Dwyer's running line !

Last year we had the great situation of Gareth Ellis running that great angled run at the line from 15m odd out.

With his demise due to injury that seemed to have disappeared from the WT's armoury but the rise of Simon Dwyer seems to have resurrected it.

Dwyer, mostly known for his big hit on Wharea-Hargraves, seems to have added some offence to his game.

He has run the line with both pace and power from that distance out making it extremely hard for the defence to cope with him and subsequently has scored several tries.

This has resulted in his profile being raised as I noted on this mornings Sunday Footy show, when all the hosts had favourable things to say about him.

This great for him and the club who will benefit from his skill but will pay for it down the track in added costs and greater difficulty in retaining our good young players.

What a good problem to have !

And how many people were writing him off a month ago (Me included) Time to remove my size 12 from my big mouth again

Be interesting to see what happens when everyone is fit - will the starting back row include Hieghington, Ellis and Dwyer perhaps or will he revert back to the bench with Fulton starting

I think it'd be a very week-to-week decision.

ie if we need to start the game strong defensively I'd have Fulton start, if the plan is to go out and try and put points on early I'd start Dwyer

Dwyer running those lines on the right and Ellis on the left….DEADLY!

add to that later in the season, when Lawrence runs his lines or runs with pace around the outside backs, or Benji's cut out pass to flying Lote.

Or maybe Farah going short from the line to a charging Woods or Galloway.

Or maybe Farah kicking it in the corner for Lote.

Or maybe Benji doing his awkward grubber kicks for Utai to pounce on..

Fully fit, Tigers will be UNSTOPPABLE close to the line.

As for Dwyer, he needs to keep running hard and at that angle, he will break the line or break the tackle to offload for Mckinnon.

I thought it was a bit worrying a few weeks ago when Ellis played that he wasn't running the angles as he did so effectively in the latter half of 2010\. Instead he started to try and put a step in his run and also looked to offload which normally, he rarely does. A fantastic honest forward that doesn't need to do anything fancy except time his runs, pick the angle and tackle hard. Dwyer needs to take a leaf out of Ellis' book and do the same. However the difference I think is that Dwyer has more pace and and is still young enough that he can be a flyer out wide as well. Can't wait to see them all on the park, fully fit. The 1,6,7 and 9 are warming and when you get the likes of Lote, Lawrence (hopefully), Ellis, Dwyer and co hungry, game on boys.
