Expect a little venom when Farah, Ennis clash
WILL SWANTON - SMH

ROBBIE FARAH'S rivalry with Michael Ennis is even more ferocious than you might think. Take it as read that the best two hookers in NSW enter tomorrow night's City-Country clash with burning points to prove. Farah was livid at being sacked for Ennis for the third Origin game last year; Ennis was mortified to miss a place on the Four Nations tour despite steering the Bulldogs to within one match of the NRL grand final after Farah's Wests Tigers failed to reach the play-offs.

There is mutual respect between the two rakes, and also animosity.

When the Herald approached Farah for an interview this week, he replied: ''No worries, mate. Just no questions about Origin or Ennis.''

But for Farah, this week is all about Origin. And Ennis.

''I've always said if you're worrying about who you're up against and trying to outplay him, you get away from what you really want to achieve in a game like this,'' Farah said. ''I've been around a while now and I've learned I just need to go out and play my own game, stick to the structures the coach wants and get a job done for my team. It's not just about my performance. Go ask any hooker or halfback out there, the way we play depends on the platform laid by our forwards and the people around us … If the team goes well collectively, I'm sure my performance will be good.''

Farah is not human if he does not want to smash Ennis tomorrow night. He was made one of the fall guys for NSW losing the first two Origin games last year and his pride is still dented. Ennis was instrumental in the Blues' victory in game three and when his tough-as-teak style helped the Bulldogs deep into the finals, a place in the touring Australian squad seemed assured. Farah's club coach, Tim Sheens, was also the national coach and when the Bulldogs joined the dots, rightly or wrongly, they came up with one word: favouritism.

That Farah now has two Test appearances to his credit would make Ennis apoplectic. A battle royale is coming. ''I would have loved the chance in game three to redeem myself for that second game performance,'' Farah said. ''I didn't get it but I'm hungry now to get back in there.''

The real Farah did not stand up in Origin last year. Errors, poor options - he was unrecognisable as the club skipper piloting his NRL side with precision most weeks. But any outside criticism is a feather duster compared to the beating he gives himself.

''The captaincy at the Tigers the last couple of years has taught me a lot,'' he said. ''I feel a lot more experienced now in these big games … But I'm still looking for that perfect performance every time I go out.''

Farah was speaking before his City team left for Port Macquarie. Ennis had already headed north. He was not approached for an interview but here's another given. His reply would have been: ''No worries, mate. Just no questions about Origin or Farah … ''

I hope Robbie outplays the fraud. But I have got the feeling that even if he has a man of the match performance it will not be enough.

Daley & co are infactuated with the grub.

**Daley & co are infactuated with the grub.**

Thats why Farah won't play unless Ennis is injured. Daley has an unreserved hatred for us.

Ennis is a passenger in all aspects of the game (excepting talking smack.) If Kimmorley doesn't play for whatever reason, Ennis will get found out. I would have loved to have seen Ennis play the first game last year when Wallace and Campese had shockers and the forwards got beaten all night. Ennis wouldn't have had a halfback to make his one dimensional game look good and he would have got smashed.

He's one dimensional, he's a grub and he's absolutely disgraceful in defence and as I tell every Bulldogs supporter if he is really that good why is it that he's at his fourth club and teams aren't kicking the door down to get the mercenaries signature?

He makes Darren Senter look like Cameron Smith.

Darren Senter was built for Origin

He was very popular with opposition fans too eh? Just like Ennis.

I didn't mind Senter myself, he just didn't set the world on fire. He was a better performer in our dark fledgling years…

id like to see farah give ennis the watts treatment in the first scrum

I wouldn't wait for the first scrum…I reckon Farah should bait the wanker and wait for him to bite... He's just as prone to biting as those who react to him.

Here's what i dont get about the whole ennis wank fest.

There are plenty of average hookers eligable for nsw, why did they (the media) pick this guy out as the one (and only) challenger with farah for the nsw number 9?
If i remember correctly, ennis's name was first brought up as an origin contender late in the 2008 season just prior to a tigers vs broncos clash. an article in the telegraph explained how ennis considered himself a contender for buderus's sky blue number 9, that the selectors should consider him for the spot, and not just farah. (who until that point was widely if not universally considered the logical and obvious choice going forward).

i remember laughing at that article , thinking , yeah good one mate, talk yourself up, good luck to you.

flash forward to season 2009 - and by this time the telegraph (mostly dean ritchie)and fox sports (laurie daley) had decided ennis was 'built for origin" , the rest of the media followed suit.
If not for ennis's bog average stats ,(except for defense, a perceived strength of his in the media - which isTERRIBLE) i might be able to understand , but no other word describes his ability in my opinion, hes not a bad player, he is even effective in his role ( ball passer) but that doesnt make him any better an option than any other average hooker going around today.
which just keeps briniging me back to this confounding question…......
why have the media chosen ennis??????

So seeing as though this constitues a player rivalry, I wonder if Sandow and Thurston are jostling for the QLD 7 jersey? Pretty much the same gulf in talent.

Spot 'freakin' on.

Ennis is nothing more than a ball passer. He doesn't run the ball, he has a garbage kicking game and his defense is rubbish, most missed tackles for a foward the last 2 years running.

It was an article in RLW. I remember it. He was whinging & whining about not being mentioned as a contender for the hooking spot for nsw.I was thinking what an idiot. His theme song should be "What about me"

Now everyone in todays paper is drooling over him saying he should be the hooker, even though he has done nothing what so ever. It makes me sick.

Ennis is barely in the top 8 hookers in the league for mine.

Woeful defender, stagnates the Dogs attack and is basically carried by a class foward pack at the Dogs and Kimmorley's leadership and organisation.

Well the more you read the more it seems Ennis will get the nod.

Farah needs a blinder tonight. Hopefully with all the Tigers around him, he will be able to create some combinations.

It is sad to think that even though we have 5 Tigers playing tonight, there is a fairly good chance none of them get selected in the Origin side.

If thats what "built for Origin" means, the Maroons will win the next 10 series.

Ennis will probably get the gig. Farah had a shot, and couldn't put his ego away, tried to do everything, and failed. He's going to need to wait for Ennis to slip up before he gets another shot I think.

He had to. His halves went missing and the forwards got smashed. Ennis would have been exposed for the fraud he is if he played game 1.
