Lui and Moltzen are BOTH 5/8ths disguised in a 7 jersey..
Lazarus was the first true number 7 WT have used this year in the NRL Premiership….albeit playing on the wing and fullback..

Theres a big difference between a true number 7 in second grade and a true number 7 in first grade

There is a big difference between a true number 7 and what we do with our number 7's as well knuckles

Yeah a true number 7 at WT in 1st grade plays on the wing and fullback..

People judging Lazarus as a halfback in first grade is really peeving me off. It's only early on but if he continues to get stuffed around I really hope he goes to another club where he is used correctly and goes on to be one of the best halfbacks in the game. In your face type style.

Exactly, there was no need of Sheens to hid the kid on the wing, Lazo is a fair defender….Sheens should have played him in a traditional halfback role with a simple game plan to show his skills.....anyway, what is done is done, but Blake didn't deserve that treatment....and what, he gets dropped for Fitzy back on the wing, with a winger & another state Cup halfback on the bench.......One day, sooner than later, this young player will show everyone that he can steer a football team around the play, ala Scottie Prince style, and become a far better halfback that we have had since 2006, and I dearly hope it's not at another NRL Club :brick:

Alad what I am saying is that even with Moltzen we did not play a traditional half role.

Ignoring the shifting of Lazarus around the park at this time but we have always used our half as a ball runner who occasionally chimes into the backline as a link man on long open side moves etc.

We play more like a side with two 5/8's running off a half in the hooker position IMHO

Sorry Smeg ….. but young Lazarus isn't ready for first grade football yet. Not to say he will never make it but he sure aint there yet.

Maybe he isn't a true first grade number 7 …. yet

I am not saying he is knuckles. Don't mistake me on that.

It was worth a try considering our injuries but next season was always going to be the season for young Blake if all goes well in 2010 for him. A proper off season in the gym. This year Folkes deliberatley kept his frame lean so as not to jeopardise the integrity of his recon work. The ligaments in the joint need proper time to become supple and plyable before any extra muscle weigh of signifigance is added.

I do object to his useage when played but that is not my call to make.

As stated above I am talking about the way we play our halfback which is very diffeerent to alot of clubs

I usually lose a debate with you Smeg so I won't pursue it much further !!!!
Tim may have moved him around so he wasn't a sitting target for the opposition ….. he didn't endow me with much confidence so I think he was justified moving him out of harms way.
He must have shown something in the lower grades to justify being picked in the first place. I didn't agree with his selection with only a handful of lower grade games under his belt though ... so am relieved he's not on the team sheet this week.

I can't say I disagree with you. That may have been the reason why he was moved so much but I can't speak to that as I am not privvy to the coaches thoughts.

In the end it is possible Blakes style may not suit our clubs structure. Unfortunatley we suffered an injury to both our front line halves options and Taumata who is arguable our 3rd option was injured at the time and he was bought in quite underdone through injuries in past seasons.

Its not an easy call but I think if a player was to be bought from the lower grade there was only one game of direct comparisson where Blake played all over Waters this season.

If Sheens had the plan all week t play Fitzy in the halves than why pick Blake at all is my argument for last week

Do you think Tim seeks input from the players or coaching staff when selecting the team ? Or do you think he does it all off his own bat ? I have the feeling Robbie and Benji have a big input into team selections so that may cloud some of the decision making. Maybe some decisions aren't made until a day or two before match day or even closer.

If Sheens needed to move him around so much so stop opposing attacks finding him out in defence that would suggest he wasn't ready for the call up. Sheens needs to find someone he has at least has enough confidence in to stop the positional changes which I believe has been the biggest hinderence to this side for a couple of seasons now. It was different with Marshall, his early defensive problems were massively outshone by his attack but he is an exception to the rule.

Lazarus is too small and skinny, really needs to put some weight on. I think he is smaller than Brett Hodgson.

Moltzen is still the man, and we lost part of our season when we lost him.

Im still heart broken.

Is that your veiled way of saying Fitzy should be in the halves CT?

No, I think he is making excuses for Lazarus' poor performances in first grade.
