Do we "need" to drop a game?

What a terrible idea.
They did this on the last season of survivor and things went downhill for them from there.

Momentum and confidence will take this tigers team a long way into the semis.

Playing all teams below you and teams that are out of the race for a spot in the finals, leading into the finals isn't ideal but I dont think they will be easy games. The tigers will need to step up and not take any games lightly.

With Rabbitohs and Bulldogs still mathamatically still a chance, as well as a possibility of a place in the top 4 I don't see how we can afford to drop a game.

Dropping a game now doesn't mean we have a less chance of losing a game in the future.

No we just need to win 6 more games to become The Premiers for the second timej in 7 years

We will need to win 7 more games unless some of the top teams lose in Week 1 of the Finals.

nope we don't need to lose anything, surely not getting out of 1st gear against the Panthers could count as a loss?

We have to lose. 12 wins in a row to a premiership is uheard of in the modern game. Even the Eels lost in the last round in 2009, and come on, were they not depending on momentum to take them to the grand final?

We'll lose one of these last 3 games, and it will slap the boys into action. We cruise through 3 weeks of footy to be challenged in the first round of the finals by a quality opponent and it sounds dangerous.

We might not NEED to lose, but if we did lose, I wouldn't be unhappy about it.

NO!

However, back in 2005, we were beaten by Penrith (I think) just before the semis and went on to win the comp. If we loose a game its not good, but it depends on how we bounce back in the following game(s).
Also, the boys know how important it is to finish as high as possible.

Go the Tiges!

The game against the panthers in 05 , the tigers were 18 nil up after 16 minutes
They switched off looking towards next game on upcoming Friday nite
I don't think we will the luxury of dropping games this time

I still think we threw that game
Once they knew we could not get the minor premiership we want horrid
Newcastle were playing either Saints or Parra and got beaten late in the game
Tim was trying to get us playing teams he was confident we had a shot against
And it worked so no issue here

That Penrith game cost me a heap. I had a multi with the tigers as a certainty and got a few long shots up … Still haven't forgotten that.

The thread isn't saying to throw a game, moreso just get outplayed. But what they did in Survivor was incredibly stupid.

I think this is need to lose is a bit stupid, you can only lose if your opponent plays better than you, and we can't control how well they play, unless we deliberately play poorly (and lose on purpose), which defeats the purpose of a loss to stop the boys getting complacent. I think going into the finals with 8 straight wins in 4th is better than going in with 7 from our last 8 in 5th or 6th place. I think the whole concept of needing a loss is a spin teams put on to stop the wheels falling off after having a winning streak end.

If memory serves me correctly, I think we actually lost the last 2 games, not just the one againt Penrith, but I could be wrong. In any case, we were in a far better position on the ladder back then than we are now, so we really can't afford to drop any game from here on.

We ran out to a big lead against Penrith, then got trounced. The Storm gave us a bit of a hiding the week prior. Had we won the one against Penrith we'd have finished 3rd. The Dragons beat the Knights that day, scored on the bell to seal it (they were up by 2, then with the late try won by 8). Had both games gone the other way we'd have finished 2nd I think. I doubt we threw either game though, for all the talk of not being too cocky, throwing a game would be the cockiest thing you could do.

If we won we wouldn't have played on the Friday night.

No team has ever won 12 in a row to win a priemership. Souths and Manly won 11 in 1955 and 1972 respectively. It's a tough ask for a team to "REMAIN UP" for 12 consecutive games so I would have no problem if were to lose one of our remaining 3 games before the finals.
