Falou to new Western Sdney side..

Correct me if I'm wrong but there do not seem to be many AFL players of Polynesian decent? On the other hand NRL rosters are full of Kiwis, Samoans & Tongans etc etc. If this signing along with K Hunts helps the AFL tap into that market I believe it could be a very wise move. I've always thought the NRL does not play up the Polynesian connection enough, it is their biggest advantage over the AFL. In my opinion we should have a round similar to the AFL's Indigenous round which celebrates their contribution to the game.

On the signing itself I can't blame Folau for taking the money. If the NRL cannot bring more money into the game they will continue to lose players, whether it be to the AFL, ARU, European rugby or English Super League.

AFL players are on average…what? a little over 220,000 a year? I'm sure plenty will be spitting chips about this league player getting 1 million.....

You'd think a few of these wouldn't be all that impressed....

It just reflects how pathetic our administrators are, given the fact the AFL can afford to offer him so much and we could only offer half… which is considered HUGE in league circles!

...

That may have something to do with the fact that afl clubs have tens of thousands of members shelling out lots of money each and every year. Where's your brilliant idea on how we can compete???

Their memberships include voting rights and I might be wrong, but I believe they are much cheaper than ours.

Mate, I'm not paid six figures to sort these things out but I have heard many ideas from many league commentators. The fact the average wage of players has gone backwards should be evidence enough that the administration is not performing!

But of the top of my head…

1\. News Ltd should have left the game a long time ago
2\. Our TV rights should never been sold for such a low sum
3\. NYC should never have replaced a reserve grade
4\. 25 players is NOT enough for a team to compete. Every season injuries plays a MASSIVE role in a teams success and this SHOULDN'T be the case
5\. The current administration seems to have no direction forward! AFL has set plans to expand the game and grow. The NRL... sit on their hands and think that they'll never loose their supporter base in what is a terrible display of arrogance
6\. The salary cap should have large concessions for loyalty. Regardless of where the player played at while younger. Once a player has spent 3yrs at a club, every year there after sees 10% of their wage exempt from the Salary Cap. This could also be exponential to eventually allow a player to be exempt from the cap completely. This will also allow clubs to either save money on long serving players or pay them more to ward of competing clubs.

But hey... this administration has been diabolical and stunted the growth of this game... you ask for answers... they are everywhere but where it matters champ.

Surprise surprise surprise…. The writing was on the wall ages ago for this.

In fact I remember starting a thread about this topic quite a while ago when he came out with the stupid calls that he hoped the gayfl would be succesful in western sydney whilst he was at a school rugby league coaching clinic.
**The bloke's a moron**, so good riddance.

 Typical Queenslander…..

CYA...Izzy....best of luck in the AFL....

Why do these guys say "I didn't do it for the money"? **Who are they trying to kid?**

The AFL

Imagine him signing for the AFL with the AFL saying "he'll be an influence in the Polynesian community" and then he comes out straight afterwards saying "I'm only doing this for the money", would be hilarious if it happened though

I think its hilarious.

The broncos and QLD lose a top shelf player, and the AFL pay a mill for a complete unknown.

Its a win/win for me.

Who is the next QLDer (coughs) to go…..Inglis???Teo????

I am hoping that the people of western Sydney snub this new AFL team and help to make it a complete failure. There's no way you'll see me at one of their games.

This is what I wrote on the blog in the Telegraph:

Lol this is not going to convert fans to AFL. If anything these signings are a deterrent. Rugby League is my number 1 sport but I also watch other sports as well, the AFL poaching players from the sport I'm most passionate about is turning me further and further away from AFL itself. If the AFL is true to its word in that all codes can co-exist, then they'd be better off not stealing players from other codes and developing their own. All this is doing is creating resentment and friction towards the AFL.

I don't care about any player switching code (I might if it was one from our side) because it just makes room for another talented player to play the greatest game of all, Rugby League.

I love the polls in the SMH. Yesterday they asked if Folau was right to take the money. About 3/4 said yes. Today they are asking whether he is worth the money. About 3/4 say no.

Pretty much sums it up for me. AFL are wasting their money. I can't see people queuing up to watch him play…

gAyFL can have him. I don't rate him as a player and I don't rate him as a man. Sellout.

For starters the guy grew up in Minto and played footy at Westsfields Sports yet he thinks he is a Cane Toad.
Couldn't leave the Storm quick enough for more money…
Couldn't leave the Broncos quick enough for more money...

A week ago he was playing Origin footy. This time next year he will be in Blacktown playing AFL.
Talk about purgatory.
