sobers bowled finger spin as well as useful medium/fast and was a genius in the field. Kallis not as athletic as Sir Garfield was

By the by great to see Siddle and Hilfenhaus living up to their journeymen tag while an in form left armer is warming the bench. Bet the Saffers can't wait to bowl at Ponting and Hussey

The Aussies are flat track bullies. Like i said in an earlier post SA will kick their butts then they'll come out and wipe the floor with SL

I wasn't fortunate enough to see Sir Garfield play, but if you line their statistics up, Kallis would have to be the best all rounder since Sobers.

Sobers played 93 tests for 8032 runs at an average of 57.78, and took 235 wickets @ 34 RPW. (Source Wikipedia.)
Kallis has played 155 tests for 12641 runs at an average of 56.94, and has taken thus far 280 wickets @ 32.6 RPW. (Source Cricinfo.)

They're fairly similar with the bat, but Sobers has him covered with the ball, although I wonder how many of those 280 wickets have been taken in the last 5 years, as Kallis isn't utilised nearly as much as he used to be as a bowler.

Without peer in their respective eras and no real basis for comparison between them, but by golly Kallis is the most complete cricketer I have seen in my lifetime, and I thoroughly enjoy watching him play.

Massive issues with our technique if anything. Quite simple, keep part of the foot behind the line and you don't get called.

My only issue with the South Africans (and the Sri Lankans also) is they seemed to play a lot of series vs the Zimbabweans and the Bangladeshis during the middle 90's to the early 2000's

Some people's records are far inflated than maybe they should be

Imagine if Warne or Ponting played that many series vs the Zimmies or Bangladeshis as well

Kallis is the greatest all rounder I have seen , but when I speak to my father and compare the Kallis and Sobers he tells me there is no comparison and that Sobers could do anything on the cricket field

He was at the first day of the tied Test and classed Sobers innings the greatest he ever saw

Happy, what is your dad's opinion on Keith Miller and were did he place him amongst the greatest all-rounder's? Does he rate him better than Kallis? Cheers

What a great Aussie legend Miller was champion cricket player and a Royal Australian Air Force Pilot during WW2

I'll have to use my Grandfather's ratings on Miller ,Dad was a bit young to appreciate Miller in his prime

My Grandfather told me about the Essex game during the Invincibles tour in 1948 If you don't know the story the Aussies scored 750 runs in a single day Miller's contribution being a 6 first ball and purposely getting out second ballSupposedly Bradman thought Miller needed some batting practice ,that was Miller reply As he said Miller was the greatest of his era in his prime and some of the stories about his off field antics were legendary

I have heard a story that Miller was allowed to land the plane of 1955 tour of the Windies , he had known the pilot from his WW2 days , but all players were banned from that stage on

Miller suppoedly classed himself as a bowler first and foremost

The one story I always remember was the one in regards to Jack Iversen a leg spinner from Victoria,my Grandfather classed him as the greatest leg spinner he had seen (he unfortunately died before seeing Warne)

Thanks mate I appreciate that and hearing story's about the players from the past that I haven't heard before. Skull always cracks me up when he tells a story about his days playing cricket then again i only need to hear his infectious laugh to do that.

Was in the car listening to Kepler Wessels and Henry Lawson telling stories about batting vs the West Indies when Henry was sconed in the head

Henry's comment made me almost crash the car when describing his batting skills " Even a blind squirrel can find an acorn" :roll

That probably would of been the the biggest nightmare in world cricket Playing back to back series (home and away)vs the West Indies in the mid 80's

There was a famous interview with Miller where he was asked if he felt under 'pressure' in a particular match. He responded 'Pressure? This is not pressure son, having a Messerschmit up your arse at 20,000 feet is pressure'
