A few unsatisfactory series batting averages
Neser 17.0
Green 18.6
Weatherald 20.8
Marnus 24.8
To put in context Starc is 30.2
These are not good enough to retain selection with so many better performers at State level deserving a chance
Neser you could argue he's a bowling allrounder but his bowling today terrible
Green and Weatherald must go !
How is Capt Pat in cotton wool playing just one test in months yet Starc is expected to back up test after test who by the way not only has by far the most wickets in the series ( 26 ) but also has them at the lowest average and best strike rate of any bowler from either team
Cant blame Starc
Batting ave 30.2 Bowling ave 26 wickets at 17
Too many good deserving cricketers not getting a go because of stubborn continuous support for the likes of Green and Weatherald
Must put a 100% in form team on the SCG
4-1 sounds a lot better than 3 -2
Neser top scored on the 1st innings and 4 for
Didn't bowl great in the 2nd innings agreed

When was the last time the Aussies were beaten inside two days? Would be going back till at least the 80’s. It’s never happened in my life time.
that game combined with the pitch i wouldn't take much notice of that result really, Sydney pitch will not be as poor as that and provide a better contest for both teams

hard to believe nobody got past 50 in that test
Amazing stat JT but I think that sums up the game, pitch very bowler friendly, couple that with a lot of terrible shots and there you have it.
Big question is will the Sydney pitch turn, or are those days gone ? We don’t need to bet on runs, wickets etc, just the number of days ! My early thoughts 4.

I think sydney we might get to 5 days with some weather stoppages there somewhere perhaps
tempted to go a draw in Sydney test at $7.50 will assess the weather

You’re a bit rough on Ness. And Marnus.
Ness held his place and then top score and got wickets? And Marnus was the best form bat in shield by a length to Renshaw and then a mile to the next best.
Yeah they could’ve dropped the other 2 for this dead rubber, but I reckon they were giving Green another crack due to his form on the road and the love affair. Weathers ain’t good enough and proved it with his lack of understanding of the LBW law during his own dismissal. That was embarrassing for him and selectors, but they are trying to justify his selection was a good decision, praying he’ll get a score, I don’t see them dropping him for the last game, and they probably shouldn’t. The opener coming in has no leeway with just one game.
The selectors are shite and have painted themselves into a corner again by picking the wrong team at the start and failed to proactively address the issues or just can’t see them coming early enough.

Although I must say that dispite all the injuries, selections, green-tops, and reserve graders, we have somehow yet again given the Poms a pasting when it really mattered. When the games are on the line an Ozy stands up and says not today, not on my watch.

I hope the Sydney pitch is a fair contest between bat and ball.

IMO, there's a massive elephant in the room after this Test.
Two two-day Tests this series exposes an issue I think has been lurking for some time.
And it's NOT about pitches (although I laughed at champion @Buttface picture of the long grass).

It's about the disappearance of both technique and sufficient concentration skills from the art of batting.
I'm finding it harder to believe it's not seriously impacting players' ability to play at Test level.
And no one in the coaches or selector's rooms are lifting their hands to help.
And the players are like school children (and their teachers) who have lost the art of cursive hand writing. Batting technique appears lost in time.

Now the problem of batters' poor technique has gone beyond the playing arena - it's hit the paying public who have paid dearly for booked flights, hotels, and tickets months in advance, sacrificing time with family over the holidays, all in anticipation of the full drama of a Test match at the 'G—the roar of 90,000+ on Boxing Day, the tension building over days, the twists on days four and five.
These recent episodes will stall cricket revenues going forward.

Cricket purists well remember the fight and resolve of playing for one's country.
When the baggy green was earned.
When grit like the Borders and Waughs of our past ensured leadership and never-give-in games.
This elephant is here now for all to see.

This MCG test is the least number of overs that Australia has been bowled out TWICE since 1928 ( 79.5 overs )
That's saying something !
By the way in Perth England were bowled out twice in 67 overs
We can't persist with Green who has not one good innings in 4 tests
Its totally unfair to Beau Webster .Green bowling is also sub par just check his series ave and strike rate
Last year in Sydney Webster had an outstanding game
Also Weatherald apart from his series average of about 20 he has a serious technical flaw where his head goes way outside off and outside the line of the ball .Imo either Renshaw or Konstas would perform better than Weatherald .
Selectors are stubborn as making change would be admission that they got something wrong .
I would not pick Neser for Sydney also .Did well in Brisbane but for me he is both a medium quality batter and bowler .Not outstanding in either !

I just listed Neser and Marnus stats but only suggested dropping Green and Weatherald
