St George Illawarra prop Trent Merrin has been released from the NSW Origin squad as Blues coach Ricky Stuart moves towards finalising his line-up for next Wednesday night's series decider in Brisbane.

Merrin will return to the Dragons to prepare for Monday night's match against Canberra, while a decision is expected to be made by Sunday on whether he is joined by teammate Beau Scott.

Scott, who played the first two matches of last year's Origin series, is on standby for injured Manly secondrower Glenn Stewart.

If Stewart succumbs to a knee injury, Scott is expected to start in the second-row, with the NSW bench to comprise Tony Williams, Luke Lewis, Ben Creagh and Anthony Watmough.

Looks like Gallen will shift back to prop again with Grant dropping onto the bench.

Expecting

8\. Gallen
9\. Farah
10\. Tamou
11\. Stewart/Scott
12\. Bird
13\. Lewis

14\. Grant
15\. Creagh
16\. Williams
17\. Watmough

Not a fan of this move, I don't think Merrin did anything wrong in games 1 or 2\. Although Sticky has rolled the dice in the past and it's worked so I guess it's worth a shot.

Creagh should have gone before Merrin. Creagh offers nothing. Ricky Stupid are you a banana bender.

What makes you think that?

Because it would be moronic for Sticky to go into a decider with 4 back rowers on the bench, meaning it would be likely for Gallen to shift back to prop.

Merrin has been a nonevent in G1 and G2\. So we have effectively been playing with no prop on the bench anyway.

If Stuart picks Watmough/Lewis/Trex and sadly Creagh on the bench, I can't see much of a disadvantage over Watmough/Lewis/Creagh/Merrin.

I just don't think dropping Merrin is an indication we are moving Gallen to prop to start.

Personally if it was up to me I would drop Creagh and let Merrin stay.

merrin has not been able to perform coz he hasn't been given enough game time, BUT whenever he was on he did make impact. a very goood player imo.

so ye, agree with you.. shoulda dropped creagh, not merrin
