What about the extra $200,000 we could splash on him if we convince Ballin to retire.

On JAC Instagram the other day he had a video of training he showed Matt Ballin on the exercise bike..

Doesn't work that way. Ballin's payments count towards the cap. We could seek an exemption for a portion but not all however that would be at the disgretion of injury and NRL

So if he decides in the off season , knee wont cut it, and is retiring next year, why would that count towards our 2017 cap?

Rumour that the club is shopping Siro around but can't find any takers even with the club paying $200,000 of his money next year.

Why don't we pull a parramatta ( watmouth) and retire ballin due to his chronic knee injury 5 mins for the year at 200k now that's good money for a 32-33 yr old
Didn't Taylor sign this bloke

Im very reluctant to not pay overs for this guy. I like him both as a player and a person, he seems a great guy to have at the club. But his fitness isnt outstanding, resulting in some lazy missed tackles, he isnt big and dominant, and other forwards have to take some of his load with tough hit ups (although this is offset a little with Nofo's involvement getting us forward).

Hope we keep him but for the right price.

It wouldn't. Not if we went down the Watmough route. They somehow managed to do it halfway through the season to have his salary retrospectively excluded. I'm sure we could do it before the season starts.

ET's not seeking overs.

He made 61 tackles on the weekend. We just need teamwork around him to finish some tackles off, he can't do them all one-on-one. We were extremely lazy against the Panthers.

I'd think Robbie would announce his plans in the next week or so so he could get a farewell at LO. Either on the field, or walking around the ground in a suit.

As I understand it, we might have trouble considering it was a pre-existing in jury.

As if we'd get that sort of dispensation. We get dicked on all those loopholes that other clubs expose. Wouldn't be surprised if the NRL told us to take a flying leap.

I can't believe anyone would rather see ET leave that stay, or for that matter not care a great deal whether or not he sticks around. He's one of the few that go as hard as he can for as long as he can.

The whole reason Parra were able to exclude Watmough's salary from their cap was that it was an injury which occurred prior to the season starting.

Yep. In this case, it's not a matter of if the injury was pre-season, but pre-contract. Same applied to Watmough.

Alas, as Manly believed, Watmough’s knee was hurting and so they saved themselves the burden of an injured player on their salary cap. The Eels claim, though, that Watmough suffered fresh injury to it over the summer and therefore it was not pre-existing.

So it’s off for assessment.

If Watmough’s injury is approved the Eels will pay him out and claim it under career-ending insurance. The moment the injury is claimed, and therefore excluded from the salary cap, every NRL club will search for players not far off retirement.

That's how I understand it anyways. I'm no expert.
