Penrith have signed troubled Wests Tigers forward Daine Laurie to a two-year deal despite criminal proceedings into an alleged assault of his girlfriend.

Laurie appeared at Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday charged with assaulting his partner and mother of his two children at their Leumeah home last week.

He was released from the final year of his contract with the Tigers to take up the deal at Penrith.

"We have done a deal with Daine," confirmed Panthers chief executive Michael Leary.

"We have spoken with the Tigers and everything is fine (for a release).

"It's a court case now and we cannot discuss that.

"We think he is a great acquisition for the club."

The Tigers meanwhile have been active in the player market signing former Panther Junior Moors and Wigan utility Mark Flanagan for next year.

Englishman Flanagan can play halfback, five-eighth and lock and will fill the utility role vacated by John Morris who is off to Cronulla.

"Mark is a raw talent. There is plenty of improvement in him and hopefully under Tim Sheens, we can bring that out," said Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell.

"He is a tough no-nonsense player with a strong work ethic."

The Tigers have an option to extend Flanagan's stay into 2011.

The 22-year-old Flanagan made his first grade for Wigan this year after joining the Warriors in 2007 from Bradford Bulls.

His father, Terry, represented Great Britain four times between 1983 and 1984.

Moors heads to the Tigers after an injury ravaged-season and the Tigers also have an option to extend his deal for a further year.

The 23-year-old forward played 24 first grade games for the Panthers but had his 2009 season ruined by a broken ankle in the club's first trial game of the year.

"Junior is looking forward to working under Tim Sheens and will push hard for a first grade front row position," said McDonnell.

I heard a whisper about this yesterday…effectively we gave up Daine so that we could sign Moors.

not surprised that he's been released TBH - given previous reports where the club wasn't exactly thrilled with his efforts to turn up to training it was always coming

Straight swap them, Moors for Laurie. Though Moors was probably much cheaper and understands the basic fundamentals of football.. but lacking the raw aggression of Daine.

Moors is about where BRONSON HARRISON was THREE YEARS AGO. If he puts his head down, he could be Bronson one day.

Wait a moment…didn't we relase Bronson? :unamused: Our recruitment is VERYpuzzling sometimes.

Good luck to him. He'd obviously pushed his luck too far at the Tigers and if the Panthers can manage to get the best out of him then all credit to them. Moors could be good value if he has a strong offseason and it sounds like Flanagan could well be our 14.

Unfortuante we couldn't keep him but you can only give someone so many chances. Hopefully he gets his act together for he and his familys sake.

Hmmm…..Gee Daine ......all the best with the Panthers.....

Change is for the best......

I would rather him sign for panthers than anyone else…Elliot struggles to improve anyone also. Good luck to him....but i think he will be playing with Windsor next year.

Good luck to him (except when the Panthers play Tigers)

Its a shame that he took a few wrong paths this year. Hopefully Junior Moors becomes a more than suitable replacement.

Why do we always have so many identical posts? Surely after 20 minutes or more people can see that it has already been posted…more than once

I wish him all the best and sincerely hope he can sort things out. His smirk outside court didn't impress me at all - but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and put that down to nerves.

Sadly for him, I can only see him being a fringe first grader at best - not for a lack of ability, but a lack of discipline.
