So what does the forum think? Should batters be able to switch hit? As an old bowler I’d send the bastards out without a bat but that’s just me!!?
I'm OK with it. Provided when you switch hit, the legside LBW rule becomes null and void so if a ball drifts and catches you on the pads in front pitching outside what is now leg you can still be given out if the line of the delivery shows it's hitting the pegs.
I say if you are good enough to reset your position and still pull off a shot no problem.
Bowlers deceive with swing, spin, pace, I don't see why batsmen can't improvise as well. And this is from someone who believes bowlers get dudded heavily in the shorter formats now and generally oppose changes to make the game easier for batsmen.
Bowlers get dudded too often CB ...if you want to allow batsmen to face up RH and hit LH ..let's even it up ...uncovered pitches maybe ..bring back sticky's
I'm just sick of the fact bowlers are basically bowling machines now
Did I not say that I usually am on the side of the bowlers? I do agree about giving pitches that offer something to the bowler. Fact is a leg wristy is allowed to bowl a delivery that turns the other way. If he's good enough at pulling it off and it results in a wicket, fair play. Switch hitting is risky in cricket, you've got to pick the line and length and reset your stance and then attempt the shot. Also, as I said, leg pitching rule for LBW goes out the window the minute you attempt to switch hit. Leg side wides should also be automatically discounted too if a delivery is tracking down leg and a batsman attempts to switch hit.
There's a lot of things wrong with the way short form cricket is played and how it is engineered to favour the batsman. I'd be looking more at removing free hit deliveries (what a joke they are,) and delivering pitches with some life that will introduce a contest between bat and ball.
But the batsmen can bat out of his crease ..charge the bowler ....walk around the crease
Looks like it's just something we'll have to disagree on then.
