Just think about this: The nucleus of our team, which is really the grand final guys (Benji, Robbie, Heghno, Payten, Halatau, Gibbs) plus the guys who came into prominence in '06 (Lawrence, Collis, Tuiaki, Galloway) have now missed out on finals football four FOUR CONSECUTIVE SEASONS. Some players don't even last four years in their careers, but these guys have all been together for that period of time and have not been in the finals once during it.
I have to say it really makes me sad thinking about this. I remember being excited after '05 that we had so much to look forward to 'cause the side was still so young. Well, they ain't so young anymore and with the way players move around these days who knows how much longer all of them will be together? Never could I have dreamed of the possibility that '05 would be all we'd get from them as far as the finals go, but now I feel that it's very possible.
How many of them will still be on the team come 2013? Three, four maybe? These guys are in the primes of their careers and their primes are being wasted by missing the finals every year. And what makes it even more frustrating is that we all love cheering for these guys. We don't have any jerks like Ennis or Hodges or grubs like Slater on our team. I want these guys to succeed not just because they play for my team but because they all seem to be good blokes.
Can't think of anything else to add, except that somehow I feel more depressed about our missing out again today than I did on Saturday night.
