Dogs is a big game - Sirro

Just re-write the article as per below:

_Wests legend Trevor Cogger has labelled the Round 18 clash on 6 July against the Bulldogs at Allianz Stadium as “critical” after the 38-20 loss to the Knights.
After seven straight wins, Wests Tigers has now had back to back losses and risk falling out of the top eight unless they can turn their form around quickly.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs will come into the game on a high after five straight wins including a win over Melbourne Storm.
“We were really disappointing against the Knights. The gap between 8th and 9th has been narrowed so it’s a critical game (v Bulldogs) now,” Cogger said.
“The Bulldogs are a very good side. Any Des Hasler coached side is always going to be very competitive. They’re the form side of the competition without a doubt. Off the back of that win against the Storm and the bye, they’ll be ready to go so it’s going to be a huge game for both sides.

“They’re playing a bit of footy. Ben Barba’s been getting all the wraps, he’s particularly dangerous and Josh Morris out in the centres but their forward pack has really stepped up. They are running to the line together giving the ball carrier options on either side which makes them dangerous. They’re all in form and playing well."
Cogger also added that Wests Tigers will need to re-assess their defence if they’re to turn their form around.
“We’ve got to get our defence right first. We shut out Canberra and held Melbourne to one try and then it’s all gone topsy turvy. Obviously there are some mitigating circumstances around that with some personal reasons but defence is attitude so I’m sure Coach (Tim) Sheens will improve the attitude to defence this week and next week beginning on the training paddock.”
The team will need a big Wests Tigers crowd to help them get over the line. Tickets for the game are now on sale so buy yours now_

Needs more Balmain

Too much Westification now (Actually there can never be enough Westification )

Maybe we need to put comments from both Sirro and Cogger

It's not really Paul Sironen's fault he played for Balmain and not Wests Tigers. Is he not allowed to comment on the team he supports and which his son plays for?

This idea that former Balmain and Magpies players should never be heard from again is ridiculous…

Or as I explained to my wife - "He's the guy from the Blackout Shutters ad who gets tackled by the old duck"

They approach him mostly I'd suggest. Knowing a journo who used to do the sports desk, media outlets have a book of names they use when they need some quotes for a story. Some (e.g. Dean Jones, David Campese, Benny Elias) are just a guarantee to produce something controversial.

Its been very Balmain lately though, surely you see that….and always the same old blokes.

I'd like to see us stand on our own....Humpty referred to it at the start of last year when talking about the jerseys....he wants us to be our own and get away from Wests Balmain...so much for that eh steve???

I'd like them to start asking "Former Wests Tigers star Keving McGuinness/ Darren Senter" their opinions on matters re: WTs.

Lets move forward....why keep harking back?

But whose fault is that? Not the players, not the club. Blame the media if you want. Sironen is an Australian rep, a prominent media personality, one of the highest capped players for Balmain, and the father of one our NRL players. I'm happy for them to speak to Les Boyd or Trevor Cogger or whoever they want. They are well known people to the RL public and it is only natural the media wants to hear from them.

I'm also all for them talking to former Wests Tigers players but the club is only 12 years old. I'm sure in 10 years time we'll be hearing from former Wests TIgers great Robbie Farah etc but the club doesn't have that depth of history just yet.

Besides you can't expect these guys to whither away - part of the reason for the JV was that the component clubs would have a future as a JV club. Why should they be forced into silence or not given any honours because their careers predate 2000?

Wests Tigers respresents these guys too. They don't have Balmain or Western Suburbs to honour their achievements. Wests Tigers performs that role.

Have a look at the official website.
Its a club article.
I think after 10 years we were old enough…anyway no point arguing

Ink's right though, Yoss it has been very Balmainy of late and it's definitely a media thing. Especially that recent article about WT possibly signing Mitchell Pearce - it really annoyed me in saying that he could end up playing with the club where his father was a legend! As far as I know Wayne Peace played for Balmain, not Wests Tigers. I don't mind if Sirro, Elias or whoever want to make comments about the team/club. In fact, Tommy and I think even 'Ned' Kelly have made a few over the years. It's what the media is insinuating in their stories that is the problem. They have truly convinced themselves that WT is just the new Balmain and they are trying to convince everyone else that, as well, judging by this recent spate of articles.

Personally I think it's more to do with the fact that the people in question are from 1980s (so the right age), closely associated with one successful club, and for the most part highly involved in the media. SIronen pops up a lot on radio and TV. For whatever reason Wests lack people who fit that bill. A lot of their greats from that late 70s early 80s era went on to other clubs. Even Tommy played his only GF for another team. And from the mid 80s onwards they were not a strong team in that decade. It's the same reason we don't see many Balmain players from the 1990s getting interviewed!

I do think if say Trevor Cogger's son got a gig in the WT NRL team they'd make a similar link (i.e. former Wests great's son carries on family tradition).

As I said I think it is a product of the times - these guys are in their 40s and 50s. In a decades time we'll start to see people like Skandalis and then Farah and Marshall getting these questions.

I can never understand why Paul Langmack apart from one yr on the coaching staff has never had an accossiation with Wests Tigers. He was one Magpie through the 90's who people from the outside would see as an identity worth listening too

Its nice getting legends like Paul to comment on the game, we haven't always had him on speed dial but with Curtis now in 1st grade there is zero reason not to get Sirro Sr's thoughts every so often.

Ink, to be honest I just think its how many birds can they kill with one stone. They interviewed him and this story is about the next game, in a few days time you will hear Paul Sironen talking about his sons comeback game. Then in a couple of days before the game against you will get another story about how marshall and his son have been working hard at combinations.

The journo does one interview and gets three stories. Just like with Ellery here and the work the Balmain angle then the pom angle then sneak in sone other bloody angle to squeeze out enough juice as possible.
