Can’t believe how much positivity there here for the is signing.

This absolutely reeks of our classic paying overs for an ageing bloke that can barely get on the park these days.

Big no from me.

In fairness to Madge and Hartigan when was the last player we have signed that has been overpaid ? They have been buying players at market value or under and once we lose Packer and Mbye I would not have a problem with them overpaying for a top line player to help attract others.

Nofo re-signing

Thank Lee for that

Joey Leilua was the last bad one really. Since then we haven't signed big name players but we've not paid silly money for anyone

didnt canberra pay a portion though. So over the length of his contract we didnt overpay?

he might be like Blair take the forwards out of that Melbourne system they look average

so You wouldn't liked to have signed Tohu Harris or Tino ...

Finucane would be brilliant. Not worried about onfield performance too much, he's the ultimate professional and he would bring plenty to the dressing room. What he could teach Stefano, Musgrove, Simpkins, Twal etc could prove invaluable.

Kind of agree but we were smart as we had Raiders paying some freight and also having the last year as OUR club option was a smart decision.. I was happy with this

Unfortunately I cannot support that decision from the club... I think Lee and supporters been vocal about keeping him did not help. I would of loved Coates over him but hey he turns up every now and then. :man-facepalming:

we needed a win. local junior coming off his best year yet coming off contract and all the talk of our inability to retain our elite talent. I think he's been terrible this year and nowhere near his best, but he earnt that contract. Hartigan doesn't pay overs so money isn't the issue, it's the fact that the contract is four years long.

Finucane is a very good player, but I think he’d end up looking average in our squad as it is right now. His professionalism and work ethic would be good for our young guys for sure, but I really just want us to find a barnstorming forward who can regularly offload and give us some second phase play! At the moment we have none!

I was watching big Nelson from the Storm last night, so many of the Storm’s points were as a result of him standing in tackles and offloading. 4 or 5 players were out of the defensive line trying to put him down and he was still able to pop the ball out with ease. Melbourne’s classy backs got all the credit for last night’s performance, but without Nelson creating that second phase play they’d probably only score half of the tries they ended up scoring - This is what we need!!!

Mikaele could be that guy for sure, he looked dangerous last week. He's a physical freak if he can give 100% on the field every week and fix his defence he could be a class prop. He's got strength footwork and a good offload.

Bookmark in three years time when he is not playing well and lost what speed he had, 4 years was too long a deal

Agree 100% ... He will have a good 4th year as he will be selling himself for another contract then..

The only ex rooster I'd ever want.

You mean Doggies?

Bega Rooster :+1:

Oh, ok. I have to admit the Bega Roosters don't come to mind when someone refers to a player who is an ex Rooster.

As much as I agree with the proposal regarding Storm players outside of that system, I do believe however that Finucane is a quality character and professional player that gives his all and competes on everything. These are the only type of players we should be signing from now on, and to say that they won't be any good in our squad is a defeatist attitude.
We have to start somewhere with some guys that we can build this type of "110% competitor" , "win at all cost 80 plus minute" type culture amongst our group. We simply do not have enough "winners" (for want of a better term) in our team. Not enough guys making that effort on effort on effort play that lifts a team and that will drive our young guys to reach their potential in NRL.

Question.
The article says has had talks with two nrl clubs and in addition the cowboys, tigers and bulldogs are interested.
Does that mean we are one of those two clubs or that there are two other clubs not named that are seriously tabling an offer.
Canberra wouldn’t surprise for one and the Dragons being the second. Both give an opportunity for him to link with his country boy roots.

Do we want to win games? After what the club has experienced when buying 30 year olds who are, missing a few games, unwanted at their lifetime club, and asking for a long term big dollar contract? After a decade of no finals we do we really want to keep doing the same thing with the hope that it will somehow produce a different result?

I've been pretty down on him this year, but last week he was very good, he ran with more purpose and wasn't as one dimensional as he has been.
His biggest issues are still his defence and his hands, but there were signs of improvement in his defence, I hope that continues this week.

Finucane and Nicko Hynes showing as both off contract 2021 though I think Hynes has since resigned. With the best spine in the comp salary cap pressure comes into play especially with a number of the forwards including Jessie Bromwich,Kafusi and B Smith off contract 2022.
Storm are in the enviable position of having a 5 man spine with 2 hookers just as good as each other.
So a decent play for Finucane is not out of the question and at 29 a 3 year contract should be looked at especially with Packers money being avaiable and Finucane is a far better prospect to us than Packer. Then there's the possibility of Mbye money becoming avaiable early.

We have to aim higher then Finucane and Hynes.
