Getting their defensive structures right is the key focus for Wests Tigers heading into tomorrow night’s clash with the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park.
Head Coach Tim Sheens and Captain Robbie Farah said it was vital the team continues to build on their good defensive work which laid the platform for the big win over South Sydney last Friday night.
“Our defence is very important this week. Field position. There are a lot of things. You don’t get many bonuses when you are away. The crowd give you hell so you are going to lift yourself from within the team,’’ Sheens said.
“We have got to work really hard to stay tight. Talk well, and get ourselves through it defensively.
“There are going to be plenty of issues for us to overcome. We are still a little wounded. We are going okay. I am not going to offer any excuses. We will be ready to play.
“These next three weeks before the bye are very important for us.”
Farah said the side was ignoring where the Titans sat on the Telstra Premiership ladder with one win from five matches.
“We are just concentrating on getting our own job done. We know that if we can do that and do the things that we want to do, it will lead to a good performance,’’ Farah said.
“We were happy with our defence last week and to hold Souths to six points was a great job. Going into last week we were the best attacking team in the comp in terms of tries scored. I thought it was a great effort.”
Farah said his side must not give former team-mate and Titans captain Scott Prince a license to roam around and dictate play.
“Scotty will try and shoulder the load. He knows he needs a big game to pull his team out of what they are going through at the moment. Especially against his old club he is going to be up for a big game,’’ Farah said.
“It is our job not to allow him the space and time to do that. If we do, we know what he is capable of.
“It can play in our hands if we do handle him well and not let him control the game. If we don’t follow the defensive structures that we want to do, he is going to tear us apart.”
And as for that much publicised groin injury, Farah was quick to put an end to it.
“What injury. I’m fine,’’ he told reporters.
