Dan Ginnane won't call Robert Lui's name

I don't think that it is a coincidence that Triple M are lagging far behind 2GB on the rugby league football ratings and this Ginnane comes up with this stupid statement. The media is a sceptical business and this action from Triple M is all about publicity. If Ginnane really feels this way why doesn't he step down from calling the Cowboys' matches. Maybe then people would take him seriously.

Sick of this political correctness this pussy country has become,
Glad to give Ginnane a few round house kicks to the head and im female!!!!!!

Racism still exists in Australia.

This has got to take the prize for dumbest comment not for just this season but the history of this forum.

agree that racism does exist but dont get the point of that on this topic.. bird, inglis and lui are all abos afaik.

it's about what gnr said.. he wants attention but is too scared to pick on the big names.

alright so just listening to the call from triple m ginnane has called luis name at least twice in the first 10 and not as the half, the seven or anything else

Bird, Lui and Inglis are all pieces of excrement IMO. The NRL hierachy picks and chooses when it wants to flex it's muscles. For example, the Dane Tilse incident that got him sacked from Newcastle, IIRC the NRL made more of a fuss of his incident than Bird and Inglis, even though it involved no violence.
Maybe the NRL treads more carefully with players that are from a minority race (as happens in everyday life)? Discrimination works both ways.

This.

I'm hoping Ginnane has gotten over it - I like Ginnane, and the way he approaches commentary and his Show the Rush Hour, so to hear this is pretty disappointing.

Professionalism prevails finally on Triple M.

TRIPLE M caller Daniel Ginnane has backflipped on his promise to snub halfback Robert Lui in his call of Sunday's match between the Cowboys and Titans after the NRL complained to station management.

The broadcaster had vowed to not refer to Lui by name in protest to the NRL welcoming him back despite pleading guilty to assaulting his girlfriend during 2011 Mad Monday celebrations.

But that changed late yesterday after NRL officials spoke to Triple M management and the Cowboys phoned Ginnane to divulge sensitive details about the assault.

"The Cowboys reached out and called," Ginnane said last night. "They explained some confidential details of the Lui case. There were some details I weren't aware of. I knew it wasn't as clear and a cut-and-dried case.

"But in no way does this excuse Robert Lui. I don't take anything back. Everything I said I stand by. I will call his name in commentary, but I won't do it with any level of excitement."

It is understood the decision to call Lui's name was solely Ginnane's decision. Triple M content director Jamie Angel told The Daily Telegraph earlier this week he was backing his stance.

Last night, the NRL refused to directly answer if it had pressured the broadcaster, but it is understood it was angry about Ginnane's proposed ban.

"We raised the issue with Triple M and they told us the matter has been resolved," spokesman John Brady said.

that's funny the DT never finished off their story

So if Lui breaks the line in the dying moments with the Cowboys down by 2 he wouldn't show any excitement? Someone needs to put this irrelevant attention seeking sook in his place and bring to his attention just how much of a hypocrite he is.

Anyone have the guys email? seems as though no cares to bring this to his attention. If i have his email i don't mind doing it.

He's still a hypocrite

Some great and interesting posts. Like many I would never excuse Lui, no matter what the 'hidden circumstances' but he has been found guilty, he had been punished in law and by the NRL. From what I can remember he regretted his actions and apologised. No one has to like him but if we can never move on, or be given the chance to learn from our mistakes, without the media carping on for its own agenda, then what's the point of our criminal justice system.

i read it correctly the first time.
the colour of the skin for each of those guys is different (even if they are all aboriginal)
rednecks look at bird and think skip, look at lui and think black fella.
being Einstein, i know, ya pleb, you should know better than to question me.
think about it.

the difference between Bird, Inglis and Lui, is that Lui is a repeat offender. Not that i think it is any worse than Bird, but Lui has been arrested for touching her up twice now…

I should know better then questioning some moron on the net, your right. It's a battle I can't win.

Just so we are all clear on how stupid you really are:

Lui is targeted in the media for viciously beating his lady twice because he's " a darker black"
Inglis and bird are not targeted because they are a lighter black? Nothing to do with their individual cases but more the color of their skin?

By your logic (lol) billy slater could literally go on a drunk fueled bender, assaulting everyone he see and because he's pasty white he will get a pass?

Lol " know better then to question me"…clown.

the original suggestion is that racism is still rampant, that lui may infact be target more so by **the commentator in question** because of the colour of his skin. so yes, you are right in your suggestion that he is a 'darker black'. i wouldnt call bird black, inglis either for that matter, so for someone who dislikes blacks (not saying the commentator does) lui would be an easier target than the others mentioned.

a comment was made about the difference in the darkness of skin and you unfairly dismissed as being stupid:

**_"This has got to take the prize for dumbest comment not for just this season but the history of this forum"_**

yet other players have committed SIMILAR offences, yet the commentator in question hasn't refused to call their name.

dumb is dismissing the possibility.
