To be fair they are only as dangerous as someone bowling at you if not less dangerous as skilful bowlers are capable of getting more swing or better hiding variations, but they are just far more convenient from a training perspective. The most dangerous thing you can really do in a cricketing sense is a bouncer and what’s stopping a bowling doing that during the game ala Sean Abbott to Phil Hughes.
 
A couple of things that give confidence for the Ashes
- England being FLOGGED in ODI series in NZ
losing first 2 with really low scores and today game 3 they are 4-31 so far
We conversely white washed NZ in NZ mainly thanks to Marsh who I wish would make himself available ( form is form )
- the way Hazelwood bowled last night was fantastic just test match style line and length .Starcs last test match he got 6-7 and Boland got a hat trick
- Marnus has been in the runs last couple of months and Smith just posted a ton .
 
My 1st test team
1. Konstas
2. Kwajaja
3. Labuschagne
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Green or Marsh ( depending in fitness)
7.Carey
8. Starc
9.Lyon
10. Boland
11.Hazelwood

Think Inglis in better form than Carey but don't think any change here
Konstas is a gamble but I'm backing the kid for one last chance
20 days cant wait !!!!

Our scorecard following the 3-1 test series win over India
In the last few months we completely white washed West Indies in both
Redball and white ball cricket then
Beat Sth Africa 2-1 in T20i series
Lost Sth Africa 2-1 in ODI Series
Beat NZ 2-0 in T20 I series ( one wash out )
Beat India 2-1 in ODI series ( albeit the one loss was horrendous )
Leading India 1-0 in T20i series ( one wash out )

All in all not bad last 12 months
To come 3 x T20i ( Hobart Gold Coast ,Brisbane ) vs India
Then the Ashes Nov 21 where England have just lost an ODI series to
NZ 3-0 )
However Stuart Broad says the Poms will win easy as our team is the worst team since 2010 .
Last time here Poms lost 4-0 ( only weather stopped it being 5-0 )

Was hoping BF or Tiger 1 or even Tuck might chime in with your teams
Really important our selectors get this right
Nothing will ruin my Summer more than if the Poms win but don't think I need worry that much !

Champion @Stevec,
I always feel the Aussie selectors have pretty much made their minds up re team selection, 9 out of 11 places, way before the team announcement.
(Ready to swing votes etc depending on fitness, form and reputation)

For me, I am not in the Konstas camp (despite him being a Wests Tigers fan 😉) until he shows consistent scores/form as a prelude to the demands of a test match - not just the flashy stuff - a bit like comparing a packet of smarties with a souffle!
Remember test cricket is a 5 day challenge.
I'd have given Weatherald a long term advice of his selection to build his confidence.

The bowlers pretty much name themselves - this has been our team strength for quite a while.

Carey seems to come good in the longer form of the game.

So, the tough ask for selectors is to get our top order right.
For me it's always answered by form.

Either way the selectors go, a test series of us versus the Poms is a real time to savour; there's nothing like it it.
Cricket will always live by the success of the 5 day game.

I don’t usually get into picking whole side, but (and I’m sure you remember me banging on last year), as much as I wanted Konstas in the side for the first test last year, I’m not sure I’m picking him this year.
And yeah form is usually form, same as I called for Sam, I’m getting Mitch back in the group at least.

Hey I seen you were keen on Inglis over Carey, not sure if I’d sack Carey, but Inglis could almost get a crack just of his bat.

I’ve been reading ya Steve, I’m doing an advanced diploma at the moment, and it’s pretty full on. Looking forward to some tests.
 
3rd T20 I
We bat first and get respectable 186 / 6
This despite Head ,Marsh , Inglis and Owen fails
Owen is a flash in the pan achieved nothing in national colours
David a blistering 74 , Great knock by Stoinis 66
Support by Short .
Lot of failures
India lost game 2 because of Hazelwood whos not playing now
We need to defend 186 with Bartlett, Ellis , Abbott and kunemann
Might be tough
