which ever brand you do end up getting make sure it has alot of venting areas on it.
so the heat gets out of the machine and it runs well.
alot of devices like these run warm.
do not put it in an area where it will be confined, need to let heat get out of it.
some of these machines have vents on bottom of them so may have to raise them off the surface they sit on.

Panasonic tomcat. Their electronics are solid and reliable and consistently score well in reviews. Personally I'd stay away from Sony. They don't even manufacture their own gear anymore - it's all outsourced and made by other companies. They really have gone backward yet still charge a premium price which hurts them. Panasonic have a basic DVD recorder for around $500\. You can get a really nice one for about $700 at JB HiFi, it's rrp is around $1000\. It's a 250GB twin high def recorder, so you've got the option of recording 2 shows at once, in full high def. That would be my choice and I'll probably buy one myself in a couple of months.

Thanks WILLOW, definitely look in to that one..

Another +1 for Panasonic gear.

Panasonic by far and beyond produce the best home theatre equipment. If you are looking at a cheaper option, Samsung are good in that regard.

If you have an xbox 360 and a computer with windows media center, buy a TV card (if you don't have one) and you don't need a DVD recorder.

I got a Sony one a couple of years ago and it's really good. It has a large hard drive too.
