Cricket Season

I can't believe they dumped Krezja after 2 tests. His first test was outstanding, he took 12 wickets, 8 in one innings. Yes, he did go for 215 runs, but put it this way. You bowl him at both ends you have them 8/215 and in real trouble. If one bowler is taking 8 wickets, the other bowlers are only taking 2 between them. 8/215 is averaging 27, not a bad average at all. Granted he did have a shocker at the Waca, but how many players have been retained after 1 shocker. Krezja actually attacks the batsmen to take his wickets, Hauritz gets his wickets when they do something stupid, or he actually turns one and it gets them by surprise.

Siddle had a shocker at the WACA too but they kept him, and look how good he has been since, ICC rookie of the year.
How many shockers has Hussey had lately and they've kept him.
I mean whatever happened to the old Steve Waugh way of just attacking, backing yourself and having agressive fields, to me Ricky Ponting and Cricket Australia have really developed a defensive attitude towards everything.

If Steve Waugh was captain, he'd want a wicket-tacking spinner which would be Krezja, he wouldve backed Phil Hughes to recover from a poor start to the Ashes, he wouldve went for the win in the final test against India rather then bowl part timers because of the over rate, im sure he wouldnt of played Cameron White in the Indian tests, he wouldve went with a front line bowler, and Im sure there wouldnt be as many fieldsman out on the point or square leg boundaries that we see giving away easy singles and eazing the pressure on the batsmen.

I think both Hauritz and Kresja have improved in the areas they needed to. Due to Hauritz being the incumbent I would give him the job though.

Hauritz twelfth man I think theres a smokey we should try this year and thats throw STEVE SMITH FROM NSW
in he can turn it a mile and is a good batsmen hes our most exciting leggie since warne and I beieve hes only
20 or 21

I see steve smith is in the aussie side tonight good luck against the all stars.
I noticed smith scored 81 off 59 balls against tasmania the other day.The way he handled himself in the final of the t20 champions league final was superb with poise beyond his years. If he can continue to improve his bowling I think he can be a champion.

Glen McGrath…..4-1-18-3 in the 20/20 form of the game..... :master:

Why Pidge Why..... 😢

I can't believe the hype around Steve Smith. I see him as a good batting all-rounder. If he's ever in the Australian side it should be at 6 (ie as a Batsman not a bowler). Last time we played a batsman who can bowl some spin as our specialist spinner it was a disaster (Cameron White).

I noticed smith had the best figures of the spinners 2 for 34 compared to krezja 0 for 43 and warne 0 for 33
I say in a year in which we will dominate why not experiment for the future with a leggie.

Put it into perspective. Smith was bowling at State Cricketers and blokes who haven't played a proper game in months (Hayden, Gilly and Warne). Warne and Krezja were bowling at world class batsmen in the Australian team. Smith's bowling stats at state level are very average, but I will say that his batting stats are impressive, his 80 against Tassy the other week was sublime. I just don't think he's a good enough spinner to be selected as a bowler, as a batsman however, he could fit the bill.

Give the kid time, he is only 22 years old. How come the Australian selecters are so keen to thrust every young bloke who shows something into the Australian team, only to dump them within 24 months, Clarke, Hughes and Warner are 3 that come to mind almost immediately. Thrust into the Australian team, instant success, dropped off a bit and found themselves back in the NSW team before they knew it. I just don't want Smith to fall into the same trap because he was promoted too early.

The Australian selectors love to stuff with NSW players. Casson, Hughes, Warner, Jaques, Bollinger, Clark, Lee, Haurtiz are players in the last 12 months who have been stuffed around by the selectors. Dave Warner allowed to have 3 bad ODI games with the bat and is dropped. Ben Hilfenhaus who in 14 ODI's has best figures of 2/43 and still gets picked. Peter Siddle in 13 tests has, at his best, been solid, and yet is given the security of someone who has taken 5 for after 5 for. All the while Doug Bollinger continues to take wicket after wicket in all forms of the game can't even get a look in.

What's to be sad about? We got sids, midge and hilfy now, the 3 best bowlers to ever play the game, just ask Tim Nielsen and Andrew Hildtich.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Siddle, sure he hasnt taken big bags of wickets but he has taken 50 odd wickets from 13 matches, at about 28\. Thats a pretty good ratio and a good average after just 13 matches. You gotta remember McGrath averaged about 40 after 10 tests, and Warney averaged a lot too.

If you look at their Test records:

Johnson - 118 wickets at 28.79 from 27 matches.
Hauritz - 29 wickets at 28.62 from 8 matches.
Siddle - 51 wickets at 29,60 from 13 matches.
Hilfenhaus - 34 wickets at 30.58 from 9 matches.

Theyre pretty good records from young bowlers in this day and age.

Throw in Watson as a fill in bowler, who has 17 wickets from 12 matches at 36.58 and I think we've got a pretty good allround attack that is more likely to share the wicket taking around.

This is the aussie test side, not the u/14's league's club side. Siddles performances don't warrant the security he recieves with his spot. Nevermind the fact that Doug Bollinger, who took 8 wickets in the shield game this weekend, again, is waiting for a chance. Bollinger has thus far been a superstar for Australia in one day cricket and if given the chance he has damn well earnt, he will be one in test cricket as well.

That was good to watch wasnt it. Loved hearing the players out on the field and McGrath looked good with a bit of extra weight on. But we cant ask why Geo, he had to watch his love die and now has to be there for his kids. We should be asking god why, not Pigeon.

He seems like a great bloke.

There seems to be so much talk nowadays about the 'spririt of cricket', I think thats overused but not with McGrath, after what he has been through to be able to kick on, lift the awreness of breast cancer through the Mcgrath foundation, yet still come out, play brilliantly, and have a fun time is great to see.

For me whenever anything pink happens, or even when I see pink, I think of the McGrath Foundation.

A truly great role model on and off the pitch.

Ooooh Ahhhh Glenn McGrath I said oooh ahhh Glenn McGrath :master:
