Cricket Season Thread

They've been found out this morning. Saffa's are 7/273 at lunch with du Plessis and Kallis out there.

If Kallis goes cheap, they'll go to pieces.

Hello, three quick wickets and the South Africans have got them self back into the game. Whilst we still hold a handy lead of 260 odd runs the TAB won't be paying out just quite yet.

Gotta feel for Ponting.
Had a great career but everyone's time comes to an end. Unfortunately I can't see him regaining form.

Agree Happy…will b a very nervous first session tomorrow morning..not sure it will turn much in the last 2 days so am thinking get 400 ahead and put the pressure back on them .. Don't think they would go for that

Even if we get 400 ahead you'd imagine at the current run rates they will have about 4 and a half sessions to get the runs

Highly gettable with us being a bowler down

Thank God Kallis isn't fit

Kallis is an absolute legend, Chappell hit the nail on the head when he said they have to play him in Perth because hes better on 1 leg than any 2 legged replacement they can bring in for him

Although unlikely, hopefully we can bat until tea tomorrow and set them about 450 to win in 4 sessions. With Pattinson injured, Clarke will probably need to do a fair bit of bowling on day 5\. Maybe Hussey with his stump to stump medium pacers could snare the odd wicket with the bounce becoming more and more uneven as well.

Either way, with us being a bowler down I am feeling pretty nervous about this game.

Btw is it just me or should CA look into what Alex Kantouris is doing? I dont remember there being this many injuries when Errol Alcott was our physio. My confidence in the fitness of our bowlers is about the same as my confidence in the NRL refs, there is none.

I think you are right there Jazza. The bowlers seem to breaking down a hell of a lot. Kontouris is the bloke in charge and there just seems to be way too many injuries.

Should be an interesting first hour or so, the wicket seems to be deteriorating a bit and you would think due to the cracking score we posted on Day 1 that there should be a result either way. 270 is a handy lead with wickets in hand but it's a bit of a concern being a bowler down.

No matter what we lead we finish up with, we will have the runs on the board. The wicket is breaking down and offering a bit more to the bowlers so there's no guarantee that SA will romp it home.

Will Pattinson bat? Could effectively be 6 down

I reckon we'll have enough now anyway. Just keep them out in the field for a couple of more hours to tire them out and then get stuck in.

It has been a dominant game so far by the Aussies….still some work to do but with a full day we should easily win. If not, something truly heroic would have to happen.

Obviously Starc is almost certain to come in for Pattinson but Jackson Bird must be a massive chance to make the XII over in Perth. Demolished WA today in Hobart with 6/25\. Averages under 21 with the ball after 16 games.

Yeah unless there is a miracle, the Aussies have this. The South Africans haven't had it easy with a couple of injuries but they still have been disappointing. Their intent and attitude isn't anywhere near as positive as it should be.
Tahir has struggled a lot and the quicks haven't been as menacing as what I thought they would be.

Moises Henriques should be looked at. He's had four innings's for NSW in the shield this year for a century and two fifties and taken 9 wickets at an average of around twenty. Obviously not as a first in line bowler but if Watson ever breaks down again he's pretty much a straight swap imo.

I think in Perth it'll be Quiney/Pattinson out and Watson/Starc in with Lyon sticking around. Watson will be right to bowl.

That sounds pretty bang on MacDougall. We'll need a new 12th man though, someone who the media will get excited about because it would be a debut but in reality they're guaranteed to be 12th man…
