Darren Nichols returns back to the Tigers

After a successful stint playing in France , Darren Nichols is back in the training for Balmain Ryde Eastwood .

A very good player with a fine kicking game who can cover 5/8 , halfback & hooker. He will cone in handy as BRET continues to improve as tithe rounds go by.

As he just arrived back in Sydney last Friday , might have his first game back against Western Suburbs next Sunday morning @ 10.30am ( ridiculous kick off time - don't they know people are playing golf then ) as the first game before the under 30s & 1st grade at Campbeltown

Yeah you are probably right about the FG call up , but Darren has good skills , and he will help our one of our State Cup teams make the semis this year , if not the GF.He' s been playing great footy in France and will add pressure on the halves & Pat to stay on their game .

But then again , I reckon Sean Meaney should be our 1st grade fullback over Moltzen , so what do I know

I'm surprised they can give him a game considering the depth that BRET seems to have at the moment, he must be a special player to gain such priority considering he's only just landed back on our sacred shores.
 
Always thought Darren would make the perfect n07 for us. Not fast, but great defender,good football brain,good leader and good kicker. He would have been a great foil for Benji and Farah, but Lui was the one picked and that was the end of Darren. Not sure if a few years in France would have done him any good but would love to see Sheens invest some time and energy into him, Iam sure he would not let anyone down. Lets face it everyone one else has had a crack at the job
 
Was always my thoughts on him , Supercoach ….he's just happy to be back playing with his beloved Tigers ....coming off the bench for Balmain is a good place to start.

Darren and Mitchell Pearce were rated pretty close ability wise a few years ago, makes you wonder how Darren would be travelling now if given the opportunities here at the Tigers similar to that Mitchell got at the chooks. Not saying that Mitchell didn't deserve those opportunities but we persisted with and gave plenty of opportunity to Lui who had a lot of problems both on and off the field. Why we do this to our local talent amazes me at times.

Best of luck to Darren I just hope he gets his chance.

In high school Mitchell pearce wasnt a standout player, Darren led holy cross to the semi finals of the arive alive cup…hes a good player, good step and good bloke...smokie for first grade in the years to come, maybe the utility we have been looking for?
 
Darren will never get a look in for FG under Sheens. But he should. I agree with the above posts regarding his ability. Some players can just do a certain job in any grade they play….they may not be outstanding, but they have the abilty to do exactly what they do in State Cup and thransfer it to FG, while others can shine in State Cup but struggle in NRL. I believe Darren looks like one of those players that would slot into NRL and play just as well and consistant as he does in State Cup.
 
ahhh, well if he's a consistent player who plays in a playmaking position then it's a given that sheens wont want him unfortunately.

Mitchell Pearce did play Aus Schoolboys, he was a stand out player.

As for Nicholls I always thought he was a good fit for our 7 jersey as long as we had Robbie and Benji, he seemed a good organiser and looked in control. By the same token Lui had a little more X factor than NIchols and I understand why they went that way.
Now he has come back, maybe he will get a chance to play the role I thought he would for us.
One thing he will have picked up in France, he will certainly have had is toughness tested, the game over there is similar to footy in the winfield cup days, regular blues and high shots are the norm.
 
Is anyone else drawing parallels from 2009\. Great side in the 20's. Nicholls halfback and Captain / Miller halfback and captain. Lui creative number 6 / Sirro creative number 6\. Sheens not giving the 7 a real go and favouring holding onto the six?

Yes Andy , that's what it was , but also Canberra aren't that happy with their current halfback , Sam Williams. With Injury prone Campese in the halves , this is the best opportunity for Darren to crack 1st grade

I guess that Darren saw that his opportunities at the Tigers were far more limited with Iofesa signing for Wests and there is a big question mark on the Raiders halves, sorry to see Darren leave before he had a Taste of the Tiger again but good luck in the Nations Capital.
 
The Mounties Side , where Darren has slotted right into the 5/8 role….with guess who ...Sam Williams.
It will be interesting to see how he will go

darren signed a Mounties contract , not a Raiders contract ,thats why we were able to secure IOSEFA.
Darren has along with williams have brought a lot of structure to the Mounties side since Iosefas departure.
Darren is going great so far at Mounties .
