Dogs is a big game - Sirro

What's the big deal about Paul Sironen making a comment anyway?
He's a former player/legend , on the board of one the joint venture clubs and his son is currently playing first grade.
If anyone can comment about the fans getting behind the team I don't see why he can't.
Being ex Balmain is irrelevant- he hasn't been trundled out like some other former players to bag the current team.
At the moment he has good reason to have more of an interest in the club than just about anyone on here - and anything he says is usually well meaning.

Bingo, we should be celebrating the bright new talent, regardless of who they are. If my kid made it to first grade I would be proud as punch also. (**Even if he played for the Bunnies**).

Not sure about that Chunky - everybody has their limits

It's not really Paul Sironen's fault he played for Balmain and not Wests Tigers. Is he not allowed to comment on the team he supports and which his son plays for?

This idea that former Balmain and Magpies players should never be heard from again is ridiculous…

Its been very Balmain lately though, surely you see that….and always the same old blokes.

I'd like to see us stand on our own....Humpty referred to it at the start of last year when talking about the jerseys....he wants us to be our own and get away from Wests Balmain...so much for that eh steve???

I'd like them to start asking "Former Wests Tigers star Keving McGuinness/ Darren Senter" their opinions on matters re: WTs.

Lets move forward....why keep harking back?

I'm no expert Chunky but it looks like Ink is showing dissatisfaction here at Humphreys not getting away from WESTS and Balmain like he said he was attempting to do

By making his stupid comment he did exactly what you imply he is against. As for the Balmainification, I see old Tommy Raudonikis never misses a chance to lay the slipper in to the joint venture. If you only focus on one side of the argument you can't have an open mind. If ink thinks this team is being over run by the Balmain side maybe he should open his eyes to both sides of the argument.

Yeah on second thoughts, I'd probably tell him he's adopted.

Yea resembles your original post. If your over the Balmainification, Wests still exist in reserve grade. Growing your own identity has nothing to do with making smart ar$e remarks about one side of the venture.

The balmainification comment was because thats the side we are constantly hearing things from
Please DONT tell me what my post is about, you may have youre own opinion on it…Im telling you you have it wrong.

As you can see from my post, it's quite easy to enflame opinion by polarising one side of the argument.

Thats why Ive said nothing on this for quite some time...I knew this place is full of precious members that would take offence....even though none was intended, I merely wanted to speak my mind.

So whilst it's not ok for me to blow up about your Balmainification remark, it's alright to take issue with my crowd at Cambo statement. Go figure. If you can't take it, don't post crap like that in the first place

Youre having a go at your teams supporters and your home ground - it was a stupid statement.
But you reckon two wrongs - in your opinion - make a right??
I can take it champ....keep it coming. You seem angry, dont get angry.

I mentioned the Magpies in my 2nd comment on the topic.
I havent heard a peep from Tommy for a long time….have you?

Ok ink, do you remember us trying to sign Willie Mason? Old Tommy wouldn't shut up about it for weeks, how we shouldn't touch him with a fifty foot pole. You know, the same Willie Mason who terrorised us on Monday, the same Willie Mason we signed Cashmere for, and we all know how woderful he played on Monday. As for two wrongs making a right, that was my intention in the first place. You made a stupid statement, I challenged that statement with an equally stupid statement but somehow your still right? I'm not angry ink, dumbfounded, but not angry.

WTs didnt go to Tommy for a statement

The fact many here still get their pantys in a twist when a comment like mine is made shows how far forward we havent come

stupid? Its not stupid, its fact. Open your eyes.
Dumbfounded?
try focusing on what my main point is….**I'd prefer WTs people talking about WT's.**...this is my point!!
Whats so wrong with that?

Or do you prefer to keep having a crack?

Wow how many times can you contradict yourself. It's fact when it suits you. You claim you want WT to focus on WT, but you polarise the argument by making inflammatory remarks about Balmain. How is that supposed to focus people's attention on the joint venture by being divisive?

A bit slow?
Already explained it all….I'm done

Hahaha, slow. Nice way to bow out. What's the matter? Run out of big words to put together into a sentence? Yes you did explain it all, however your point is still as clear as a mud puddle.

I get the opinion that we should focus on WT rather than Balmain and Magpies and agree to an extent.

However I think that it is more than reasonable for players of past eras to comment on the team, and think it is great they see the WT an extension of their previous club, I do, and so do my mates whether they be Wests or Tigers originally, I see WT and extension of both clubs.

There is alot of comments coming from the 80's tigers, but IMO it makes sense, Sirro and Junior having kids playing is natural for them to be media go to guys, and it is natural to refer to Junior (along with ex west players like Tommy) as club legends, and they IMO are exactly that, Benny and Roach are in media and are always high profile so they are always commenting on everything.

Tommy is a bit the same, he is a regular go to guy and whenever we lose a few, he is the go to man to say how soft we are, I reckon when we are going well he prob has positive stuff to say but the media dont want that from bring back the biff Tommy, they have pigeon holed him into the persona that sells papers. He was in the papers alot when we were signing Willie and on the 5 game losing streak

At this stage all the high profile West tigers are still playing, in 10 years time we will hear comments from Benji, Farah, Beau, Hodgo and alike.

Altho at times I hate the divide (the putting the boot into a crowd at cambelltown is a perfect example of rubbish I hate) but in the case I think it is good to hear past players supporting the club

Problem is finding a past Weststigers player with the credibility to comment.
Have a look at the list of rep players we have produced and there isn't really anybody you could go to that isn't still playing.
Oddly enough Keith Galloway and Chris Lawrence don't even get listed as having represented Australia on the Weststigers website.

ye i saw that, i dont think it's been updated since 2009

Not sure if everyone is aware of this, but the Balmain Tigers football offices are housed at Concord as well, of which Sirro is the General Manager. Going off the article, I'd suggest that Cuzzo (I assume he wrote the article) has just been a bit lazy and gone over to Sirro's desk knowing he would be happy to comment.

I'm sure some of the cynics on here could twist it otherwise, but I think Sirro commenting has everything to do with convenience and a little bit of laziness rather than ignoring Wests.

I have no problem with this particular article or any former Balmain or Wests players commenting at all. However, I do take issue when the writer of an article, about our team, insinuates that the former Balmain club and the current Wests Tigers club are one and the same! And this is something that has been happening a lot lately in news stories quoting some of the Balmain greats.

Same rubbish spewing out about the Balmain side pi$$es a lot of people off too. It works both ways, but some people don't pull their heads out of the sand long enough to see that!

A lot of people see WT as the successor club for BOTH Balmain and Wests. We can't claim the history and at the same time pretend the pre-2000 era didn't happen. Personally rather than see 180+ years of history come to an end I think WT has a role in providing a continuation of that.

Does it mean we live in the past? Of course not and over time we are forging a new identity as the Wests Tigers. But personally I think it's good that ex-Balmain players regard the WT as their club and I think it's good that Wests Magpies feel it is their club. I've seen Noel Kelly say some very nice things to that affect on a few occasions. Some may think it is divisive but I more see it as a natural progression.

Now all we really need to do is get some more old Magpies apart from Noel talking up the Wests history.
