I hear DWZ will be announced tomorrow to take the focus off Nathan’s performance tonight.

How does that work?

Attempt at humour.

Yeo wishes Watene-Zelezniak well while Grant pulls pin on Panthers

Isaah Yeo insists there is no bad blood between the Panthers players and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak as the Kiwi flyer inches closer to finding a new club.

The Tigers remain favourites to secure the services of the New Zealand skipper, who was granted permission to speak to other clubs after requesting a release from Penrith last month.

Isaah Yeo, left, will be disappointed to see Dallin Watene-Zelezniak go from the Panthers when he strikes a deal elsewhere.

The Herald revealed any move to the Tigers would likely include a player swap in the days after Panthers granted him a release, with Russell Packer and Ben Matulino floated as the leading candidates to head west after falling out of favour at the Tigers.

While Tigers officials dismissed any suggestion that a deal has been done, coach Michael Maguire is understood to be insistent on bringing the Kiwis captain to the club.
Watene-Zelezniak has continued training at the foot of the mountains alongside his teammates but has not played since the round 10 loss to the Warriors and Yeo hasn't noticed a change in the 23-year-old's demeanour.

"I’m sure you’ve met Dal. He’s a happy sort of fella and if you walked in here you wouldn’t think there is anything going on outside football," Yeo told the Herald. "He is still rocking up every day, still training every day, obviously the club has come out and said him and his manager are shopping around but that’s up to him.

"That’s what he thinks is best for himself and his family. He’s still here at training and still bringing an upbeat attitude so it’s good to have him around."

Watene-Zelezniak continues to bring an upbeat attitude to training despite his imminent departure, says Yeo.

Yeo does not hold any hope that Watene-Zelezniak will change his mind and stay at the club but if he did, the players would welcome him back into the fold with open arms.

"I’ve been with him since I moved down when I was 17. I’ve been playing with him since then. That’s seven or eight years. I would love to see him stay but I think he has made his mind up there," Yeo said.

"He thinks a move will be better for himself and for his family and he obviously has two kids and a wife to look after now. We understand that. That’s the business. I would love to have him around, he’s a Kiwi captain and a great asset to any side. It would be nice to have him out there but that is what he has chosen to do."

Watene-Zelezniak's imminent departure comes as Tim Grant's contract was terminated out of the blue on Wednesday.

The former NSW forward made the call to cut the final six months of his current contract short after suffering a significant pectoral injury.

"While it’s obviously disappointing for my time with Panthers to end in these circumstances, I’m immensely proud of what I’ve achieved at the club,” Grant said. "I want to thank all the Panthers members and fans for their kindness and support over the years. I strongly believe in where this club is going and I don’t want to stand in the way of the next local junior getting his chance in the NRL."

ASAP - I like it Masterton!
It seems Packer is shaping up to be the subject of any swap. Funny though, because when the whole Ivan thing blew up, it seemed that Packer was one of the most outspoken against Ivan. I would have thought there was no love lost between them. Maybe Ivan feels guilty and throwing Packer a line is a way for him to feel better about how poorly he behaved.

With Grant retiring maybe we will offload 2 players to the Panthers - perhaps ET is a possibility as well. I think Madge would hang on to Mats until the end of this season at least.
Reynolds is the interesting one - my tip is England for him and for McQueen.

With the recent purchase of the young Brisbane hooker, Mbye is either being groomed for centre or as a 5/8 - if DWZ does come over to us.

I think Mitch Kenny will be promoted into their top 30. Which leaves one spot with DWZ leaving. They seem to be short up front at the moment. Wondering if they are after a hooker?

@Jimmy Madge actually dropped him to the bench before the south Sydney game actually. Then picked up a groin injury which ruled him out according to NRL.com

@Madge Very interesting. Those are some high standards Maguire is setting if he's unafraid to drop the man he appointed captain. It makes me wonder exactly what Mbye's best position is?
