Root said that this series would define his captaincy.
He hasn’t done too badly besides;
Omits his best 2 bowlers in brisbane on a pitch that would have really helped them.
Opts to bat first on that pitch.
Comes to the crease at 2/11 and makes a duck
Over rates so slow that the team was fined 100% of match fee
Goes into adelaide without a specialist spinner
Loses the crucial toss in adelaide D/N
Doesn't bother to wear a protector in the nets and is hit so badly that he misses most of the day's play
Even his teammates were in stitches when starc hit him in the nuts later in the day

Adding to this list;
Loses 2nd test by 275 runs despite Australia not being to field 2 of their best bowlers, one of whom was captain

Bit harsh to blame him for losing the toss…

Sorry guys,

How boring is Test cricket.

Aussies batting earlier today.. soooooo boring

It is the only form of cricket worth watching

Why you gotta crap on other forms of cricket?

Different formats attract different players. Cricket's popularity would be shot by now if limited overs weren't invented.

Because they are cheapened by the increasing rules changes to benefit batsmen. Free hits off no balls, pitches that offer nothing to the bowlers. They remove the contest between bat and ball that Test cricket generally offers.

And you're right in that different formats attracting different players. T20 attracts players that would not survive in the prime arena of the game.

T20 to Test cricket is what Nine's is to Rugby League, a novelty loosely based on the better form of the game.

Test cricket and to a lesser extent shield cricket is like a well cooked gourmet dinner t20 and one day cricket is like a sandwich without any butter,at best it fills a hole but is not a meal

Adding in this one as well;
Publicly criticises his 2 star bowlers while admitting that they ignore his instructions

Seems some trouble in the sheds for the Poms. Root absolutely scathing on his bowlers (Anderson and Broad) performance in Adelaide. Without naming names, he publicly called them out in his post game interviews for the various broadcasters and in the presser.
At least one of Broad or Anderson is likely going to be dropped for Melbourne. Woods will come in (and probably do a hammy).

Probably bitter they got left out of Brisbane. The both (particularly Anderson,) would have thrived on that wicket.

Can’t believe Harris is going to keep his spot in the team. 23 test innings an average of 22.19 including 2 not outs and a high score of 79. Yeah he can score runs in shield cricket but is incapable of stepping up.

Lucky him that Will Pucovski maintains his propensity to head butt a cricket ball every 3-4 months.

**ICC Test Batting Top 10**

5 Rohit Sharma (India) 797

6 David Warner (Australia) 775

7 Virat Kohli (India) 756

8 Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka) 754

9 Babar Azam (Pakistan) 750

Unfortunately I think Pucovski will have to give it away soon. Way too many head knocks. He’s a major talent just too fragile and his long term health has to come first

**Boland to debut in Ashes selection shock**
Victorian to become first Indigenous man to pull on Baggy Green since Jason Gillespie, with captain Pat Cummins also returning to the side in place of Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser

Australia have dropped a Christmas Day bombshell after confirming Scott Boland will make a dream home Test debut and be given the chance to bowl Australia to Ashes glory at the MCG.

Returning captain Pat Cummins announced today that Boland will become just the fourth Indigenous person to pull on the Baggy Green, with that pair coming into the Australian team in place of Jhye Richardson and Michael Neser.

Josh Hazlewood remains unavailable due to a side injury while Richardson pulled up sore after sending down 38 overs in Adelaide, where he completed his maiden Test five-wicket haul on the final day to secure a 275-run win and set the series ledger at 2-0.

**Australia XI**: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland

Boland, of the Gulidjan tribe in the Colac area of Victoria, joins Faith Thomas, Jason Gillespie and Ashleigh Gardner as players of Indigenous descent to feature at Test level.

Player-of-the-match in the only Marsh Sheffield Shield game held at the MCG so far this season, Boland would be awarded the Jonny Mullagh Medal (named for the star Aboriginal allrounder from Australia's historic 1868 tour of England) if he was to earn that honour again in his maiden Test.

Richardson proved a handful in his first Test in nearly three years but Australia elected to put him on ice as he manages a minor leg injury.

"He was pretty sore," Cummins told reporters on Saturday. "We were umming and ahhing – he had a bowl yesterday but we thought seven days off (before the fourth Test in Sydney) will give him enough rest.

"He's got a small leg injury which is nothing major but we thought rather than risking a long-term injury, we'd give him a week off."

England are shot regardless, but if I was them I’d have thrown Woakes up the order and opened with him. Someone a bit attacking and has already got a few runs. It’s not like he could have done any worse than Burns, plus he could have been an extra bowling option.

I doubt Woakes has ever opened the batting in first class cricket. It’s one thing to score runs as an attacking tail ender but to do it as an opener against a fresh attack with a new ball is something different entirely.

The Boland selection in interesting and has come from no where. Good shield cricket bowler and his home wicket but I feel Neser is unlucky to be dropped he would have been a good balance with Starc and Cummins.

I think Neser and Richardson pulled up a bit lame. Boland worked hard. Bowled a good line early especially and had them probing and just couldn't land the wicket.

England have various problems. Their openers are garbage. Crawley showed more in his cameo today than either Hameed or Burns have thus far. Buttler should be dropped, Bairstow brought in as a full time keeper and then slot in another specialist middle order bat.

Either that or just stack the side with 10 bowlers and a keeper because they seem to either be able to score runs or put a price on their wicket.

As bad as Burns has been, Hameed has been worse. I still stand by my Woakes comment. They’ve really missed Archer too.

Who cares who they are missing or playing or not playing the pain is glorious..

Woakes opening is madness. He's not a Jacques Kallis.

They've got a plethora of bowlers who can get the job done. Their fielding is abhorrent, their keeper isn't even the best one in the squad and they can't select the right bowlers for the right conditions. Anderson and Broad should have absolutely played in Brissy. Wood is their only genuine fast bowler and was left out of Adelaide.

Ellen is a fantastic batsman, but he has been Nasser Hussain levels of diabolical here.

I like to watch a hiding or two in an ashes but overall I'd like to see a contest.

I don’t think they care tbh. They look to be just going through the motions. Butler’s dismissal looked that of a guy who just wants to go home ASAP.

If you lived through the Windies and the 70’s.. you know hiding’s are are glorious..especially the Poms
