Esan Marstars could be off to Cronulla

The Sharks have a lot of pensioner forwards close to retirement so there will be plenty of opportunities, on the other hand our pack is a lot younger so the opportunities will be limited. You have to remember there are a max a four backrower jobs going in the top 17\. For a lot of young players they want a clear easy passage to the top grade

I'm not overly convinced on Marsters yet. He does have an excellent try scoring record thus far, especially as a forward. He has scored more tries than addo carr did in the nyc, and as a backrower compared to winger that's very good. He certainly has a bit of footwork close to the line, can run a decent angle, and seems to be developing a bit of an offload/short passing game.

However i think he's also been carried in what's been a very strong pack for most of his career. The likes of Felise, Tatola, Paseka, McCormack, Sirro, Stone have repeatedly carried the team forwards. For me, Marsters very rarely does the hard yards working out from our line, or even makes that many hit ups in general. He's fairly anonymous on the field until we get down the other end of the field when suddenly comes alive.

His work rate isn't there but his end product is. If he can improve his work rate and get involved more when we're on the back foot it would show a lot more about him, his determination and character.

There's a lot of exaggeration in that snippet too. I'm sure he's hardly the most sought after player in the country yet to play NRL. There are lots of good young players that will have 5-6 clubs chasing them, if not more. He's also not that big and the Tigers have previously worried about his lack of size hurting his long term potential.

Still as an attacking back rower he's worth keeping at a reasonable cost. Certainly wouldn't be paying overs for him yet though.

What do you think the order of priority should be with Marsters, Giles, Cassell and Stone? Any other 2nd rowers you think we should be looking at locking in?

I'm not totally sure. I do rate Stone but fear for his longevity due to his size and history of repeated concussions so early in his career. Has great work ethic and heart and defensive technique.

Giles has been very impressive. Charges forwards, made some breaks, got some tries, shown desperation in defence. Everything you look for in a back rower.

Cassell i just think is too small still, and also has problems with concussions. I think after a few more years playing nsw cup he might eventually get a shot at first grade somewhere. We definitely couldn't have Lovett and Cassell in the same side.

Marsters has the highlight reel plays but not a lot else.

With Sirro jnr jnr, and MCK already signed up too i'd possibly go: Giles > Marsters > Stone > Cassell. Stone would easily be top if he could put on another 10kgs though. Giles has also played fewer games than the others so it's a little harder to judge him.

Just another reason to hate the Shire grubs. You can never have enough reasons.

The reason I don't like them is Rothfield'

We're like the gift that just keeps giving, an Under 20s player here, another there, all the clubs just pilfer those we bring to notice…....

Understand the frustration but., how many potential super stars have we lost that ever did anything at another club ..and how many of our current potential super stars are doing any good with us? looking at the other teams strategies they take a punt on these super stars but always have experienced players for guidance and cover.why have we done this ? Simple .. No $ so we could only invest in potential not reality and spin it that wAy to the supporter and media. What will do now? What I tho k we are doing . Keep selected super stars and get some experience to support them

Has he signed with someone else? I think not.

Recently we have signed some promising players. No reason to think that we would not re-sign this boy. If not, to bad.

NRL 360 just reported he is being chased by 5 different clubs

I'd be very concerned he won't stay

This kid could be our Taumalolo of the future , big wraps I know , but I like what I've seen in the limited game time I've seen

James or Jason…?

We will make an reasonable offer and he stays he is happy here... but hopefully the days of paying overs for potential are long over.....if another Club wants to good luck to the Kid

We did that with Liolevave...who hasn't fired a shot in anger since...

Doesn't quite have the size of Taumalolo. He is more akin to Liolevave in size and how he is used i.e. on the edges targeting small men. I can't see Martsers ever dominating up the middle like Taumalolo does.

Im a big fan of EM but I do think there is a legitimate question mark over whether his size will be sufficient to have the effect in the NRL that he has in NYC.

Good player has a big future. Could be damaging however, we like plodders in the forward pack its the WT way small undersized forwards. Strength and power is not something we like.

Its one of those things isn't it Geo , how these youngsters react once the potential and size is squared out and the hard work needs to kick in to just even match it with the NRL players , yet alone hit expectations let alone exceed them

Try telling Liam Fulton that size is an issue.

I will be disappointed if we let this one slip through our fingers. These are the players we should be looking to resign a year before their contract finishes. Hole runner and try-scorer that can defend.

Has best footwork at the line of any forwards in lower grades, maybe even FG, struggles with defensive space on edges, but is getting better. Played in middle for junior kiwis and was ineffective in attack, is an excellent edge attacker with average defense, definitely the pick of the younger backrowers in terms of offense, plenty better than him in d, should be kept.
