**Monday Bunker: Panthers and Tigers in player switch**

*The Daily Telegraph*
June 3, 2019 1:06pm

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak’s Panthers career is over, with the New Zealand Test star bound for a rival Sydney NRL club.

The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield revealed on the Monday Bunker that Watene-Zelezniak was set to sign for Wests Tigers in the next couple of days.

“I’m told he will be at the Wests Tigers this week and a deal could be as close as 48 hours away,” Rothfield said.

“He wants to go there, Michael Maguire wants him, Ivan Cleary wants him to go there — doesn’t want him on the (Penrith) books.

“What they’ve got to do now is work on a player swap or a transfer.”

New Zealand Test forwards Russell Packer, Ben Matulino and Elijah Taylor have fallen down the pecking order at the Tigers and could be part of a swap, Rothfield added.

“Whether Penrith want any of those three, I’m not too sure,” he said.

“Whether they’re interested in anyone else on the Wests Tigers roster ... that conversation is taking place. I believe the two coaches, as much as the recruitment guys, are talking this over.

“But the New Zealand Test captain last year, unwanted at Penrith, will play for the Wests Tigers.”

While Watene-Zelezniak wants out of Penrith, his arrival at Leichhardt Oval might not solve all his problems given captain Moses Mbye owns the No.1 jersey.

“He’s been very vocal for a while now about his intention to play fullback ... the interesting thing is, if he goes to the Tigers he’s going to have to give up fullback and play in the centres,” The Daily Telegraph’s Fatima Kdouh said.

"Ivan Wants him to go there"- WOW ivan, thinks that giving us DWZ will make us fall

Yes! We will see how legit Ivan is with his so called love for the likes of Packer particularly - if we cannot manage to swap him or Taylor at least for Dallin. If a swap doesn’t happen it’s just more proof not to trust anything Mr Cleary happens to dribble....Especially from a players point of view.

Im sure Roth field just added that in for our benefit

Assuming rumours are near true Panthers are releasing DWZ to Tigers, MWZ ESL, Jack Hetherington to Dragons. Tigers releasing Packer, Matulino, ET to the Panthers.

The real question is...

Who's going to run the watch business
now with Dal in Sydney & Mal going UK!?

Can't see all three going there. One of the three, yes. I would attempt to do cartwheels and handstands if all three did go.

I hope they get DWZs contract registered with the NRL if he comes over. Greenberg let the Broncos off with their new hooker not being registered but we won’t be as lucky.

Wouldn’t be ideal if all three went to Penrith this year but I would think long term it would be a very good outcome.

@swag_tiger Would need to be named tomorrow

I recall some teams have had new signings on the extended bench on Tuesday and the player is announced on Wednesday. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Moreover, if there's truth to us shifting Packer to Penrith when he's reported to be on good coin and playing reserve grade for us, in return for a Kiwi international in his prime who is on similar money and only downside is that he's in a form slump I know which I take. I'll take the guy in a slump over the bloke who has hit his ceiling and still not delivering.

Yes absolutely! His form slump may have more to do with his environment than anything else. Fisher-Harris, RCG, Whare, Maloney - all good players totally out of form and all at the same club.

It was only last year that DWZ was playing great for the Kiwis and in line for Golden Boot. And it was only a short time ago when we had Malakai here that everyone was wishing we had his brother instead! Well now it looks like we will! - lots of happiness for me 😁

jack hetherington would be a good pickup, can we put him into the deal too? madge do your magic

Fisher-Harris is going well - about the only one up there who is, but still.

They think they have us beat, but we have a hand full of aces ready to play

Some of our players are more like jokers or 2 of spades than aces, but we need a card trick or two to move them on

Fox Sports reporting the move may have ramifications for Reynolds

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/unwanted-panthers-player-dallin-watenezelezniak-set-to-sign-with-wests-tigers-in-potential-player-swap-deal/news-story/694fc85a2d8bfe9fa19e131970b05f6f

Read told NRL Tonight that: “It’s a really interesting dilemma. Dallin potentially plays in his prefered positon of fullback.

“That would be the move for Moses Mbye to move to five-eighth. Then you’ve got ramifications for Benji Marshall and Josh Reynolds.

“The rumours about Josh Reynolds have been around for longer than just the past week.

“There were rumours in the pre-season, I think if they do sign Dallin I think it’s got ramifications for Josh Reynolds.”

Only the last couple of games. Don't think he was going too great before then, imo.
