It sets the theme for the rest of the set.

Did you hear stephano interview this week. Said he learnt how to train better in origin after seeing Dale Finucane train and all the extras he does

Concerning he is not picking that up from our club there lays the difference

Very concerning

That is one of the benefits of entering a camp like the Origin camp, you get to see how the elite players go about their business.

Have you heard the talk about Tyson Frizzell?
Nothing bad but the reason he was recruited to Newcastle was to because he as seen as a leader of the pack on the field and the Knights knew that’s what was needed to help their young forwards.
He gets to training and his as quiet as a mouse.
He lets all his actions lead for him but he isn’t a voice to help the players.

I guess I’m saying Frizell is not too dissimilar to Finucane in how he regards his body and prepares etc but it’s been mentioned to of had no impact on the knights players at all.

Friz doesn't scream leader to me turned out to be an average recruit for them.

I guess tamou isn't doing that at training for us either.

You’ve got to remember the Origin Camp is a camp. It’s live in, sleep, train, prepare.

Day to day comp is different to being there at breakfast, seeing what they eat, how they sleep etc.

I’m sure Tamou is quite a professional regarding those areas and most definitely Chris Lawrence would of been as well. But without following them around 24/7 they can only go off their training ethics.
He is seeing how those elite players approach a game from outside the training paddock.

We are near on last in the league for kick returns and kick return meters.

We must fix that. The chooks had around 360 krm last night and we’re lucky if we get 60. Too much focus on the last play of the set and not enough on the first imo.

hard to get kick return metres when the defense isnt good enough to force a clearing kick

However, when we don't get them, don't forget to get stuck into the club.

Wests Tigers inquire about Scott's availability

Curtis Scott could move to the Tigers for the rest of the season.

The Wests Tigers are in talks with the Canberra Raiders about signing Curtis Scott for the rest of the 2021 NRL season - and potentially longer.

This was sent by Canberra Times just over two hours ago.

They possibly said " Wests Tigers inquire about Scott's availability"

Availability is not making an offer - a leap to far.

Players like Scott are all we can attract at present. He's better than the two centres we have so at least its a small win?

I dont recall any of it either , I never said the club went after any of the two mentioned. But the fact that the club is getting dragged through the mud by the media is what is pissing me off. So as soon as the club mention anything to do with a signing , the media come out like vultures and go for the jugular.
This is where the club should never show their cards and hopefully this shit can stop at some point. Cause it aint helping the club much.
Put players managers in their place , put some sort of rules to managers if they want their players to be signed by our club , they should keep their mouth shut , until the signing is done. Or something like that. Dont leak shit to media.

That is true, we spend a lot of time in our backs bringing the ball up. Whilst it has a lot to do with how deep the opposition get us on play 1 (due to their field position end of their set) it’s still an error we need alot of work in.
Starts and finishes with our forwards in my opinion.

Forwards put kick pressure on, turn and chase back and also are available to help the set.

When I played, it was always known as a backs set and we’d have the fullback, take the return not dropping a winger under, the winger on the (side of possession) take the next, centre then backrower same side and lock to finish to ensure our halfback gets the best play the ball for a decent kick.

There's a bit to this. Mainly, is the ball being caught with the FB or winger on the front foot. If the team has defended well, this is likely as the kick returner can stand deep and run onto catching the ball which always gains good metres. If you have defended poorly, you'll be catching the ball while stationary and will get no KRM, plus the next hit-up or two are going to be dirty.
Lots of things for us to address... bottom line is if our defence every improves so will our KRM even if we don't have Teddy or Tupou or Morris returning - who all make good metres as well!

Not even sure that our management is interested in Curtis. How can the club go into the 2021 season with the two inadequate centres they presented last week?

The club made no enquires re Scott. Canberra and his manager did. There was never any interest from us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoever contacted who, or didn't contact the other doesn't matter. I just hope we finish up with him ASAP for the simple fact he is better than what we currently have.
Gildart, Kaepoea and Scott can fight it out to see who gets a starting gig next season.

Great post!!! We all whinge about the crap journalism, but as soon as they report we missed out on someone (that most likely never occurred), its the fault of Pascoe & Hartigan & Macguire. I dont believe a single thing I read unless its from the club. Even direct quotes I read with context, because these journos make up stuff anytime they want.

All that would be great if the club had any control over it. You've been around long enough to know that Player Manager A rings another club to make enquiries, and suddenly that club is shopping players around. Its dribble.

Player managers are a scourge, and they should be smashed by the NRL, but the clubs have no control over that. WT is doing pretty well to get away from that garbage, but as you know, like journo's, player managers thrive on BS.

Roosters swore they'd never deal again with Isaac Moses, after he shafted them, then went and signed his boy Tedesco. Even the Roosters won't ban or blacklist a manager forever if they want someone in his stable.

No I didn’t Tony, whatever Finucane is doing in his personal regime is worth taking notice of as with all elite players in the origin side. Stef has had a wonderful opportunity to see if anything they’re doing could be of benefit to him and to share his knowledge with his teammates. Wish we had a couple more in the squad.

Wait, why?
Why Scott, when were bringing in Gildiot or whatever his name?

Why does everyone seem to suggest we buy 2-50 specialist Centers? Seriously of all positions I have no idea why some Center always gets suggested for Recruiting and usually when we have 2x in position already.

Don’t think anyone wants 50 centers we just want 2 that are nrl level. At the end of the day the market is very thin. Scott is better than what we have and is cheap, he is young and can actually defend.

Yes we have Gildart someone who has an injury history, has never played a game of nrl and is young. If he sets the world on fire and does the job in the centers then he would be an extremely rare recruit to do so. 95% of english backs that fly over end up back home within a season as they can’t even make it on reserve grade here.

I will take your point, Curtis Scott is known as a defender and we are leaking too many points.

Yet with Defense it's a team sport. Changing the back line only means Nofo thinks he needs to step out while his center expects him to step in. The coordination is a huge problem and I get our signings reflecting a need for good defenders.
Just the chop and change isn't going to be helping.

Ofcourse we have to get this right in the first instance. BJ Leilua was too slow and not engaged enough in the game. Roberts I think may have it in him yet, but hey he has to show that on the field.

I take the point, neither right side or left side have gelled enough to stop leaking points. So hey lets change till it is right and then let the combination Gel, i.e. wing, center and second rower learn to trust each other and learn when to provide help.

I agree with gel/chop and change but the main reason for that is our squad just isn’t good enough in some positions. If we had Scott and say Lomax with a backrower who can defend I doubt we would be talking about that in 6mths. Reality is we need to recruit.

The bottom line is, that we are all pissed off, and frustrated, that we have the worst backline in history, the most money we have had to spend, and recruiters as tight as a Jewish frogs bumhole.

And no good player wants to come here
