Khawaja's Out of the pink ball test

Australia will need to adjust its plans for who opens the batting in Brisbane with back spasms keeping a veteran star sidelined for the pink-ball Ashes encounter
Usman Khawaja's international future is up in the air after the opener was ruled out of the second NRMA Insurance Test against England due to the back injury he suffered in Perth almost two weeks ago.

Josh Inglis and Beau Webster are both in the mix to return to Australia's XI after the Aussies ruled out Khawaja but did not replace him in the squad.

Khawaja, who turns 39 later this month, had a 30-minute hit in the Gabba practice nets on Tuesday. The left-hander appeared in discomfort at times and has not recovered well enough to be available for selection for the match beginning Thursday.

It means Australia will field yet another new opener in this Ashes series after Khawaja's back spasms in the first Test forced Marnus Labuschagne and then Travis Head to be deployed as makeshift options.
Renshaw lives just up the road.
Make the call Ronald.

England trio Ben Stokes, Mark Wood and Jamie Smith spotted riding e-scooters without helmets in Brisbane

Ollie Pope says the England team has learned its lesson after a handful of players were photographed riding e-scooters without helmets during the Ashes tour.

Captain Ben Stokes, wicketkeeper Jamie Smith and injured paceman Mark Wood were pictured riding scooters around Brisbane in the lead-up to the second Test match on Thursday.

Queensland government rules do not require helmets for those using human-powered scooters, but they must be worn when riding the motorised variety.

Section 256A(1) of Queensland's road rules state that e-scooter riders can face a fine of $166 for failing to wear a helmet without an exemption.

…………….
$166 fine?? Should be jail time IMO.
Public pillory.

I reckon you could get good odds for Uzi’s career being done. He was lucky he made this far. Definitely not a player with a body of work that’s earned him the right to retire on his own terms.

Not many do or should get to retire on their own terms, Warner was blessed due to lack of younger talent, and Uzy has benefited from that a little bit too, but lucky?
Nothing about his career screams lucky to me. Pretty sure it was hard work if you ask him.
Anyway the sooner he retires and moves into CA administration the better.

Can you deport non-citizens for this? Asking for a friend….

Khawaja is out here is my line up

Head, Weatherald, Labuschagne, Smith, Inglis
Green, Carey
Starc, Lyon/Neser (depends on pitch), Doggett, Boland.

I’m choosing Inglis over Webster as Inglis has much much better form with the bat currently and we are replacing a batsman. Also opting for Neser over Webster because I believe he is a much stronger bowler and not too much worse with the bat.

I am a big fan of Webster and reckon he could definitely do the job if called upon though.

Anyway, looking forward to it, been such a big gap between games.

If Kwajaja out ? Probably good idea as in Perth he was not with it even mentally
If Head opens ? Maybe good but risky as new pink ball does a lot but if he does we need a middle order replacement and Inglis just shaves Webster
The biggest disappointment would be no Cummins
Seems he's been rehabbing for 6 months ?
Imo Doggett didn't bowl that great in Perth as speed 130 kph ( medium)
All wickets with bouncers and that won't happen again !
Boland terrible day 1 but match turning day 2
If Lyon 100% fit he must play as he gets a lot of bounce in Brisbane

Starting to wonder if Cummins ever coming back
I would play Neser over Doggett as boosts the batting and bowling similar

Stokes after being peppered about stupid helmet and scooter questions -
"Australia is the best country to tour away from cricket. There are so many things to do.
"You can go out and about and see things that only Australia has to offer, great golf courses, coffee shops and easy places to have lunch.
"We are human. We need to enjoy countries when we get the opportunity because we live in England where it is miserable, freezing cold and dark at 4pm."
Sometimes I think this bloke is alright, then I remember the Fatstow incident and his moral victory.

Australia squad: Steve Smith (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster

4 1/2 months of rehab so far.

Seems reasonable to me given he sat out nearly 6 years of test cricket when he was 18 due to actual stress fractures. All quick bowlers get injured... he'd barely missed a match since becoming captain prior to this.
Be interesting to see if a 95% fit, under done Captain Pat is picked over Doggs?
It took Pat till the 3rd game to hit his peak again last time.
Personally Starc, Bolo, and Pat is not a balanced lineup up. You only have one Teat opening bowler. I know Bolo does at state level but hasn’t really in Tests, and didn’t fair to well in the last until halfway of the second innings. I would have opened with Doggs in the last test tbh, give the new bloke the new chez and let’s see what he can do. Tell him that morning and he would have been G’d up for it too. Bolo comes on first change like normal and maybe he doesn’t over pitch his entire first spell. If they go that way I hope Bolo kills it this time maybe he was trying to do to much to make up for Hazo.
I hope we smash them but it’d be nice if we could bat for two days so the game goes longer than a T20.

Fingers crossed, it goes 5 days...
Only could get tickets for the last day. 🙂

Day five, did they make you pay up front the barstards?

Hey I’ve been to a test first day, and fifth.
None of my mates who came to the first day would go bcoz they reckoned it be a draw. I said Mrs, I’m going on my own. She came. It is still the best day of test cricket I’ve seen. Pup when he was still a pup, punter gave him a crack with a few overs in the day, and he took 3 wickets in the last over to win us the game against India. There were some ebbs and flows throughout the day, Stuart Clarke was fielding in front of us and took a couple of wickets and bcoz of the smaller crowd he could hear me yelling at him that he was gunna take a wicket next over, and gave me thumbs up after he did. Great day.
I hope your day five is somewhat similar.
