Des Hasler to the Dogs in 2013

Regardless of the money, it's a smart move. Jack Gibson understood that there's only so many creative and uplifting ways to say the same thing. Players begin to tune out. They get used to the same voice, the same body language, the same cliches, the same game plans, the same responses to success and adversity, the same emotions etc. They know what's coming before it's said. You could nominate Bennett as someone who defied that theory, but his style involves building a relationship with players, based on a paternal style of mentoring. There were always plenty of other coaches at the Broncos to focus on the catch, pass, tackle stuff

Haha…the cracks ... theyre a widening

Another statement from hasler alludes to him leaving for less $$$

Manly chairman Scott Penn says chief executive David Perry and the club's board will continue with their plan for the future, even after dual premiership-winning coach Des Hasler dropped a bombshell by confirming he will walk out on the club to join Canterbury after next season.
>
Penn says the board was unanimous in their wish to re-sign Hasler, despite allegations a board member viewed the man, praised by some as the greatest coach in the club's history, as "replaceable."
>
Hasler took the extraordinary step on Saturday of detailing his disagreement with the board as the reason for taking up a four-year deal with the Bulldogs from 2013

>
"Despite my discussions with the board for over 12 months regarding a new contract with the Manly club, we simply couldn't align our future thoughts," Hasler said in a press release issued from his personal email address.
>
Penn wouldn't comment on Hasler's feud with certain board members but was adamant there was no one at the club who didn't want Hasler to remain as coach.
>
Penn also backed Perry to continue in his role.
>
"Absolutely, he's here to do a job that's for sure and obviously he's had a pretty tough initiation but he's up for the challenge and we've got a big job to do," Penn told AAP.
>
"I can't comment for individuals, the board is a somewhat unusual board given its shareholder representation so (in the majority) it's not a voted on board and everyone's entitled to their opinion.
>
"But I think to be fair on retaining Des, everyone was on alignment in trying to retain him, there was no confusion in that sense, we were doing everything we could to retain him."
>
Former Manly media manager and club stalwart Peter Peters pointed the finger at the board and Perry in a radio interview on Saturday for "purporting" to be Hasler's friends.
>
"I told this guy, 'you might know your business but I know football and I know Des Hasler is irreplaceable at the Manly Sea Eagles,'" Peters, who was forced out of the club before the finals, told Triple M.
>
"He looked at me in the eye and he said, 'nobody is irreplaceable.'
>
"Some people in clubs don't like powerful people and Des is all powerful.
>
"Some people purporting to be his friends are not his friends and Des knew that, he's a smart man.
>
"He's told everyone that he wants to move on because he thinks there are problems in administration there."
>
Asked if he was referring to the board and CEO, Perry, Peters said: "Exactly."
>
Peters said Hasler's main gripe was the board's insistence last year he meet key performance indicators, despite the fact he's guided Manly to the finals for seven straight years.
>
Penn declined to comment on the KPI's, but said the main reason why Manly came late with an offer was because of the significant financial pressure the club was suffering.
>
Penn said they had no hesitation in retaining Hasler for 2012 and fellow former player Geoff Toovey was the frontrunner to take over the following season.
>
"We have a history of promoting from within and that's certainly our initial thinking," he said.
>
"We've got no choice but to move forward everyone's going to take some time to heal.
>
"Stability is going to be very important for us."

This David Perry fella comes across as a raving lunatic. My predictions for Manly next year…. Hasler to be sacked before the season opener and Manly to run 10th.

Honestly I never believed I'd see the day des would leave the sea eagles…..

Gotta be pretty crook there to leave the rubber streaked streets of Narrabeen, for the sunny flowery avenues of Lakemba/Belmore

Ha ha classic sign :roll

Blaming the board is just using them as a scapegoat.

They are broke and the bloke in the club with any money in a minority shareholder (Penn). Dogs obviously had a bigger offer on the table a lot earlier than Manly.

Leagues club trades at a loss, they have poor crowds and low sponsorship. The chickens are coming home to roost on the business model of playing at Brookvale and marketing yourselves as a team everyone hates.

If the club is broke, has poor crowds and has ordinary sponsorship, wouldn't you think that is the responsibility of the board Gary?

Yes of course.

I guess I am answering the Bob Fultons of this world who are blaming the board for inaction in resigning Hasler and claiming it to be an outcome of politics. It is pretty hard to put an offer on the table when you have no money.

Ah, I see where you're coming from now. I had read your OP a different way.

1\. I dont see a lot of players leaving and abandoning new head coach toovey, he appears to be very popular with the playing group through how the media and players have discussed relations and support with him

2\. I wonder how dez will liken to his new team i expect some of them to get along well with him but some to not be as favourable.
How will he relate to ennis.

3\. You have to feel for Dymock, i hope the bloke has a ripe punt next year and really proves his value…he will not be punted no matter how bad they go unless dez gets an early release

DEZ just won the club 1.3 million dollars i believe by delivering the premiership.
having dez as head coach almost guarentees them a top 4 position year in year out…
if i had to pay a coach a fair slap if he was likely to deliver my team a high percentage of winning the premiership then by god id do it

dez is on apparently 400k a year at the eagles......well he just payed off 3 years of his contract by guiding the eagles to the gf and winning it...lets not forget he won it a few years ago when it was about 550k for the premiership.

He is practically one of the leading income sources at the club.

i dont know if the board realise but they possibly lose noel cleal one of the greates recruiters in the game, they lose quite a lot of experienced staff aswell..

looks like by sacking zorba perry has lost a man who has delivered 1.85mil in winnings atleast...developed manly into the top 3 teams most consistent/represented around.

also perry has lost a wealth of experience in the coaching staff. doesnt look like he really won perry does it.

You see, this is the reality that the media refuse to acknowledge. They have no potential for growth. they're landlocked. Apart from the woeful crowds, the stupidity of their branding and the dysfunctionality of their board, they have next to no juniors and a ground that travellers reject.

This is why Peter Peters et al are so anti Central Coast Bears. Manly have identified that corridor as an opportunity for membership growth. Whether it's the Bears or someone else, the NRL can only ignore 500,000 fans for so long

Good luck to des hasler at Canterbury in 2013.
would be great to see the bulldogs hamper any chance of manly making the top 8.
