ELLIS AND FLANAGAN ENJOY HERITAGE ROUND LAUNCH
5/05/2010 4:28:40 PM
Wests Tigers forwards Gareth Ellis and Mark Flanagan joined some of the legends of the game at the Sydney Cricket Ground today when Rugby League’s past and present stars came together to launch the Men of League ‘Heritage Round’.
An initiative of Rugby League’s One Community, the Men of League ‘Heritage Round’ celebrates the rich history and traditions of Rugby League and, this year, will be played across Round 10 of the Telstra Premiership.
Ellis, Flanagan and South Sydney forward Ben Lowe enjoyed listening to tales of yesteryear through the likes of legends Noel Kelly, John Raper, Ron Coote to Ben Elias, Terry Lamb and Mario Fenech.
Wests Tigers tackle South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Round 10 Men of League Heritage Round at the SCG.
“I am really looking forward to the game and the chance to play on such a historic ground as the SCG for the first time,’’ Flanagan said.
“There should be a big crowd here for the game.”
This will be the third match between the two clubs at the SCG as part of the NRL Heritage Round.
Wests Tigers recorded a 30-10 victory in 2009 before South Sydney snuck home in a thriller last year on the back of a miracle field goal by Nathan Merritt in front of a crowd of 29\. 970.
