Diehard fans fume over Tigers star's photo

In an embarrassing look for the struggling Wests Tigers, the club's player of the year, fullback Daine Laurie, was seen wearing his former club's jersey while celebrating the Panthers' grand final victory on Sunday night.

Laurie was named the joint Kelly-Barnes medallist alongside Luke Brooks as the Tigers' player of the year last week but that didn't stop him from showing support for his old team as images emerged of Laurie celebrating Penrith's grand final win, much to the displeasure of diehard Tigers fans.

Laurie made his debut for the Panthers last season before being granted a release due to the wealth of talent Penrith had at the fullback position.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald the jersey he was seen wearing was the same one in which he made his NRL debut.

you know what's embarrassing? The storm players getting only a one match ban for snorting illegal drugs and they are not making a big deal out of it... like seriously these journos are just idiots!

Seriously can’t see the problem, he was one of the few tigers who gave it all each week and he’s just having a bit of fun with some old teammates, what a non event to get in the news.

Laurie has nothing whatsoever to apologise for. He should support his friends and former teammates when they win the competition. It sounds like another beat up by media members looking for something to write about now that the season is over. Laurie played his guts out for the Tigers this season (until his injury) and that is all that should matter.

If we had won the premiership this year and Harry Grant was spotted cheering us on in a tigers jersey, we'd all be saying how great it is.

And the storm fans?

That’s an interesting one. I would imagine, just like with power imbalances in sexism and racism etc: the average Melbourne supporter wouldn’t care about a Melbourne player wearing a tigers jersey. Yet the same principle applies as a double standard.
