Farah and Marshall refused testimonial game by NRL

In paper this morning both Robbie and Benji have been refused a testimonial game by the NRL .
This is what you get when you have spineless people in your club not willing to fight for what is right! Ok Barry time to STEP up let’s see if you have the right stuff ! these two players deserve this honour.

@Snake What a stupid concept, but if it was good enough for Smith and Thurston then 2 300 gamers should probably have the chance as well. The NRL will argue that Thurston and Smith have had more impact on the game though.

@cochise Whether this is a stupid concept or not again the NRL have proven that there is one rule for one and another for the rest .. but rest assured the board will be in a foetal position, but Ms Go would have had a plenty to say on the matter !

@innsaneink I haven't seen the article but I'd guess that the NRL will argue the difference in the players "standing" in the game. Which is a joke, two 300 gamers should be given that opportunity.

@Cultured_Bogan Which is what I said, I'm just pointing out the likely NRL argument, which I do not agree with!

A simple solution for this is for the NRL to produce its well thought through and detailed criteria. A checklist as it were. Do Robbie and benji meet this criteria? But there will be no criteria because the NRL make this crap up as they go along. Just like Laurie Daley was refused permission to coach at WestsTigers but was allowed to coach all stars game.
Didn’t Greenberg talk about fairness? He is a complete goose. YOURE OUT OF YOUR DEPTH TODD!!

That is a joke, if they allowed Thurston to bend the rules then the same should be applied here. Especially with what they have been paid in recent seasons.

@Tiger_Steve There is a criteria and Robbie and Benji fail it because they didn't play their careers at one club, apparently you can only bend the rules for Thurston.

Don’t know how Greenberg sleeps at night. How can he justify breaking the rule for one and not another?

@cochise yeah I'm not arguing with you mate, reinforcing your point. He's done as much as the others have, not sure of the resistance to the idea, especially when the game marketed him as the face and promoted his brand of footy for years.

Sutton never won a golden boot? They didn't put Souths on nearly every Sunday afternoon game for everyone to watch him spin some magic.

They can argue as much as they like, but I have absolutely no doubt that Benji has had more positive impact on the game than the other pair combined, and then some. Even after allowing for the kicking tee, headgear giving and uplifting of the indigenous communities from JT.

The other guy has great ability, but first and foremost, is a grub.

@formerguest 100% agree!

I actually find the idea of testimonial games for highly paid athletes repugnant, players earning millions of dollars should not have fund raisers held on their behalf. Given Robbie's and Benji's salary the last few years I actually view it as a better fit for them as they could probably use the money compared to the other 2.

@hobbo1 I'll happily give him a send off.

He would actually probably meet the NRL criteria, even though he is a proven cheat!

Yep, as money making exercise, can't cop it (unless for say a debilitating injury), but if primarily as a fan experience, with with an up close and personal feel, I say go for it, even if they want to try and penalise the club. Good luck with trying to justify that NRL.
