Defence For Next Year - Why Will It Improve?

I think you better direct the question to our coach. Based on his efforts this year I think that he is most likely to coach spin rather than defence.

I reckon it will improve with all the players we bought this year, They are all strong and tough and most are forwards so if the players arn't putting in in defence we have other options..

I can only hope that the added size in our pack will be able to aim up against the bigger teams. As much as I've been impressed with Sue and Buchanan this year, having them start in the front row against the bigger sides like the Bulldogs and Rabbitohs and we're bound to get steamrolled.

Sironen's defence has been very average TBH since he's been in the backrow. Definitely something he will need to work on.

Tedesco deserves a big rap for his efforts the last few weeks. He has been amazing defending at the back on our goal line. Will give him great confidence leading in to next year and it's something we should build on.

Potter does not coach defense the defensive coach does that…..Which is/was Royce Simmons and he got sacked (Thank god) I think Payten,Blocker or Kidwell will be our defensive coaches next season...... The Sheens crew are slowly but surely going... E.g Simmons,Leeds,Georgallis,Humpty.

Sirro has never played in the Back-row before this season and most of the season he has played 5/8 he has only played 3-4 games in the back-row. But at 5/8 ( Which he has played most of the season) you don't really focus on defense. He will put some more weight on and try to improve his defense all Pre-season. He will be a wrecking ball next season Trust me.

sirro has been inconsistent with defense. at times he's been jumper grabbing- at times he's made some really good shots.

we have a lot of rookies from u20s comp have u seen th quality of Defence in those games ?? they come from games where u win 50-30 . U cant have that much inexperience in a side for 1st grade and look at the results this year . next year there should b a big improvement we wont bring as many rookies into the squad and rely on them as much . hopefully all the players will benefit from the experience .

the defence must improve, otherwise there is no chance in hell of being competitive.
**would rather the opposition be wary of wests tigers and know they will struggle to score points against us, rather than they will win, and wonder by how many.**.

Everybody bagging Sironens defence is kidding themselves. Please remember he is still young enough to play nyc and has not played alot of backrow as he was getting older.

He is just lacking confidence after 2 shoulder reconstructions.

Next year I would like to see him come of the bench and play backrow for us. We are expecting to much from our young guys to soon. Look how long it took Ben Murdoch Masilla to find his feet. After 50-60 games he is starting to show what he is capable of.

Exactly. Even through the terrible run of injuries, we should have seen an improvement in defense if nothing else, and we haven't. Potter has failed in that regard. He's the head coach, it's his responsibility.

I think it'll improve because serial arm grabbers like Ayshford and Marshall are no longer there. I can cop Sironen and Simona etc making defensive errors but not senior guys.

Firstly we need a defensive coach who knows what the job entails, he will need to teach tackling technique and tactics, defensive patterns in general and specific situations, defensive attitude to go with the technique, a very important job based on the players and adapted to the opposition.

We are getting rid of "Rolls" Royce Simmons.

Yes and someone on another thread mentioned that we are getting David Kidwell to replace him! If true, then our defence should improve out of sight!
