Do we miss 'em?

Beau Ryan - nope. Nofo and Simona/Koro are much better players with a longer future

Chris Heinington- Far from it. He's done little for the sharks this year. Sue and co are much better

Gibbs- as much as I like Gibbs we have much better younger stocks in the front row.

Fifita- definately would have loved to kept him. Yes we do miss him.

Agree 100% and who is to say that Fifita won't lose form. The nature of NRL today is that most FG players find it very difficult to maintain their form over a long period.

and fifita needed a change of scenery, when he left he wasnt playing great, despite having potential, I think he needed an environment where he had to prove himself again.
I suspect in a couple years he'll have to do it again to remain fresh, lots of players are like that.

The one of the 3 I was most disappointed at losing at the time was Gibbs. He really seemed to be maturing into a good forward. Of the others:
1\. Heighington seemed to be losing any impact in games. While he had been a great asset for the team in the past, those days looked like they were in the past.
2\. Ryan had a great season, helped with team morale, but didn't look like he had another gear in him. A young, fast winger could fairly easily replace him.
3\. Fifita seemed to have attitude problems, despite having good potential. Always a risk to have these sorts of players in your team. There is no guarantee we would have gotten his current form out of him.

I recall how much uproar there was when Ryan and Heighno were let go…pfft...We could well be asking the same question about benji this time next year..if we do I reckon we'd come up with the same responses

I like how everyone here was **so upset** when these guys left the club…

Less than 12 months later we're now like "pfft how much better are our current guys?"... Does this mean Sheens was ahead of the curve 9 months we were??

With the exeption of Fifita... (In which our outrage occured retroactively because he got picked for NSW 18 months after leaving the club.)

The uproar when Ryan left was largely due to the fact Humpty and the club ballsed up yet another contract deal. It was amateur hour yet again at the club.

There was no huge uproar when Heighno left, most acknowledged he was past his best and we needed to plan for the future.

Oh, and I don't miss John Morris either (but then nobody else mentioned him, so I guess it is unanimous).

I was upset we lost Fifita. I also felt we might miss the others however the younger players coming through have been better.

Ok, we've had our first few weeks with a functional backline and suddenly no one can see the value in a player who could hold his own as a fullback, centre or winger. This year we had Tedesco and Moltzen out in succession leaving us with Meaney at fullback. We've had injuries to Utai and Koirobete at the same time, leaving Potter experimenting with Tedesco and Reddy out of position on the Wing. We lost both our centres and our stand in halfback in the same game, which threw Nofo and Simona in at the deep end against Souths where we got monstered.

So no I didn't miss Beau Ryan when I was standing on the hill at Leichardt watching Tim Simona humiliate the Storm, but you have to admit there were one or two games this season when a passable first grade utility back just might have got a gurnsey. Who knows, we might even have won a couple more.

Yes it does. Sheens for all his faults had these youngsters in his sights for quite a while and made the tough calls to keep them. We owe him a lot more than he is credited for. And before the naysayers shoot me down, who of our young crop were poached over the last few years.

Gibbs - Bloody oath we miss him this year especially! How can you say we don't miss him when our front row stocks have been absolutely decimated this year. How many threads have been devoted to people begging for George Rose, Martin Kennedy, and other nuffies to be signed up asap? Bryce craps all over these guys.

Although he only makes the bench in a fully fit WT side these days, he would be handy to still have on the books.

Ryan - Again, we definetely miss him. If anybody is going to tell me that Meany or Reddy would have been their first choice pick with Ryan in the side, then they need their heads read. Although after the way he dumped the club, lost a lot of respect for the bloke.

Fifita - 'nough said.

Heighington - Don't miss him at all, and should have been flicked a season earlier.

Doesn't Flanno claim that part of the agreement for the Sharks to take Gibbs was in fact a ploy to snare Fifita?

Yes Byrce Gibbs will be good to our injury list thats were he has been since the start of the year and missed game last year i dont think we need him anymore we have young and gun props comming up we had to make a clean out and look for the future.

Id still rather Rhino Fifita and Gibbs then Blair. and we lost all 3 of those players to get that MR 500k.

Ryan was never that great we would not have beaten panthers and storm with him with those trys Tim scored.

Just because Beau goes off like a pork chop idiot on the footy show doesn't make him a great player. he lacks speed he is solid but thats all he is ever going to be

We didn't lose Gibbs because we brought Blair. Gibbs left (was pushed) for other reasons. I was disappointed to lose him but injury has hit him fairly hard too.

Heighington was let go and Beau walked when his contract was played with and Chris was let go. Their replacements have done a great job.

Fifita was a big loss in hindsight but I don't know whether he would have improved so quickly at our club. He had really flourished at the Sharks. Well done to him.
