Wests Tigers 2025 season preview

Jarome Luai will walk into Concord fresh off the back of his fourth premiership win in a row at Penrith.

The former Panthers playmaker has been at the opposite end of the spectrum from the Tigers throughout his NRL career and it is hoped his winning mentality will rub off on an inexperienced outfit.

The Samoan captain will accompany rising star Lachlan Galvin in the halves with the duo looking good on paper.

And when you factor in that Jahream Bula will be out the back and Api Koroisau will be dishing out service from dummy-half, suddenly things look more promising than they have been for a long time at the Tigers.

The centre pairing have dodgy knees. Depending on preseason effort, Faataape should be in the frame for a starting jersey.
I dont like Hunt starting at this stage. Use him as impact in short bursts.

I agree in regards to Hunt as he is not a starter imho but an impact player to be used in one or two 10-15 min bursts

My take also however I'd have Toa ahead of Faatape. If Bird is a forward then I think Toa is our best centre, though I don't think real highly of him either.

Id be happy to see Hunt start.

If we can get him to 30/35 mins a game, he can do a 20/15 split depending on the bench makeup. Twal, Pole, Sione, Seyfarth, all possible to play bigger stints in the middle to cover 5/10 mins extra if needs be.

The main reason would be a role of not losing the collision in the first 20 of a game. If we can match it up front with most to start most games, we'll give ourselves a chance to get into games a little better. I think that's a role Hunt can play.

Though, I'm not sold and think that the impact-style use of him does currently work and would be a low-risk way of bringing him into the squad.

I guess, at the moment, I'm just exploring different ways we might be able to use our incomings.

Surely Skelton has to be on the wing in place of Staines ?

Skelton will be on a wing. IMO this team, playing at maximum potential with zero injuries can finish 8-10th. The gap between the top 17 and the rest of the squad is just massive though. Inevitable injuries would make 10th-12 an ok season.

That may work as long as he works hard in defence.
On current form, that looks unlikely.

I think turuva will be first choice centre with Olam. And Skelton and Lualii will be the first choice wingers . Purely because they’re both really good in yardage .
That has to be the logic on this team. You have Faatape , Staines, AD( he honestly should bulk up and spend the offseason learning how to tackle , and move into the backrow . He has no future in the backs anymore )Toa , Makasini after June , Bird at a pinch , Feledy , all providing depth .
It was identified by the management that we were weak in yardage , which is why we shifted the ball early and often this last season . For moderate success . With Lualiii and Skelton I think we go a long way to helping in these areas . If we lose in others ie. speed and Luke under the high ball .
