Darren Lockyer - Tedesco and Brooks Will Play Rep Footy Next Year

I'm really out of the loop here.

Since when do you need to have been a captain or have won a premiership to be an immortal?

Johns should be an immortal. Probably the best player to ever play the game.

I don't consider Inglis at that level. Lewis was unbelievable when he fired. I don't see JT at that level.

Without getting into the Johns debate, **prior to his admission, the Immortal Endorsement was reserved for achievements in the Australian Jumper.**
Johns was well done the list in this regard, and its obvious the benchmark has moved to include him. I just want to see some criteria moving forward.

Really? Cause I seem to remember Wally going alright in the maroon jumper

I'm not sure whether to bother, but Wally played 46 games for Australia for 39 Wins, 1/2 as Captain!

I'm not sure how many games Johns Captained his country for, but know not to bother looking!

haha i was just taking the piss, but if he didnt play origin ever i dont think hed be an immortal despite a lot of games for australia and a period as captain. 39 wins from 46 is probably around the % of cam smith but i dont think he or any of the big 3 deserve to be immortals.

Thurston is the only current day player who should lay claim to a future immortal title.

Lockyer is another player who deserves immortal status because he could turn a game and win pressure games with clutch plays.

Inglis, Smith, Slater are good players but no where near immortal status. Just because they play in successful teams that does not mean they are immortals.

Slater is made to look a lot better then he is because of the teams he plays for with Cronk as his halfback. If Slater played in a team with Pearce as halfback he would be a good player but not the freak that he is. That takes away immortal status in my opinion.

Smith is a great captain and leader but a myth as far as footballing ability goes. Yes he is a good player under pressure, but the last time I checked that doesn't give you immortal status. Give me Issac Luke over him every day of the week.

Inglis, the NRL love child. Yes he is big, yes he fast but that doesn't mean he is an immortal. Look at him now in a struggling Souths side, no where to be seen. The true immortals find ways to make the big plays and get their team out of a hole when the going gets tough. Players like Johns, Lockyer and Thurston were able to do that and that is why Inglis isn't in their league. He has always shone in successful sides but now when the going gets tough Inglis is being exposed for the myth he truly is. Good player but not an immortal.

I've heard some people say that Gallen should be considered as a possible future immortal. Please, the bloke is a significant step below Slater and Inglis let alone becoming a future immortal.

Agree 100% Tony. As for Gallen be considered as a future immortal, i have one thing to say,
HaHaHahahaha. Must be a joke.

Why try and fix something that's not broken. Tedesco Fullback!

They are always doing this type of thing, TM. When there are too many good players in the same position, during the same era, the rep selectors always try to include them all by playing one or two of them in a different position, or they put them on the bench (e.g. Cherry-Evans in Oz team). How many times have we seen fullbacks chosen on the wing in previous decades - it seems to be their favourite shift.

I'm with you though, Tedesco is an out and out fullback and he should stay there. If if was up to me I'd leave Teddy at the back and put Moylan at five eighth because that is his future, imo. He has a great mind for the game and is a classy ball player and God knows NSW could use a decent five eighth with these skills!

NSW coach Laurie Daley has described fullback Matt Moylan as “a very classy player.” Daley’s not wrong.

Moylan moved a small step closer to NSW Origin selection with a robust performance in Country’s 34-22 win over City on Sunday in Wagga Wagga.

The Penrith and City fullback yet again showed he can lift to another level with aplomb.

Barring injury, Josh Dugan is certain to be chosen in the Blues side for State of Origin I on May 27 at ANZ Stadium — but where remains a question.

When asked where Dugan would play, Daley said: “That will depend on the halves.”

Dugan on one wing and Moylan at fullback is a strong chance.

Moylan did though have some defensive issues, a problem the NSW camp noticed.

“Matt is a very classy player,” Daley told The Daily Telegraph from Wagga, where he watched the match.

“He has been around representative teams and players for the last year now. He certainly has a lot of skill.”

Moylan is a fine attacking player, and the NSW camp are aware they need to replace Jarryd Hayne with someone who can generate points.

Immortal Andrew Johns went as far to compare Moylan with Queensland and Kangaroos great Darren Lockyer.

“He reminds me so much of Darren Lockyer at a young age,” Johns said on Channel Nine.

“The stories you hear about how much he loves getting to training, he’s the first to training and last one to leave. I love hearing those stories.

“I am blown away with how much time he has got.”

f fit, Daley will name Josh Morris and Michael Jennings in the centres. If Morris fails to overcome an ankle injury, Dugan could make the switch to the centres, where he represented NSW last year.

Daley also gave special mention to City halfback Blake Austin, who scored three tries.

It is unlikely however Austin would be considered although no halfback is really demanding selection in the No.7 jumper.

Daley could look at playing two halfbacks — Trent Hodkinson and Mitchell Pearce.

“Both teams had their moments,” Daley said. “Both sets of players had their moments. It was a good game of footy in trying conditions. It was pretty warm in Wagga.

“There weren’t too many bad players from either side. Each player contributed to the game.”

Daley also praised the performance of Country back-rower Josh Jackson.

NSW has an abundance of back-rowers to choose from including Jackson, Paul Gallen, Trent Merrin, Greg Bird, Beau Scott, Boyd Cordner and Ryan Hoffman.

Parramatta’s Anthony Watmough is another but would need to lift his form to be considered.

Meanwhile Gallen on Sunday claimed his hip injury was responding to treatment and was now confident of being fit for the opening match against Queensland.

I also find there are a lot of similarities between Moylan and Lockyer.

They both play or played Rugby League - end of similarity.
Moylan would not be playing FB in any team of mine until he learns to defend. He makes Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses look like clones of Johnny Raper compared to him.

I worry a great deal about Daly - does he not see things or is he just not competent.
Moylan is a "classy player" - Teddy played better today than him … no mention.
Praised Jackson - Siro went unnoticed ????
God knows what team he will come up with this year!

Moylan has to be selected for origin ,when this happens the door will be opened for Teddy as it will quickly become evident that Moylan is a good footballer but not at this level. As of today hopefully it is realised that the old guard is changing and from next season there will be changes and the 2 listed above will be in line .
