Cricket Season Thread

We'll get towelled in India.

I'll preface by saying that I actually do like Nathan Lyon. You don't take 200 odd wickets in 60 Tests if you're rubbish. He just lacks that variation in speed, flight & deliveries and I think that will be key in India where the pitches resemble Roland Garros.

Would like to see a wristy get a go. Zampa shows promise but he's expensive. I don't know if we can afford to leak runs when we're shaky against the turning ball ourselves.
 
I would personally like to see Zampa & Hastings have a go in India.

So our attack would look like:

Starc: Capable of bowling 150+. Man of the tournament in last world cup

Hazlewood: My personal favourite bowler. Glen McGrath rates him as 'the best quick in the world'. Bowls exceptional line and length

Hastings: 2nd leading ODI wicket-taker in 2016 (29 wickets, 15 matches). Lots of varieties to keep batsmen guessing.

Zampa: Leading ODI wicket in 2016
(Gary) Lyon: Australia's best off-spinner of all time.

That is a pretty good bowling attack. Having Starc & Hastings also provides batting depth.

Having the ability to bowl 150 when bowling in India is like driving a 4 wheel drive through the suburbs.

Can't take Hastings now he's out for an extended time with a knee injury I believe. But we really do need a leggie or a chinaman in the team. I really like Boyce don't mind Zampa but I bet swepson might beat them both into the test team.

By the time we come to play India, I am confident Hastings will be fit.
 
What is it about the current lot of commentators and their obsession with stroking their own egos about their playing days? Sad that for both cricket and league, commentary is in the toilet.
 
Bird has bowled well.
A lot of people are looking for someone different…...but he keeps picking up wickets when he is in the Aussie team

Well if the Aussies are winning and Bird is playing well, why change the team.

This is why Maddinson is still in the team.

But sometimes you do need to put some young guys into the team when you have the series in the bag. Say we win this test, I think you will find Chad Sayers gets a bowl in Sydney.

I'm surprised teams haven't tried getting a medium pacer who can bowl leg cutters and vary their pace with the keeper up at the stumps in India

Australian sides have used it with varying degrees of success in the past

Commentators are still talking up the Aussies chances. Either they're stupid or just trying to stop people changing the channel. This match has been a draw since the second day.
