Dene Halatau

My thoughts are with the last two posts, while it is sad, you know deep down its the right move, a great bloke and clubman, never in any trouble….he will be missed and it'll be hard seeing him in a dogs jumper

has the type of game that some people dismiss far to often.
been plenty of games over the years that he has provided good momentum for us but because it isn't like a ellis run people seem to give him zero credit.
in saying that he has always struggled in defense.
with the tigers improving in defense i felt dene was one who was being left behind in this regard.

did his best for the club and played a big part in our greatest ever year.
something i will always remember about him.
a luxury signing if you have the forwards that consistently lay a platform that he can then take advantage of.
a luxury we certainly could no longer afford.

To me Halatau and Reni Maitua are very similar players. Just Halatau comes without the headaches and drama, should be a good fit at the dogs who will have a dominant front row.

All the best Dene.

That sums it up nicely. Sorry to see him go, especially to the dogs, but hope it's a new start for Dene.

Big thanks to Deno, was an integral member of the 05 smokies and me and my mates loved a good KAPOW shout at the games after a solid hit-up

All the best

i think denes been unlucky.
he should have been an 80 minute player (dallas johnson like) but ended up being and impact player, without the impact.
the dogs will bring out the best in him i think.

Dene should take his game to the next level over at Belmore. This is a very good career move for him. I hope they dont use him as a utilty and they use him for one specific role. he will then blossom.

He didnt know if he was Arthur or Martha here at the WT.

He couldn't work on his game here because he didn't have a particular facet to concentrate on.

I was a fan of Dene's & i would'nt have objected to re-signing him.I think he will be missed.I can also see why we offloaded him.
Halatau would have been another player on 200 grand+ so now with Collis & Morris gone that freed up 600grand minimum. So it's probably the right move.I can see us making a big play for a rep player next season for 2011

Anyway thanx Dene for all the memories & good luck for the future 😢

Someone has to say it as it is…Halatau has been on $200k pa or so for some time now & cant command a run on spot because he hasnt delivered when given the opportunity. There are better players in every position, often costing considerably less $$$ than him
Just like Morris,Harrison & several others.
We cant afford these types if we want to keep building the club with fresh talent(like Moltzens /Luis etc).
Like Harrison,if he grasps his new opportunity at the Dogs & puts in 100% every week he can change this.
Its up to him

Couple of pics from the Dragons v Bulldogs trial last night (Dragons won 16-14 with a try on the buzzer).

I think this sums up his performance:

Dare I say, not much has changed.
