Enjoying SFS....much better than the Concrete Jungle

I'm loving the SFS!

Leave work at 5 or 6, head to a pub in surry hills with mates, then to the game, then to paddington afterwards.
SOOOOOOO much better than ANZzzzzzzzzz. Thats a 20minute trip into town, then a 45 minute trip to the stadium (plus the walk to the stadium), then an hour trip back to the city, then a 20minute trip home.
ewwww!

Im with you Kul im a westy but enjoy going to the SFS.Me & my mates or missus make a night of it.Pre drinks at a pub in surry & go watch a band at the houpeton or the Gaelic club after the game.Get last train home with a skinfull under the belt & spew up when i get home.Happy days :righton:

And besides 35 000 at ANZ looks ordinery.Much better atmosphere at SFS :sign:

IMO Telstra was a cavernous concrete hole with persons for security and often traffic was a nightmare getting out of the paid parking there as well. In short I hated the place.

Travel time is a little longer for me to the SFS but I dont live in Sydney anyway so an extra 15 mins is no drama.
I love the atmosphere and the seating at the SFS and havent had a problem there (apart from two meathead Roosters supporters) early in the year, which I must say security took car of very swiftly and appropriately.

I cant drink because I have to drive so the price of grog doesnt worry me.

I park in the school so it costs me $15.00 the same as TS. I try to get there early to avoid traffic on the way in, have dinner somewhere in Fox studios which beats stadium food by a country mile and then wait around a while after the game as security dont start throwing you out like Telstra, then stroll back to the car by which time the traffic is all but gone.

Place is a deadset joke!! Last friday night i was kicked out of the bay allocated to me with club issued tickets(Bay 38). Was forced to sit in the worst seats in house on the corner in Bay 40 by security. They told us we couldn't sit where we were allocated by WestsTigers at a WestsTigers HOME match to keep the Parramatta Eels supporters happy. :unamused:

We were in Bay 32 which was absolutley packed with fans from both sides.

We had the other two flags provided by WT and were not asked to move once

You looked regal, Who were your slaves fanning either side of you with their palm leave/flags?

Couldnt see your flags, what did they say?

Didn't need any fanning. Was windy enough Ink

In fact the guys didn't even have to wave the flags. Put them in the air and nature did the rest.

Yeah the club had all 4 made. They own them and they went back to the club after the game

I am not sure whether they are just for the SFS or all home games.

Really well made though and look good on the telly.

Those flags were pretty decent.

How'd you and the club get in contact regarding them?

The Parra bay packed with flags and banners looked good, something the Tigers havent had for a while.

Im thinking of making a big flag in the offseason but not sure if theyre allowed in the areas we sit at home games - SFS we sit in Bay 12 which is behind the opposition bench, Leichhardt and Campbelltown we're in the grandstand but at LO I always sit on the hill.

Club contacted members to see if they were interested mate.

They will be used again at the Dogs game I assume so ring Justin if you want to wave them

Siiiick one thanks Smeg. Doubt they'd be allowed in our area though. At the Manly game a few guys in front of us were told to put their flags down by security.

One thing the SFS really neesds to work on though is the food & beer situation. Even at the Roosters game, our away game, with a crowd of 15,000(?) you still had to wait 20-30mins. Lucky I ate at home before the Parra game.

The club give you tickets to be able to sit on the other side of the field for the flags. Our ST is on the tunnel side normally

yes Ink, Paddo

Relaxed atmosphere, great restaurants, quirky bars and chilled people
all within a quick stroll through leafy backstreets just after a game.
You can turn a great arvo/evening at the football into something very special

as opposed to the sterile atmosphere of Homebush beyond which lies DFO and the Rhodes Shopping Centre :righton:
I mean when I finish at games at ANZzzz i think "sweet, lets go and buy some stuff from IKEA!"

Or you could go to your leagues club and the players presso….but hey, when youve quirky bars what more could you want?

Other than a schooner and kebab?

When was the last time the club did a post match presentation? Seems like they only happen after Leichhardt and Campbelltown games and that's if it's not a Monday night.

For the first year or two at ANZ they did functions in the bar behind aisle 126 (?) … is there a similar facility at the SFS?

Plus one thing I liked about ANZ was in that same function area, members could go in before the game and the club would provide features such as interviews with injured players and other staff members like Warren McDonnell. I thought this was a great benefit of being a member - providing something special that other fans dont get, hence creating a want to sign up. Nowadays, all you get for being a member is a seat at each home game and a few bumper stickers that fade after 2 weeks.

Mate I went to a couple of those pre match functions last year and to be frank I felt embarassed for the players for the lack of support from Members attending the function. Not only that but when three players are getting interviewed and you have 10-15 ppl lining the fence watching the Toyota Cup match its not exactly a confidence boost for them! Do you really want players losing focus by having to do promo's before a big match?

As for the post match functions our boys are in pain after putting their bodies on the line game after game…They should be straight into recovery preparing for the next match! These boys are human and have young families as well who they need to spend time with! You can't honestly expect them to show up to post match functions 12 nights a year after playing - 6 games is enough!

The players who did do the pre match interviews were those who were injured, not the ones about to play a match in an hour. I went to plenty of them and the ones I went to had a decent number of members attending. What I'm getting jack of from the club is that members get no extra treatment than other fans. As members, we should be given extra benefits from the club. All we get is an email that is just a re-cap of what we read on the website three days ago. At least this was something that created incentive to join.

Basically they need to do WTV type interviews but in real life.

Why not have Warren McDonnell announce a new signing to members before a match and then have time for Q&A. I remember at a pre match function in … 2007 I think it was, McDonnell was talking about junior talent the club had and mentioned this kid named Peni Tagive that they've got big hopes for. If we can get things like this going then I reckon the fans would become more interested in the junior ranks and get more involved with the club.

Basically in summary, the SFS is a good deal that brings in the $$$ but if they also provide a supreme service for members then they'll also increase their funds.

The SFS was purpose built for the sport of Rugby League…Did you see the crowd figure for Friday's match 34,000+ in no way would the club be able to maximise profit by holding such a clash at CSS or LO. The Club would have had to turn away over 14 000 fans from our great game not to mention the $'s...

Times have changed Rugby League is a business if you want the Club to survive the next 10 years without another forced merger or relocation suck it up let the Club make good business decisions that will benefit the Club financially in the long term.

As for member benefits were you not at the Members Day last Sunday ... What a perfect environment for all members big or small to get up close and chat with our team... There were interviews galore and that being avaliable to MEMBERS ONLY is a greta benefit if you ask me.

I maintain from what I saw of last years pre match functions the support was well under par! I doubt the pre match function is a deciding factor when one signs up for a membership. Passion, express entry, renewing the same seat every year is what does it for most. And the members event gets better every year!

Lastly, if heading to the SFS/SCG for 6 games a year means our clubs financial position remains strong I am satisfied with that! Remember we are in a better position than the Roosters who get paid zip to play there!

I went to the member's BBQ but didnt get asked for my membership card when I walked in. I am a member, but anyone couldve gotten in.

The fact that we only get these things once a year IMO isnt enough. I too signed up for a ST because I wanted a guaranteed seat at each home match, yes it's cheaper, yes we avoid the queues, but for me that's being a Season Ticket Holder, not a member.

I maintain the stance that more games should be played at LO and CS but they need to grow with the times. Campbelltown has the greatest potential out of the two. Both stands should be made bigger to accommodate more seating, not just corporate boxes. Half the eastern side is taken up by stairwells and lifts going up to the corporate seats. I know the club gets a healthy amount of income from these but I imagine they can also can grab extra dollars by giving fans the choice to sit on a seat on the side rather than a hill at the end. Newcastle's stadium has the same feel as Campbelltown .. hills at each end, a crummy old western stand that seats a few thousand, but they have a state of the art monstrosity of a stand on the eastern side that can accommodate a crowd for a big match. IMO Campbelltown needs the same thing, but it's all easier said than done.
